What octane gas do you use for your Tundra?

Why does my gas cap say flex fuel only?

 

93. I am not sure about higher octane=higher power but I do believe 93 octane creates a “smoother” feel. I don’t know a whole lot about engines but I heard a few years ago that 93 was better for bigger V8’s. That came from a Ford racing guy and he seemed credible. I ran 93 in my F150. Being a creature of habit I just stuck with it in the Tundra. I even go so far as to get gas at the same station by my house. Also, my truck told me it likes 93 better.

 

Please send a pic if you can. I would be surprised if it said “only”. You have a flex fuel, meaning you can run flex fuel if you want to but I would not run it at all. Stick to regular gasoline. Flex runs dirty. It’s the reason you have 5000 mile oil changes and not 10. Toyota does that because they can’t guarantee you won’t run flex.

 

I think also it depends on the name brand gas station.

 

I drove a tanker gas truck between career changes for about 10 months. I'll say if you're using mid-grade thinking you're getting the middle of the road gas, you're wasting money. Low grade gets low grade dumped in the tanks- simple as that. Premium grade gets pure premium grade dumped in the tanks, simple as that. Now mid grade is mixed based on what the driver blends in his tank and I know for a fact that (most) drivers get lazy after working 70hrs a week every week and they don't want to blend it correctly for many reasons. Mostly to save time. They get paid on how many gallons are dumped in the tanks. NEVER BUY MID-GRADE! I'll never buy low-grade either - dirty stuff. So I experimented with this flex fuel after seeing it at a gas station for the first time, as soon as that shit hit the injectors there was a noticeable difference. I had to hit the pedal harder, felt like a chunky smoothie going through the system. Never again, premium all the way.
It doesn't depend on the brand of station either. Shell, Conoco, Bp, Exxon, etc all come from the same refinery, same pumps, same gas. Phillips 66 was the only one we had to go across the street to different pumps for - the rumor was it was even lower grade. My father in-law was a shell only guy because its the best gas in the business. He was so disappointed when I told him its coming from the same refinery/tanks. lol

@Beerghost - I have nowhere near the experience it sounds like you have, but I've always felt like Sunoco runs best. After filling up at two separate Shells years apart, I got stuck (once) and drove off the highway (once) due to vehicle running like crap or stopping. Different cars. Last placed filled up was shell and once new gas was added, didn't have the problem again. Maybe a fluke, but I avoid Shell gas now (their stores are nice though).

No experience with FF. Seems unwise.

Besides this, Toyota changes the oil change interval from 10,000 to 5,000 for a FFV. From my understanding it’s because the oil gets dirtier much faster with e85.
