What do you TOW with your Tundra?

I installed the Timbren bump stops for the slight sag. Also had the Bilsteins installed to level out the ride.

 

Gosh dam I want one of these so bad!

Tundra pulls it with ease. I keep it under 60mph when towing.

 

I pull a 3400lb travel trailer now. Do you use the tow haul and put in S4?

If I'm towing anything I use the tow/haul mode, but I usually just leave my trans in drive. I've read some things on here that say if you don't use tow/haul mode while towing your transmission will learn different habits. Could be totally off-base, but who knows?

 

Just got back from our first trip. It towed (and slowed) GREAT.

 

We just picked up our Jayco White Hawk 24MBH a week ago today. Towed it from Salt Lake City back to Denver. The Crewmax did a great job even in 20mph winds coming back through Wyoming.

 

That looks huge. Does the truck squat bad pulling it?

 

Surprising it really doesn’t really squat that bad at all maybe 2 inches? It only has a tongue weight of 565 lbs dry. I’ve also only towed it with a standard 2” drop hitch so far since UPS lost my weight distribution hitch that I ordered and still hasn’t showed up... once I put that on there it won’t squat at all, trailer and truck will all sit level.

 

I'm surprised at some of the larger TT I see guys towing on here. When I bought mine the sales guy acted like my truck couldn't tow hardly any weight. (Maybe being conservative) I didnt want anything big anyways but still.. Mines about 4500 lbs dry tongue weight of 540 dry. I definitely feel it working the truck.. I can't imagine some of these I am seeing, going up hill must have your truck screaming....

 

We did quite a bit of research before purchasing our TT as I did not want to be pushing the towing limits of my truck, it might just be the angle of the picture that makes ours look so big, from hitch to bumper it is 29’ long and 24’ livable space. I can definitely tell it’s there but doesn’t feel over loaded and never had any trouble holding my speed going up hills usually around 3,500 rpms in tow/haul mode it holds the gear it wants to be in pretty well. We live in the mountains here in Colorado so I planned that into our purchase for our travels not wanting to be one of the many people overheating on the side of the road going up I-70 every weekend. Some of the larger TT’s like this one are in the ultra lite category making them easier to tow unless you get caught in a nasty side wind. Just have to take your time and remember you have a trailer behind you at all times!

Well written! Yes keeping it under 60 is key to safety! I’ve seen 5th wheels blow right by me as if I was sitting still.

 

Bah! I tow at 75 and 80 all the time, and if I'm in a hurry, 85 mph. Never had a problem. JUST JOKING! If there's a "truck" speed limit, I usually drive at that, or a bit slower. I like driving in California because every vehicle that's towing must drive at 55 mph. It's safer, and saves gas (and a Tundra towing a trailer needs all the help it can get to improve fuel consumption, lol). Then you drive on the nice wide open stretches in the mid west where it's 80, and you see people passing you exceeding that speed limit while towing a good size travel trailer or utility trailer. Uhaul trailers have a sticker on them that says not to exceed 55 mph but you see people going faster than that all the time.

Anyway, here's a pic of my old 2011 Tundra Limited DC and my old 25 foot Airstream in Quartzite, AZ. There was a bunch of stuff in the bed of the truck, so it looks a bit squatted down. And then my current 2009 Tundra SR5 TRD Off-Road CrewMax towing my 22 foot Arctic Fox last summer when I had just recently purchased both within a month or two of each other. Both Tundras tow just fine, even through the mountains. You definitely know you're towing something, but it's not struggling. I believe both trailers weigh about 5500 pounds dry, give or take.

What WDH did you go with? I ordered the Husky Centerline TS 32217 but it got lost on its way to me Via UPS. A claim has been filed and once my money is refunded I may be looking at different options. Nice looking setup by the way Jayco is the way to go!

I've been using a Centerline TS for a few years now and really like it. Used it with our first trailer (that got taken out by a tree at the house) and now with our new Winnebago 2401RG. Haven't noticed any sway at all when using it, even in some higher gusting wind.

 

Towing this Mastercraft NXT20, dual axle trailer. I have fox coil overs and the rear squats a little. I have an old Viair compressor system and bags, just not sure I want to do that type of install to stiffen up the back. Trailer rides fine behind the truck. The Viair system seems cool, can run air tools off of it. but not sure if I want the Install headache. Might sell it and go with the new onboard air systems.

I went with a curt WDH. I hadn’t ordered one when we picked it up and decided to go that weekend and my local auto parts store actually had one that fit the bill. It’s a 10k rated setup. Still need to get the friction sway control mounted but it’s pretty good already.

Cool. I'm used to our popup which is 2200 lbs. I think the 4.6 max is 6400 lbs.

 

Well you are adding a couple thousand pounds . But I think the bigger factor is the added wind resistance vs a pop up. I imagine you will notice the difference but the truck will tow it no problem. If you don't already have one I'd definitely recommend a Weight Distribution Hitch.
