The right way is the way you want.

If someone else wants it a different way that way is right for them.

If you don't like your toast cut, then not cutting your toast is right for you.

#1. Everyone knows toast and/or sandwiches taste better when cut on the diagonal. #3 is the prison cut. If you prefer #2 you're a menace to society.

#1 is the Only way. Why?

Has a larger cross point (cross-diagonal to the cut) to hold all the sandwich goodies (if involved), otherwise if its just PB&J nbd, any would work.

"No self-respecting southerner slices their toast differently than #1"

 

Slice it thinly on its edge once toasted to maximize surface area.
or just eat it, why cut it, its a small piece of bread

 

I prefer to roll my bread into a sandwich.

 

#1 Gives you 1 piece with side crust and a bottom crust, and 1 piece with side crust and top crust.
#2 Gives you 1 piece with top crust and top half of sides (most desireable), and 1 piece with bottom crust and bottom half of side crust (least desireable).
#3 Is most symmetrical and gives you the same crust-quality of bread on both pieces.
