I just got my first Tundra. I'm coming over from a Tacoma so I'm not new to Toyota. This will be a thread where I keep track of all my mods and trips.

    Truck : 2017 TRD Pro

    Suspension
Front : ADS 3.0 coilovers, MCM UCA's, wheelers super bumps.
Rear : Custom Alcan leaf springs, ADS 3 tube bypasses, MCM shackles, wheelers super bumps.

    Armor
S.O.B. Fabrication front bumper with Warn EVO 12 winch.
S.O.B. Fabrication high clearance rear bumper with dual swingouts and bedside protection
S.O.B. Fabrication weld on/bolt on sliders.

    Wheels and tires
SCS Ray 10 wheels with Nitro Ridge Grappler 37x11.50 tires.

    Performance
BAMuffler 8" system with the factory tail pipe dumped after the rear axle.

    Drivetrain
5.29 gears with Powertrax limited slip rear carrier.

    Camping setup
AT Overland Atlas camper with interior build out, diesel heater, dometic 95dz fridge, 25 gallon water tank with electric water pump.

    Current photos of the truck

Here are some pictures of the old Tacoma. The Tundra build will be similar when it's all said and done.

Tacoma was mid traveled with BAMF rear shackle hangers and the BAMF rear shock relocation.

On 37's the thing was unstoppable and when aired down it was like riding on clouds through fast rocky sections.

The truck was going to stay completely stock when I first bought it. I figured the pro suspension would not be too big of a letdown coming from the Tacoma. One drive up to my favorite camping spot was enough to change my mind and I was on the phone the next week with Matt at MCM ordering some parts.

Even my wife agreed it needed some attention to get back to the performance we were used to.

Here are some pictures of the first trip off-road, about a week after we bought it.

My wife, the dogs and I took a little day trip around a couple local roads.

    25186.jpg 28991.jpg 28989.jpg

I wanted to test the ground clearance a little bit on the new truck. It got hung up pretty quick. The wheelbase and tire size in the old truck kept me off of this water bar by over a foot. I knew it would hang up, so getting off of it was simple and hitting it at a different angle got us right over it.

The parts pile is growing pretty quickly in the garage.

My buddy traded me a set of tires for some welding work, so the 37's ended up in the garage even though I wasn't going to go that big on tires.

Electrical for the camping stuff will be dealt with with a Renogy 200ah battery, a Redarc bcdc 1240d and some solar panels when the new camping stuff goes on.

    Tiny battery:

Yeah it was bittersweet selling it, but I wanted more power and more room. I regret selling it almost every day, but it was convenient timing and will be better in the long run.

Thanks man  I'm hoping so. The build should go quick and then hopefully it's tons of camping and exploring after that.

I’m hoping to do something similar but on a smaller scale. Would like to have nice camping setup for weekend getaways with the fiancé

Keith at @dirtydeeds hooked me up with an exhaust system. I went with the 8" system after talking with him on the phone. He even customized it a bit for me by not welding the bolt flanges on the front end because the previous owner cut them off for some reason. It was a bit of a wait, but not bad for a custom order. It was well worth the wait though. I haven't installed the resonator yet, and not sure I will until I go with the new tires.

The biggest thing is just getting out and doing it regardless of the setup.

Smittybilt sells a pretty affordable rtt and you can catch them on sale in Amazon sometimes.

There is a also nothing wrong with a good ground tent either. I spent most of my life with leaky ground tents and always ended up having a good time.

Nothing relevant, just a cool picture of the welding trailer my dad and I built. It just so happens that the "Lincoln Gray" color matched trailer looks really good behind the cement Tundra.

Very nice. I’m guessing you’ll be welding up some rock sliders at some point.

I will be. Planning on building rock sliders, a front bumper, and a rear bumper with swing outs just like the Tacoma.
I have a little fabrication business in NM and build a lot of bumpers. I built everything on the Tacoma also.

Nice welding rig you got there- always nice to be talented in something that helps with work or PLAY !

Nice build parts list - will be watching your progress

Hopefully someday I will be able to do a set up for overlanding / dirt bike excursions on my 18’ SR SLOW build

TIME & MONEY- never enough of both !

Definitely not enough time or money. I've always built every bumper I've had, otherwise I couldn't afford any of it. My fire department job pays the bills and insurance, and the welding helps pay for the hobbies.

No sir. I'm going with AT Overland this time.

The GFC left a little too be desired when it comes to long term camping. It was awesome for a weekend rig though.

Well if youre not backpacking or hiking your gear in you could check out Kodiak tents. I have the 10x10 basic, no water getting with these. Theyre heavy and the bag is large though.

Slowly working on building my rig out and had planned to put a GFC on it but the AT habitat looks a lot better for longer trips. I am a huge fan of the build quality of the GFC especially for going fast. How do you think the AT habitat will withstand long term off-road punishment?

I'm actually getting the Atlas instead of the Habitat. I've seen a few AT campers in person and they look solid. The construction method seems very efficient and strong.

The GFC was awesome, but look into the hinge issues they have had. They seem to be resolved, and limited to the early campers. I had #182 and didn't have a single problem. Make sure moving panels to get in and out of the sleeping area isn't a compromise also. It slowly wore on us.

Another selling point was the shorter lead time for the AT campers.
