What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Fuzeit’d the OEM ‘All Weather Floor Mats’. I paid big money for these back in the day. They were developing some hairline cracks along the stipples in the areas where the feets lay. Bridged the gap with some left over Acrylic Clear Latex on a quick repair last year, but its inferior for this area. The Fuze should hold. All in all these mats are still in great shape. Wish Toyota still sold them. Discontinued.

 

Search for "turn to open" draw latches, these should hold up much better than the rubber latch. You can use the butterfly part as a handle when pulling the drawer open, or attach a lanyard if you need more pulling leverage.

 

Nice! I was going to go diamond back until this cap popped up, the diamond backs for 1st gens are super hard to find used!

 

1st Gen 05 101k, Had to replace the tail gate handle, pulled off and flipped over my head. Oh well found this chrome replacement on Amazon. It's heaver and better made than OEM.

 

I've been looking at them but couldn't justify $2049. This way if I don't like it I won't be out anything. Only had it a couple weeks but I think I will be among the many DiamondBack fans. These things are crazy strong.

 

Perused the FSM Manual today and found some reference material on testing the o2 Sensors recently replaced. The old readings are as follows in the pic. The original? rears had ZERO resistance. The (6 years newer) Bosch fronts both read 9.1, which leads me to think they aren’t the proper build for our trucks but still fit/work?

FYI: No CEL were on. I just replaced all 4 because I wanted to. Well I had a theory and proved it?
Not sure how to test these hot without scalding my sensitive skin.

Truck Engine is reacting SUPER nice and as good or better than when new and the City MPG has improved 1MPG. Highway is unchanged.

 

Let me know if you need any tips for installing the fan on your shell! I think I'm the only other person who has. Make sure to build a wooden square underneath to give the screws on the roof to bite through since fiberglass is not substantial.

 

I have found that retractable phone cables are amazing. It just sits unnoticeably in the USB socket until you need it.

 

Where can I find your installation? Would love to get an understanding before I start!!

While the fan still isn't wired yet, since then I've added a modern-looking

$66 MAXXAIR Maxxshade - Lightweight RV Window Shade, Blocks Out Sunlight & UV Rays, Easy Installation, No Lighting (00-03900)

shade that closes (got it used with no problems for $15).



I still need to add the decorative trim piece that goes inside the fan to cover the wood, but at least I made some metal trim for the deck. It's a lil' dirty.


Also those handles are for roof passengers to hold on tightly! Kidding.

Seeing this pic makes me seriously consider ditching the idea of replacing my carpet and going the bare bottom bed liner route. Worst case if I don't like it I can always buy carpet and go that route. My carpet today is pretty nasty, and besides it's the wrong color.... not black.

It may have taken a 30 pack of Labatt to get it done.

So, plastidip looks pretty darn good from 5+ feet and that is what most people care about. And for $8.99 a can. Why not give it a shot? It peels right off.

Sorry for the bad lighting. Not sure it works with the rest of the vehicle but the grill was quite faded. Might look into other options.

 

The fact that it was nearly 90 all week made them to down pretty easy. I told the wife I needed to stay hydrated.

 

Here's attempt one for a wireless charging setup. I picked this location so when using Waze or Google Maps it's easier to read vs sitting on the tray under the ash tray. Driving into ATL 5 days a week I use Waze a lot...

The coin holder will have to go somewhere else as it won't close with it sitting there - so I will redo the foam once I settle in on this.

The power for the charger is fed off of the GTA Cat Kit I installed last year.

And when not in use just close the lid and it's like nothing happened.

I like, my only fear would be driving with it up eventually destroying the hinge.

 

Put some cheap Napa pads and rotors on the front of the truck because the noise was driving me nuts from the old ones.



And accidentally fixed my random vibration at 40 mph... apparently the brakes were the issue, weird

Next task is to address the SQUEAKY LEAFS. MY GOD THEY ARE DRIVING ME NUTS

I'm not a fan of those hard fiberglass bed covers, but found a cheap one on Clist that appeared color matched, was close, was cheap.
at 3am.... Sent an email, went to sleep. Woke up at 8am, had an appointment time set by 9am, got there at 10:15, installed, paid for & gone by ~ 11am. Needs a better wash but there it is. guy helped me mount it on my truck, got me some hardware, so I over paid him slightly. His price was very reasonable.

lid has some gray in it's silver, truck has some blue in it's silver, but it's close enough most people won't see it.
I'll have to read up on these. There's some hardware I don't understand - pins with cotter pins wired to them for ???
The one piston was off it's mount, the other piston was almost off it's pin. Got them both back on & put nuts on them - they were real buggers to compress by hand to align / slip up the mounts. Lots of life in those pistons, but they're not holding the cap up so....?
Put a length of scrap wood in the bed for now.
Conceptionally i prefer the folding 3 panel vinyl cover, but lately it's been annoying me flapping as i drive with the back window open. We'll see how I like this.

I love the more-aggressive stance now - the added height with the different offset wheels and 265/70-17 Duratracs looks pretty good, IMHO.

Now I need to clean it up more under there (looks like some wire brush and Rustoleum black will help) and then start on the obvious paint issues on the body...

 

Looking at this more and seeing that the stock part is $100, I think I will leave the plastidip for a bit but it just doesnt look quite right. I think I prefer the stock look.

 

It's hard to paint an accent part a color/finish that isn't found anywhere else on a vehicle without realizing it looks put of place. That's why after my last painted grille started to chip I sanded it clean and left it alone.

 

Finished my reverse camera install with this switch on the dash that replaces a blank. Flipping the switch sends power to the camera and triggers my HU to display the picture without turning on the reverse lights.

That's a cool use for the switch, I never would have thought of that. Glad that worked out.

 

My spicer carrier bearing came in today. Will try and get it installed in the next few days.
