Ended up getting a guy I work with to buy the Kenwood subs and all wiring. Lost a little money but oh well. It’s not sitting on a shelf collecting dust in the garage.
I just ordered the loaded JBL enclosure from James. Should be a good system when the amp and enclosure gets in.

I wouldn't sweat it. I think you are going to be much happier with the audio, post OEM removal! Try the powered subs out for awhile. You can always sell them and upgrade later. I will say this, however, when I ordered my sub box from James, I kept my expectations low; not due to anything with James' skill or work quality, but rather the small volume of space available behind the back seat. I installed two 10" Kenwood subs into James' ported box, hooked up an Infinity 650w mono channel amp and wow! Plenty of deep frequency bass. Way more than expected, or needed for that matter!

Anyway, Let me know how it all sounds when you are done!

Oh, wow, you just updated whilst I was typing my last message. GOOD FOR YOU! You will be VERY satisfied! Besides, I like how James does the carpet covering over the box vs. bed liner that the taco guys use.

I got a sealed box from James because I wanted more PUNCH and less boom from those 10s but I do wonder how much different it would sound ported...the little ported JBL replacement box would HOWL on the right song :)

Wow! I never could get my little 8" OEM sub to howl... or pretty much anything else for that matter. Regarding how the ported version sounds: Using my Kenwood H/U equalizer, in conjunction with my Infinity mono channel amp gain, I can make the box "boom" or "punch". I've done non-ported boxes in the past and could never get the flexibility that I wanted in the sound of my music.

if you get a chance, take a pic of your Eq settings, I’ve been fiddling around with mine as well and the little sound profile settings within the Kenwood.

    Update:
After numerous tries to get in touch with the Taco guys with absolutely zero response, I cancelled the order from them.
I emailed James and asked if he could help me out. He shot me an email immediately and sent his #. After a few minutes on the phone with him, I ordered a Kenwood Excelon 5 channel amp and he is changing up the box and sub I ordered to better handle the higher powered amp. Package deal with rack, wiring, adjust knob and harnesses for a plug and play installation.
Totally a stand up guy and I know I will always do business with him from here on out.

    Little update:
Got the sub enclosure, sub, amp and a bunch of other goodies Monday from @james@tech12volts
Absolutely top quality work on the enclosure!!! Can’t stress enough how well built this ported box is. After a call to James, we found out that I was missing the plugs for the factory harness under the passenger seat. James immediately put them in an envelope and got them on the way.
That worked because I was able to work on it a little each day this past week to get it all done and not rushed.
Got the harness today which was the last thing needing hooked up and after a bit of tuning from the starting point James sent, only one word describes the sound.....
    Fanfuckingtastic!!!!
What I ended up with is the following:
All Kenwood Excelon with the exception of the Hertz 10” sub
6906 Head Unit With Maestro and Sirius adapter
Excelon KFC-XP184C components in front and rear doors. Added the tweeters in the sails in the front. Stock location in the rear doors
Excelon KFC X2C 2.5” midrange in the dash corners
KFC 835C in the center dash
Excelon X802-5 5 channel amp with bass control knob
Ported enclosure with Hertz 10” sub

I couldn’t be more pleased with how it all came out. If you’re on the fence about buying anything from @james@tech12volts, just do it. He always replied within minutes to me either by email or text and customer service like that these days is very hard to find. His knowledge of our Tundras is second to none and not afraid to tell you the truth about anything!

I run these in the front doors. The bass is phenominal, and they sound even better with an amp:headbang:

Lol, of course its China. That doesn't mean much though, JL, JBL, Kenwood all have some of their lines, amps especially, made in China. Lots of companies do this, some try to hide it a bit too, one of the more popular brands on this site, Hertz, used to manufacture some of its speakers in a China. It's kind of a crap shoot, some are still decently made, others not so much. I personally would avoid Taco"guys" branded amps. At least with the speakers they sell you're getting a traceable manufacturer. The one thing I hear come up with them is customer service. If that amp went bad you'd be dealing with them and not the manufacturer, that doesnt sound fun.
