I have a 2020 tundra and tried to buy a locking gas cap from Autozone and they didn’t have one. They tried one for a 2017 and it fit but a week later check engine like came on like I figured it would. Anyone know where I can get one or one that would work without pulling a check engine code? Thanks

Aftermarket gas caps can be a problem. I've had to diagnosis several evap leaks where the culprit was an aftermarket cap. I've learned to only use OEM.

Everyone has that same issue. I went with the locking gas door from AMI. Comes in chrome, gloss black or flat black (mine is flat black).

Yep also tried locking gas cap and got CEL. Switched back to OEM and no problem. A locking fuel door is probably the best bet.

To install this do you need to drill any holes or alter the truck?

X2 ^^, i bought several aftermarket and both of them had the same problem my engine light would come on , didn’t learn the first time. If im planning to get one ill get what @Jim LE 1301 has, i practically spent over 50 buck in those caps and there sitting in my garage collecting dust., pisses me off.

I also have this same AMI flat black gas cap on a white tundra. I think it looks great and it works well. Definitely not bullet proof but if someone does tamper with it you'll know because it will be broken so that helps add peace of mind.

I don't like the look of the aftermarket locking doors. I bought a Stant for my '07 last March from Walmart for less than $10. No problems but just a bit of PITA to unlock every time.
Why didn't Toyota make a locking door or a remote unlocking device like all my other vehicles? Cheap bastards.
My 86 4-runner and 89 Toyota pickup had them.

I squeezed a tiny amount of WD-40 in the key hole ... So far so good. I am keeping the factory gas cap in the car in case of any issues.

According to one of the members, the problem with the locking door cap is that you can take a screw driver and pop it open in 2 seconds ...

Seriously though, what are you actually preventing with a locking gas door or cap. Don't most newer vehicles have baffles in the way that make it impossible to steal your gas by siphoning it out?

For me its not about stealing gas its about people being about to pour crap into your tank. Hell even my motorcycle came stock with a locking gas cap and I don't think the thought on it was people will steal the couple gallons of gas out of a motorcycle, its people can be jealous of your vehicle and do malicious things to it.

Exactly what I was thinking. It's easy to pour a lot of things in that can ruin your truck.

I don’t want to come of as negative; I’m sure that I will anyway thought. Who have you pissed off or where do you live that you need a locking fuel tank?

My exact reason. Definitely not stealing gas. Just protection against dumbass kids or people.

To me it's more the principle of the thing. Every other class of car other than pickups, including much cheaper models, come with locking gas caps. Why shouldn't trucks?

Ya I mean it's just peace of mind. I drove a Hyundai Tucson for 14 years before I bought this truck and I had to pop my fuel tank open every time I wanted to fuel up. Just felt weird to have my gas tank just out in the open without some kind of locking mechanism.
