Is it an automatic transmission? If so you would have to connect to the signal wire coming from the ABS ECU. I have a different unit coming from yellow box. If it works I will post pictures of the install.

This was my correspondence with Yellr in November about this issue, I sent them the thread that the guy posted here about it not working on 05-06. I still haven't tried to splice the 2-wire unit I have in yet because I really don't think it is going to work and the wires that you need to splice are hard to get to. The Yellr staff are very responsive and easy to work with though.

    Hello Seth,

I do not know exactly what has happened with this individual vehicle,
or how, or where his Yellow Box was installed? The most common issue
with Yellow Box installation is actually wiring issues, ie. not good
electrical connections which causes intermittent signals. I believe
this person was a few years ago, from memory we have not heard back,
unsure if that means all is working or not, sorry.

We sell many Yellow Box units for Tundra models. Pre about 2005 it was
straight forward Plug-n-play. From about 2005 onwards Toyota went
through a few years of over-controlled electronic systems, as did
other vehicle manufacturers at that time (some with fatal accelerator
faults). Most of those manufacturers, including Toyota, ditched their
electronic control systems and went back to trusted and reliable
electrical control. Please note that Toyota never had the faults or
massive recall issues that other manufacturers did. Tundra is one
model that has continued with higher levels of electronic control
systems, since about 2005-2006. I believe that there are quite a
number of post 2005 Tundras with Yellow Box units successfully
installed. For more recent models we are advising not to install as
Tundras are even more electronically controlled, using data bus
signals which are not compatible with Yellow Box, and have many
feedback loops that potentially trigger engine fault codes with any
    aftermarket product installed.

For your installation. I cannot say for certain what will happen, nor
what has happened with the installation on the link that you provided.

If you have full wiring diagrams for your vehicle we could offer to go
over these and assess for the comments that you mentioned. Without
wiring diagrams, the only option is to install and see how it goes.
Sorry, not the answer that you are wanting to hear.

It is entirely up to you how to proceed. If you wish to return for a
refund that is fine, if you wish to install to see how it goes and
then decide that want a refund, that is fine too. We will offer refund
    either way.

For Splice installation, secure electrical connections are most
critical. As is having a good Ground source, speed sensor ground is
best. And quality, filtered Power supply source for Yellow Box.

Best of luck with it. Please let me know how it goes.

    Thank you.

    Best regards,
    jennifer

    Seth,

Some of the '04 and all of the '05 - '06 Tundras with automatic transmissions use a signal from the ABS ECU for the speedometer. On and '04 the wire is Green/Black. On the '05 - '06 it is Violet/White. I had originally purchased the "2-wire" yellow box unit. When I connected it my speedo died. When I removed the yellow box and installed the supplied jumper plug and it started working again. I also swapped the signal wires to make sure I hadn't installed them backwards. I have been in contact with yellr and they are exchanging my unit. I will post a follow up when it arrives.

@04TundraTRD did the lights come on for the box? If so maybe try adjusting the controls. If the jumper plug allows the speedo to work then it sounds like either your yellow box is extremely out of adjustment or its defective.

Mine was pretty much set to neutral when I installed it, but another member here who I installed one for was set way off. I think we were going 40 and it said 90, it took a good bit of adjustment to calibrate his. Worth a shot while you wait.

I got back under mind still can’t find it. There is a 2 plug before the trans connects to transfer case and the 2 separatists plugs on the back of the t case...

@Blueranger501 - If its an automatic trans none of the plugs will get you there. You will be in the same boat as me and your speedo gets its signal from the ABS ECU. It is a green/black wire. I have already isolated it and am waiting for my unit to be exchanged. I have the "2-wire unit" and it powers up but is looking for a sine wave not the square wave that is output by the ECU. Assuming it works I will be posting pictures of my install. I will update as soon as my new unit gets here.

All tundra V8s have autos. The rare V6 have been found with a 5 speed from time to time...

Is this a change for our years or for 4x4? Not sure what drivetrain dark side has.

yellr emailed me asking for pics of what I needed. Should o hold off until you have successfully figured it out?

