    Working on it!
I've been looking at the Stillen for a while...what's the difference (performance?) between the oiled and non-oiled filter?

I honestly think it’s just a personal preference, not sure there’s a performance difference but I could be wrong...the one thing I did see is that the oiled option sometimes has a little deeper sound, so that’s why I went that route...and I can def say I’m 100% satisfied with the sound of the kit!...hope that helps!

Great video. I’ve done a few CAI installs on different vehicles and this one was a bit of a pain, so I think the video will help. The instructions kinda suck.

    My thoughts on the intake:
    • Seems to make throttle feel a little more responsive.
    • I feel what I think is a small performance difference with normal driving (I‘m worried the sound might be influencing my judgment, lol). I definitely do feel a bit of a increase when towing a ~4K lbs trailer. I imagine that most of the gains are around the 3k+ RPM range, and when towing in Tow/Haul mode I’m staying in that range a little longer so it’s quite noticeable.
    • There is a quite a bit of whistle from the increased airflow. I personally think it sounds cool, but if you think it might bother you I’d replace that mesh gasket while you have the stock intake removed.
    • For the price we’re paying, if it’s gonna use a bunch of screws that need a allen key, it should come with an Allen key, lol.

Overall I’d definitely buy this again.

Does anyone know which particular K&N filter it uses? I tried looking at mine and couldn’t find any relevant markings, I just always try to keep a spare filter around so when I pop it off to clean I can throw on a fresh one and take my time. I was also considering swapping out the K&N for a S&B since I’ve heard that they have better filtration.

Thanks man, I appreciate it!...def agree with just about everything you said, especially the allen key part!
I’m not sure about the filter part, but I may do the same when it comes time to clean/swap mine out!

Have you seen any improvement in your mpg? I have been going back and forth between stillen & s&b intake.

I was doing the same, almost pulled the trigger on S&B until I saw the results of the Stillen on dyno...I’ll be honest, I don’t really keep track of my mpg, we all know they suck on our Tundras...lol...plus I’m not going to lie, I love stepping on it just to hear the exhaust/intake roar, so mines probably worse at this point...hahahaha

My driving has changed too much and my sample size is too small to really give an answer one way or the other. Prior to the install, I was getting 9.9mpg due to lots of towing, and that was with data collected over the course of a year or so. I unplugged my batt after the install, so my avg mpg fluctuates a lot really rapidly, and I’ve also been logging some highway miles without towing the trailer so that throws it out of whack too.

I was considering the S&B as well, but looking at both intakes they are almost the same. They both use a larger airbox, a large cone filter, and have a secondary channel to pull in air. But with the S&B, it’s recommended to close that off when the ambient temps reach 80°F or so, while the Stillen’s can stay open full time since it has a tunnel to pull the air from outside the engine bay.

The only other difference is K&N vs S&B filter, but I plan on throwing a S&B filter in at some point anyway.

Hmmm. decisions decisions, I appreciate both of your guys input. I might just leave it stock for now. I like the performance of the Stillen but like the look of the s&b.

you don’t. Unless you’re running over 3k rpms all the time, air intakes aren’t worth much at all

I can’t do that my friend!...I’m lovin it...sounds awesome with the exhaust and this particular intake is proven on dyno to add performance gains...I would absolutely do it again if I had to!

Ive have put an intake on 3 trucks before. Only on one did it actually produce low rpm gains. Toyota has a very straight intake tube. It has a good sized box and a straight shot into the TB.
Look up “stock air box mod”

this will give you more air in high RPMs too.

Well not as quite as good sized box as the '07-'13 had. It shrunk a good bit in '14 to fit the same pleated foam-surrounded filter as the 3.5L Tacoma, uses only 2 clips instead of 4, and has an even smaller/shorter lid. It still seems to flow ok. The mounting points look unchanged so I plan to find a salvaged old style box and retrofit it in to use the Donaldson-made filters the 2nd gens got (I like those better than the newer fram-looking ones)

K&N was also making wild ass performance gains at one time that proved to be untrue and got sued.

All I can tell ya is after putting it in my truck I have noticed gains, so that’s good enough for me...and the other gentleman who installed it said the same, so if they’re lying, they’re pretty good at it

I’ve been eyeing this intake all during development. I had a stillen gen3 on my G35 HR motor. There was a noticeable increase in performance with the intake. So I’ve been a fan of stillen for years. I hope this one for the Tundra is felt like the other one was haha.

This would be my 3rd. Here is the one I had on my Infiniti. Dual filters literally mounted behind the grill. Never any water issues. It was an expensive intake when it came out. But it was great quality. Provided actual performance increase and the metal tubing was great for installing nitrous lol.
