Any value for 2002 V6 75,000 miles body and power train?

I was gifted this a tundra after my father passed in 2017. I hadn’t looked at it until last winter. Frame is junk. Not safe to drive. Body, interior and power train is good. Should I part it out or sell it cheap? I’m not aware of the demand for any of this. Help?

 

More than anything, I’d say it matters where you are... what state, and how near a big population center?

Mine is a 2002 V6 auto trans. 313,707 miles.

Your truck is worth saving, if you can find a frame.

Looks like it has been religiously maintained mechanically.

 

Keep us updated on what you intened to do.

@empty_lord would most likely reccomended new hard brake lines, and other components. Etc.

 

Brake lines, lower control arms and body mounts if your going to have it all apart. Would drive like a brand new truck. Either save it, or someone would buy it (I would, but uh... I have to many projects right now)

Man... I’d actually love to have that truck for the engine. Use the body and put a v8 frame under it

 

You’d likely make more parting it out, but you’ll be stuck with a torn apart truck for months if not years. Typically easiest to sell as is. Someone will buy it (even I would for the right price... I mean... I have a truck that’ll tow it home.)

 

He is closer to you than he is me, he's roughly 5 hours from me, and I would need the Sequoia to tow it home. Renting a drive on trailer...

I always plug stuff into big brother maps for places I can't remember or have been before.

 

That body and interior are really nice. If the recall hasn’t been accomplished, it’s worth talking with the dealership, to see what they say.

As others have said, it’s well worth putting a replacement frame under it.

 

My truck is the exact same as yours. I have only done regular maintenance items, and have elected to do upgrades as I will drive this truck the rest of my life.

Once they see that they may replace your frame for free.

 

If perforation is found by the rear crossmember it may very well get replaced. We have an 02 getting a new frame soon at work

 

The dealership said the recall work was done in 2010(?) and at that time it was ok, and undercoating was applied but only for the rear cross member that is associated with the spare tire.

Thanks for all of the encouragement! If I fail to get anything from Toyota, I will let it go to a new home.

I don’t like to drive it because the from sway bar links are rusted apart and it is a little scary at highway speeds. A roll back ride to the dealership won’t be cheap. I’m about 50 miles away from a Tansky Sawmill Toyota . I am trying to contact the dealership a different way (Facebook found me the dealership warranty administrator) I sent her a link to my album and post on Facebook. Fingers crossed. I don’t want to pay for the tow if there’s no chance of a positive outcome.

It's never over my friend.... My frame wasn't much better than yours when i started rebuilding my Tundra.
Thats a decent truck.

 

Once you get your new frame, and its safe to drive again we should meet up, and discuss trucks.

 

Just get AAA and have it towed to your dealer for “free”?

 

Same with most insurance companies. 2 ‘free’ per year.

 

Well, the dealership came back with $11,000 dollars of “not covered” items and $4,250 of that was ‘must pay’. I’m trying to get them to cover the suspension parts and I’ll pay for fuel and brake lines and maybe body mounts, and then do the rest of the work myself.

 

Whats the word on the frame?

If they replace that you will have an extremely reliable vehicle.

Mine has let me down once, and that was my fault. First oil change on my own in my lifetime. I thought "Who the hell needs a funnel?"

Well I missed the fill point, and the alternator is immediately below it. That's where a handful of oil went. I thought "Meh. It'll probably be okay."

Fast forward a month and the alternator died on my way to work. I realized it, and went into "Apollo 13" survival mode.

Turned all the lights off, never used a turn signal, and drove her easy. It was like December. It was cold. Turned the heater off too. Brrrr.

Made it to work, and after work I started limping home in the same manner. I was 10 miles from the house when she started spitting, and sputtering. That was all she wrote. Got a jump, and made it home.

If I had to ball park the battery mileage that day? Probably 60-70 miles before she quit.

 

They will replace the frame. (That’s great!) Then I pay for fuel lines suspension and body mounts to a total of $4500 plus any additional costs to get the truck back.
