Well, not really (first post here), but talk me into/out of the TRD pro and into an SR5 made to look like a TRD pro or vice versa. After riding in a friend's 4" procomp lifted SR5 with a few mods to make it look like a pro from the outside I was totally hooked on this truck. Now I'm in the process of deciding to mod out an SR5 or go with the TRD pro and be done with it (maybe different tires than stock i.e. 295s). Would love this group's opinion...thanks for all the great info so far.

I think what most say, if you are happy with the suspension that comes with the TRD Pro, then get the PRO. If you are wanting to do something else, then get the SR5 and do what you want. Otherwise, a lot of what you'll want to add comes standard on the Pro. But then again you may have to wait to get in what you want.

Depends on price. About $5000 difference would be the cut off for me.

I wanted to get an Inferno Pro, but sadly they are no longer offered. I tried to build an SR5 Inferno and to get as close as possible for Pro equivalent Tundra. According to my build, it would be substantially more expensive to do that than just getting a Pro. Tundra Pro really is a good bargain, IMO.

yeah, lots of variables, the biggest being are you willing to wait for a Pro and limited color choices. The Pro suspension is great straight from the factory, but for the money saved on a SR5 model, you can build a very capable truck exactly how you want it. A Pro is leveled, so the front is 2" higher than a standard Tundra. If you want more lift than that, you would be better off getting the SR5; however, there are several people on here that have Pros and still add aftermarket lifts (then sell the Pro suspension for a pretty penny as there is a demand for it). Either way, you can't go wrong because ultimately, you're still driving a Tundra.

This is what I keep justifying is that the Pro is a better bargain in the long run.

If your not going to do major mods and can find or wait for one then get a pro.
If you want to look different I mean build to your liking and be close to a PRO, and willing to spend more $$$$ then get an SR5
Toyota factory build specific models to cater to each type of buyers needs and WANTS. It's a matter of how much $$$$$ your willing to spend

I use to have a SR5 and I loaded it up with leather, aftermarket stereo, Supercharger, tires & wheels, etc, etc, and etc. I never really enjoyed it because it didnt have all the little ammenitites that came with the Platinum or Limited at the time. Make sure you look at every option and I like the shifter in the center not on the column.

Now that I have the Platinum....It is the BEST vehicle Ive ever owned! I took my wife's Escalade in today and it has a list a mile long of things to be repaired and its a 16'. Oh...how I wish that Toyota would change their design of the Seqouia a little more than the little change they just made! I can not stand GM products (The Escalade is the Sexiest SUV but they are a piece of crap!).

    Suspension ~ $2000
    Wheels and Tires $2500
    Katzskin Leather to Mock ~$1500
    Color Match Bumpers ~$600

~$7000k to match a pro with both looks and performance. You could easily get a SR5 CM w/ Upgrade for $40k vs. $47k for a pro. If you love the pro stuff, get a pro.

IMO you can get a SR5 setup with Kings, Upgraded UCA, aftermarket wheels and better tires and the cosmetic matches to the Pro for $7k, which I think is a much better truck performance-wise. The biggest downside is you loose the resale.

Looks like you want to upgrade the tires on the pro so figure another 1k or so for that.

It's a bit difficult to get the 4" of lift on a Pro like your buddies SR5. 4" is the cutoff between cutting the cross member or not cutting it. Personally, I wouldn't cut it, especially for 4". IMO, a good, adjustable, rebuildable, coilover and a leaf pack are the best options for 3-3.5" of lift. You gain another inch with larger tires. Swapping out all the parts on an SR5 to make it look similar to a pro can get expensive like chphilo said. But, done a little at a time it can be relatively painless. Just my .02. Best of luck your decision.

Yeah, but you got to keep in mind that if you do start changing stuff, you can sell your Pro suspension and your pro wheels for about $2500-3000 easy. If you're going to change out the grille and bumpers to color match and install leather, you might as well get a Pro.

Me not so mucho good at mods :( so that's why I got the PRO. Slapped some tires on that bad boy and at least I can somewhat keep up with the big boys on this site.

My mods = tires and a StormTrooper bobble head :D

All you need to decide is if the TRD Pro bedstamp is worth an extra $10,000 or so to you. The rest you can easily add.

I agree with Cruzin Eddie, I too was looking at getting a Pro. But I already knew I was going to customize my Tundra and already had a 13' SR5 with custom work done. To me the Platinum had all the comfort And trim level I was looking for, so for me I choose the platinum over Pro.
Bottom line is at the end of the day, are you happy with what route you've chosen and how much you paid for it?

if you are planning on getting new wheels and better suspension. Get a SR5.

Better to rip apart a SR5 than a TRD pro..lol

    Just lights for now
I went Pro and did a bunch of upgrade afterwards. Happy with my Mods and the truck.
    List of Mod.
    1. Method Rims
    2. G2 35's
    3. Amp Step
    4. Spyder - Front and Rear
    5. Light Bar
    6. Happy, happy, happy...

Yes, it did set me back a few $ but who cares. Sold the stock rims and tires for $1000K. Still have my head & tail light pretty sure can sell them a few bucks but don't need to just in case I decide to go back when I'm bored with the spyder. Don't over think it man. Just go with what you feel like. You only live once. Most of us on here mod(s) our truck. That's the fun part.

Get the Pro if you are ok with not touching the truck mod wise.
If you like tinkering with your truck, get the SR5 blank canvas and either save money or invest the difference in better components than the Pro.

Don't put ProComp stuff on it. There are 1000 threads about diffenent suspension brands/options, but Toytech seems to be the highest recommended brand here.

I am in the same boat and I think I am going to go with the Pro. In my area an SR5 that is equipped how I want is about $40k then I would want to swap the grill and level it out, add an exhaust, dechrome and I would be into the same amount if not more. I would also have to get all of those mods past my wife. The pro also comes with leather and some interior upgrades that would add more cost if I were to do it myself.

I think our calculation is somewhat off. I could not get an SR5 for $40. If you lack the mechanical know-how to install the suspension yourself, I would say that's gonna cost you $3000+ for the Pro suspension (I have not been able to find any pro suspension for $2000 even without installation. I am talking about new parts). Same goes with wheels and tires (and alignment).

How long are u going to keep it? I've found when selling modified vehicles u......1. Only get a small % of all the dough invested, and 2. The % of people willing to buy a modified vehicle shrinks dramatically.

There's the front side of the actual purchase, but don't lose sight of the backside as well.

For sure adding the Pro parts new to it makes no sense at all. Way cheaper to buy a pro if you want all factory. I was listing comparable aftermarket options.

Man, you guys are awesome, thanks for all the info. I think for me, I will get a PRO, change tires, drive for a while and if I ever get the bug to mod it make the realization that it's only money and I can always make more. :)

You're looking at almost double that to get color matched bumpers. I spent almost $700 on the rears alone

Did you replace with CM OEM parts? You could get them wrapped or powder coated for $150/corner I would think.