They say it will shift better too. I hope so. Shifts fine now, especially with my valve body upgrade but if I can make it better / fuel trims are more optimized between open and closed loop great!

Interestingly enough after the 35s and regear (went from 33s and stock 3.91) speedo still reads low relative to actual speed.

Might be because it’s pulling from the ABS unit? Others have said I should be reading faster than actual. Speedo read the same on stock gears on 35s as the 4.88s....

    This stuff is so confusing.

    Appreciate the help.

Thats what I thought but I just wanted to verify. Yes this was an oddball change Toyota made. I would hold off ordering until I have received my new unit and can verify if it will work. I have also contacted SpeedoHealer and they said they have a unit that would work but since I already had the yellow box I'm gonna give it a shot, plus the customer service at yellr has been excellent. I'm on 285/75 R16's with stock gears and I'm reading between 8-9% slow. I had attempted to install in line with the VSS thats on the driver side of the trans but it had no affect on my speedo. Yes it should help a little with shifting because the speed signal will be corrected before hitting the main ECU. It should also correct the odometer reading. Check out the circuit description in this attachment. I was banging my head off the wall for days before I found this. The second is the wiring diagram where it shows on page 190 (3rd page of PDF) that the ABS ECU is sending a signal to the Speedo.

@Blueranger501 the 04 has different wiring than previous years, seems to be an odd change. In your pics it is hard to tell which plug you are looking at but it should be on the transfer case near where the rear driveshaft connects. If you look at the pics from @Tohopko that might lead you to what you'll need to see.

@Blueranger501 maybe not but my speedo is dead nuts. ;)

All jokes aside I hope something gets figured out here. It's hard to believe Toyota did such oddball stuff on the 04 model.

285/75/r16 have my speedo off about 8%.

In order to keep my hand model brain function above face and body guys levels (not hard to do), I constantly do maths during my drives. Keeps me occupied from worrying about skin sun exposure.

Sorry, didn't see this. I haven't messed with it so far, just haven't had the time. I've been pulling up Waze on my head unit and just using that speed! With 285/70s, I'm off about 8-9%

I believe the AC actually has the two wire sensor that the Yellowbox is set up for. If you are interested in trying it, I'll be selling mine since it didn't work for the DC.

I'm looking forward to seeing if it works for you. Getting used to driving mine with the difference, but I would still like to have it corrected.

Bilstein 5100's on all four corners, Setting 4 on the fronts, 1" Front Diff Drop Kit, Suspensionmaxx Front Sway bar end links, 1" lift shackles out back, 1.5" wheel spacers all around, 285/75R16 BFG AT TA/KO2's, Front Brush Guard with 20" LED light bar, Kool Vue Dodge style tow mirrors, Yellow Box Speedo Corrrecter by Yellr, Volant CAI, Banks Monster 3” Catback Exhaust, LED's on the interior, LED Headlamps and LED Back Up Bulbs
And now for the moment you've all been waiting for. It works flawlessly. So, here is my installation instructions.

What you'll need: 1 Yellow Box Splice Wiring Unit - http://www.yellr.com/ordering.htm. (I recommend at least 4 meters of harness, I got 3 and wish I had more.), Extra wire for connecting to key power and ground, Fuse Buddy for mini size fuse, Crimp Connectors, Wire loom, Electrical Tape, Heat Shrink, and Wire Strippers

Installation - I chose to send the harness through the firewall grommet from inside the cab, from there I connected the additional wire for the key power and ground. Next I installed the wire loom over the harness and additional wires. Then I installed connectors to the yellow box harness. Then I disconnected the ABS ECU connector and removed part of the wrap to expose the Green/Black Speedo wire. I cut the green/black wire, installed connectors and then connected the yellow box harness in line. Then I plugged in the yellow box and tested its function (I had mine pre-programmed by yellr for ease of install.).

It works great guys. Now I don't have to have my old garmin in the windshield anymore. I'll answer any questions as best I can.

Outstanding! Now I have to send this one back...unless someone knows someone who needs the plug and play version for the earlier models?

Two questions--first, it doesn't seem like it would need 4m of harness to hit all the underhood components--am I missing something? Second, what pre-programming did you have Yellr do?
