What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

You’ll be happy with the Smittybilt! I wouldn’t call it good but it is a deal. I’m just picking up the single compressor, twin is massive.

 

But do you test the new parts?

 

I have not, but plan on doing so as time permits. All parts are OEM Denso/Hitachi so they should be within ranges. The actual Volt/Ohm Meter is tested on various batteries to confirm accuracy. I do have a second back up Meter, but have not used it.

I did Ohms test my Toy OEM Blower Motor Resistor and both (old and new) were exact Spec.

Double blind confirmations are awesome.

 

That's interesting...the carrier bearing I took out of my 02 4x4 was sealed. I believe we have the same TRD models, mine even came stock with 265 70 16 tires.

 

I can’t remember my old original tire size, but they were the larger ones on 16”.

This is what my VIN Spec’d.

 

Your truck came with 265/70/16

All the Off Road TRDs have that size (if 16" wheels)

I had a '70 and '74 Superbeetle. Fine as a teenager's first car way back when, but if one lives in a northern state the piss-poor heat and defrost get old really quick. Had to carry an ice-scraper for the INSIDE of the windshield...

This is true, I remember freezing in my brothers '72. Living in California it isn't too big of a concern though, I definitely wouldn't recommend one as a daily but as a weekend car they're fun.

Ye, but it was scored in a package deal of a lifetime. Two tool boxes (one rolling and the other a top side) full of auto specialty type stuff for $150.

Probably scored $2k worth of stuff so I’ll take that demerit for 2 ‘pat on the back awards’.

 

Fieldpiece snob here! Capacitors microfarads temp probe Amp clamp all on one. I even sent mine halfway down a 570 degree conveyor pizza oven and it still worked!

Ye. You should check your Local Stealers. I’m using one close by that I never used before. Buy the schtuff online CHEAP! and pick it up eliminating shipping.

Looked at the blower motor and its $65 here and ready for pick local up. Its a new Toyota program the parts guy says. My other lifetime stealer is not onboard yet. FAIL!

 

Absolutely. Figured this trick out a waaaays back when I had a Yaris (traded in my built 4Runner so I could afford gas to date the now wifey). Went in to pick up belts and a water pump, the parts tech gave me a URL and said to go online real quick and buy it off their site. 2 minutes later I saved over $100 and picked up the same bag of parts, all bc the purchase went through their online site.

That guy has saved me over $1K easily bc of this trick.

 

I don't follow. Are you saying you buy from a local dealer's website and then just pick it up to avoid shipping? Or you buy from an online source and they will ship it to that dealer for free? Sort of like a buy online pick up in person for free.

 

Find your local stealer that is participating in the new online program. You’ll look at their website and see their prices. Call the local stealer and talk to a human in the parts dept and work out the 1st time mojo.

You’ll go back online and order with CC and click pick up locally. Its all through big Toyota via the stealers participating. You can have it shipped for a cost but why when in my case its a 5 minute drive on the way to my hand treatments? Big$$$avings! Win win.

 

This ^^^^ Did the math in my head for the first time, I’ve actually saved several thousand. This is also how I get my OEM parts and take them to a local shop to do maintenance/repairs.

 

You could always add a tank if you want more air capacity.

 

Whacked out a few projects today...I don't work in the summer so I have time for projects...just not enough money to pay for them haha

Got my Hayden HD trans cooler in, was a smooth install and can report on performance in a few days when I haul the dump trailer. Good quality

Also got my eag (China) grill in ..it's ok, fitment was about 50% good and had to massage a few things. Finish was good enough to not paint if you are ok with matt black. Took the emblem off of course.

Also got a big guurl special tow d-ring...it is kinda cool and will puncture a rear ending Honda Civic radiator pretty good.

I'm interested in this. Did it just mount up to the existing location? It looks like it mounts right in, and you just reconnect the lines. I like the fact that it's not made in China.

The last time I went off pavement in 4x4 I watched my trans temp shoot up to 190 in a matter of minutes.

 

Ordered my diff rebuild kits. Still waiting for the front gear to ship..

You have the stock cooler right?

 

Yessir. I monitor it with the OBDII and my Torque Pro app. I was creeping along that trail and watched it go up up up!

 

I have the torque app too. I haven't been offroading in a while though. Curious to see where it would sit right now, especially in this Florida heat we're experiencing.

 

As long as I'm moving it seems to be fine. It will climb at a red light but then immediately drop back down. It's been around 90 here too. It's when I'm moving slow in 4x4 that things start to get hot.

 

So I took off the OEM unit because someone decided a pressure washer at close range cleaned up the jobby real good...anyhow, I used neoprene isolators between the condenser cooler and the new Hayden unit and poked through the supplied stick zips in about the same location. Cut new lines and clamped them on. It took about an hour (had 3 beers in between) I'm not sure about performance yet because I've had a few so I'll try it out tomorrow. It's well built and I believe it's a worthy upgrade. I have torque pro on my head unit and while towing I never got over 165 with roughly 2k lbs but I'm heading down south (farrrr south) and want my tranny cool as a cucumber in the tropics. I got the 679 unit, it's overkill but overkill is cool lol

Was going to go the fan combo route with automatic switch but that's over the top for my application unless I decide to go crazy for rock crawling which won't happen...my boat absorbs most of my extra fun bucks.
