Seat Upgrades?

2018 SR5 Crewmax with TRD Offroad Package - The front seats are horrible compared to the 2013 DC. Hard, lack of support and arm rests (door and center console) are too far away to use comfortably. Has anyone here found a company that makes different/upgraded seats that are more comfortable for long drives? I spend 3-4 hours/day on the road and I'm at the point where I think I'm paying the entire mortgage for my chiropractor. I don't want to get rid of the truck yet, so looking for suggestions. Thanks in advance!

I totally agree with this. My 2017 F-150 I just traded was FAR superior in seat comfort. That reason alone almost made me back out during the test drive. Would like to know as well.

I was considering switching to Alea or Katzkin leather and asking about switching out the seat foam during install...? It’s one reason I’d ditch this truck, the seats suck ass. People that ride in it say the same.

 

Does yours feel like the lumbar is on even though it’s not? My passenger side doesn’t, but my drivers seat pushes out my lower/mid back

Sort of - I can't even describe it. My chiropractor has me sitting on a folded up hand towel under the base of my spine to keep it aligned properly. On longer treks, they recommend a bottle of water wedged horizontally between my mid back and the seat (for 15 minutes or so every hour) to keep everything moving. I know it sounds really strange, but it is much more comfortable and that is what Dr. Crack ordered after looking at my seat and adjusting my spine weekly. The dealer basically laughed and said "Sorry, nothing we can do - that is the way it was designed." I've got a call into HQ to see if they have any suggestions... I'll keep you posted!

 

My seats are a bit uncomfortable also. I had a 05 GMC Sierra that had seat way more comfortable than this Tundra . Don’t know if the leather kit would help.

Only thing I can think of is aftermarket replacement such as Recaro (and I'm sure others exist). However, I've never had any experience with them, just seen ads in auto magazines.

 

Landcrusier (200 series) seats with modified rails will work for you; they are incredibly comfortable compared to the Tundra seats...your wallet will need to be a fat bastard tho...

 

Just got done watching a Tundra review from a guy who switched from an F-150. He said the Tundra was more comfortable. After just leaving an F-150 for a Tundra, I can tell you there is NO way that’s possible (at leased with the Limited seats).

Important takeaway was that he was driving a Platinum model. Maybe the platinum seats are more comfortable. Sure you could find a used set on eBay?

 

I hear Platinum seats are close to LC seats and offer both better leather and better foam for support...might be the best bet like A Guy suggests...

Go to a interior shop and have them redo your seat to your liking, worked in my wife's car for me. I hated those seats!!!! The guy who did mine had me stick around his shop so I could sit in the seat as he redid it. A lot of newer cars and trucks the seats are like rocks. I find my daughters seats in her pro are not comfortable for me!! It is all personal choice. I like my cloth seats in my SR5. But that's me.

I like the idea of Lexus seats. Or some high end model of Toyota you like for that matter. I’m sure seat rails can be modified to swap basically anything into your truck. I would just stick to Toyota branded to look somewhat factory imo. Plus, at a pick a part or buy a parts car it wouldn’t be too badly priced maybe.

 

I’ve boughten write off insurance trucks for motors and parted the rest out and come out with a motor plus cash. Would work with seats too if you have time and energy to do so.

 

I'm really surprised by all of the dissatisfaction with the seats. The seats in my 2018 Platinum are probably the most comfortable seats for long distance traveling that I have ever had in a vehicle. And I have owned A LOT of vehicles! Even my wife says her ass is happier on them.... which, of course, makes me happy!

 

I think because you have platinum. I have the “leather” from a limited on my SR5 seats and it’s like a torture device.

I’m actually looking into switching to Katzkin, but also having the shop do some work with the foam to make it more comfortable. I’m past the “break in” Period I’ve had the truck since 10/2018 and they are still hard as a rock. As to a post I saw above, the guy talking about the F150 is smoking crack because I’ve had 2010 and 2015 XLT and they were 1000x better on long trips. Not to mention they held my ass in the seat instead of sliding around.

 

So, the official response from Toyota after a 28 minute hold and 90 second conversation: "Thanks for providing feedback so we can take it into future design considerations if enough people complain about it."
Me: So, help me understand - What is the takeaway from this? There is nothing available as an improvement? Other customers must be having the same complaint?
Rep: "Nothing that I am aware of. Thank you for taking the time to let us know. Would you like to participate in our three-question survey?"
Me: So what am I supposed to do? I still owe more than it's worth on trade in. Will you buy the truck back from me?
Rep: "Sorry sir. Thank you for your time. Are you willing to participate in the survey?"
OMFG! How do the manufacturers get away with this crap!? Keep jacking the prices, cheapening the materials... and to think Toyota is the better of the big manufacturers! Scary times we live in...

 

Not to be rude but what were you really expecting from Toyota to tell you?? You were the one that bought the truck. As another member has advised try the Platinum seats.

I had leather added to my 2014 SR5 when I bought it,
I'd guess it is similar to the Limited leather you have.
I've had no problems with the comfort, just the wear, mostly where I slide in and out to get out of the truck..
These seat are much more comfortable than the 60/40 bench seat of 2005 SR5.

I just had the front seat done with Katzkin, i don't use the back seat, it still looks new.
They seem to have a little more foam behind the leather.
Made the seats a bit firmer, the wife says they are more comfortable ...
The dark graphite color is a tad off, just a touch lighter than the original, but not enough to have the rear seat done.
I plan to keep this truck for at least another 7 or 8 years.
I keep the rear covered anyway.

 

it’s like plastic dude it’s not leather. Thanks for chiming in to tell us how long you plan on keeping your truck though. You stopped just short of “I bought a tundra because I needed a truck if I wanted fancy seats blah blah I would have bought a Lexus”

If that is all you got out of my post, you must have stopped reading it the second you got OFFENDED...

I only mentioned keeping the truck because the color Dark Graphite Katzkins is a touch lighter than stock (compared to the stock rear seat) and I don't care about the resell value.
If I planned on trading or selling the truck in the near future, I would have had the rear seat done in Katzkins as well.
But in all honesty, no one would probably notice it but me.

Also added this info because others on the Katzkin Leather Interior Offer thread are considering doing what I did, only replacing the front seats.
