Howdy everyone! New prospective Tundra buyer here!

Currently I have a 2012 4Runner Trail Edition and I have it on the market right now in order to buy my first truck! Baby number 3 on the way and a bigger property = YOU NEED A TRUCK!

I have been eyeing Platinums and TRD-PROs but as you probably know they are hard to come by and pull a big premium.

Biggest thing that I am looking for is lack of chrome. A lot of the other trim packages have the chrome grille and bumpers, and I just can't stand that.

I love the interior features of the Platinum but it isn't a make or break for me. At minimum I would want heated seats and a sunroof. Needs to be Crew Cab. 4X4 as well.

So would you all recommend I go for a limited and change over grille and bumpers? Is it easy enough? Or is the inconvenience enough to pay for the higher trim?

Thanks and look forward to reading all the threads on here and getting to modifying once I find the truck for me!

    Tastefully enhanced...
Limited with upgraded trim bits will get you what you're after...or have a blank canvas with the SR and just modify/upgrade bits as you need...

if ur looking for new i would do a PRO...personally id try to find a used Platinum tho....Tundras depreciate alot in the first couple years and havent changed much since 2014. I had to replace the chrome handles and mirror caps on mine and its perfect.

I have seen no evidence -anywhere- that “Tundras depreciate a lot in the first couple years”

Rather, the opposite is true. If you try to find a newer used Tundra, you’ll pay about what you will pay for brand new.

OP, your desire for a sunroof is going to limit you to the higher trim levels. But everyone has their non-negotiables. The grill swap and bumpers are not that bad of a job, and there are loads of step-by-steps on here if you search.
@Roman can share pricing for parts with you.

TRD Sport is all colour matched. Not sure if you can get one with a sunroof, though.

Low stock at dealerships, especially in upper trims, means you will pay close to MSRP... and that’s even if you can find one.

Hey thanks for all of the input guys! I think I will start adding the limiteds to my search. That way it should just be the bumper bits that need to change out. I did see the @Roman thread with all of the different parts and such. I'll add them up and if they are less than the difference.

Hopefully soon I will have an intro thread with my truck. Now if someone would just buy my 4Runner!

Platinum trim is what I would buy.

Tundra’s dont depreciate as much as the competition.

Very strong resale, as you are going to find out if try buy a used Tundra...no matter the trim level.

Thanks for the input and the welcome. I am continuing the search. I did find a Limited about an hour from me that is very well equipped and a good price. Started the conversation with the dealer but we will see what they offer in trade.

    Anyone wanna buy a 4Runner? :D
