I ran Amsoil for 2 intervals at 5k a piece. Signature Series 0w-20. Its good stuff but my truck would "smoke" alot with the amsoil in it. I had seen a few youtube posts about the same thing in different vehicles so I decided to switch to the Catrol GTX Magnatec you get from walmart and went to 5w-30. Never looking back now. Truck idles great, no smoke effect, and it quieted the valvetrain down a good bit. I run Amsoil in the diffs and trans fwiw but I won't run the oil anymore.

MY brother is a car nut and races some. He is telling me Penzoil synthetic is the best. I guess that is what they are using at Ferrari racing now?

Also if you knew anything about Ferrari’s they are not reliable at all. None of them last over 200k miles without major problems. First goes the differential then everything else.

BMWs factory oil is made by Shell (Pennzoil) as of around 2012 when they switched from BP (Castrol)

Clearly it has been established that a new Tundra forum member knows more than the engineers at Ferrari and BMW and what oil is the best for all of us.

I would like to use this post to thank that individual for their amazing inputs and information that they have chosen to share with our community in order to enhance our Tundra engines lives and the welfare of those operating these unreliable beasts in non permissive environments such as asphalt roadways, loose gravel and sometimes wet or dry dirt paths untouched by the eyes of man for centuries.

Thank you for sharing your magnitude of wealth upon those who tread beneath you.

You are correct. Now, lets discuss change intervals which I recommend no more than 3-5k miles which will surely start another sub discussion war.

    But Toyota says 10k!:boink:

Exactly. I have to stop reading these. Everyone gives an opinion without much to back it up except "I'm using it and have had no problems." Some other videos try to simulate real world conditions. Not sure how well.

The only guy that actually impressed me....I was working on my Corvette before a time trial at an Exxon station. A guy comes up to me and says "Nice car. But I get rid of the oil/foam air filter combination." I asked what he based it on. He said he worked for Caterpillar. They did a study impregnating rings with a radioactivity. They put the trucks to work in the field and tested various air filters. After X amount of time (I don't remember) they brought the trucks in, and drained the oil. The foam/air filters had the highest radiation counts (meaning the most wear). I got rid of it and went to a paper element.

nobody said high performance cars were supposed to be reliable... that being said BMW engines are typically not the parts that break

I've been an Amsoil dealer for 12 years. They only stand behind the 15k interval claim if you're using their EA15k filter. Your engine also has to be in good mechanical condition. Which I'm sure yours likely fits that requirement being only 44k miles.

My Tundra gets its annual 0w-20 Amsoil change on Memorial Day weekend. However, I don't come close to 15k/yr, so I cannot claim that badge.

I have used Amsoil in engine, trans and rear end in my previous 2001 Tundra with appx 275,000 on it, runs excellent never had any issues with anything.

I Just switched over to Amsoil in my 2016 5.7 as well.

Their signature series motor oil has a better additive package than their other 2 lines , and can run up to 25,000 or 1yr , but I will probably change it every 12-15k.
their EA series filters are supposed to be excellent as well , check recommended filter change interval as well, some have 15k and some are 25k ?

talk to me about the Amsoil filters. I’ve learned on 2 Hondas and a Powerstroke that the OEM filters were best. What’s the consensus on this thread (since it derailed some time ago from the original question anyway)?

...disclaimer I'm not here to sell anyone product. I'm a terrible salesman and I tend to do business strictly local anyways...

The EA filters are synthetic media (aka polyester blend) much like the more expensive top tier mobil pureone knn and so on. The materials are top of the line. There are hundreds of filter dissection videos on youtube to prove that. My favorite channel is Project Farm. He's non bias and very thorough in his tests of everything. Check him out. Anyways, I'm not 100% certain on this, but my guess to why Amsoil only backs their long interval claims using their own filters is because they only test their own stuff. Think about it, there are just too many other combinations of oil/filter out there to test them all and offer a claim. So they test what they can control, their media. The price is just a bit more than the direct competition and filtration is important, so I spend the extra couple dollars. In a pinch, I've used PureONE filters from the parts store. Now purolator has the "BOSS" filter. It's their top tier filter. Very nice synthetic filter.

OEM filters are meant for OE oil change intervals. Nothing wrong with those. But don't exceed the duration by too much. Our trucks use synthetic oil, so any grade Amsoil would be fine. If you want to use the OE Toyota filter, check out Amsoil's line of OE synthetic oil.

thanks; I appreciate the explanation! No worries with a “sales pitch” as I’m thinking of doing the distributor route myself once we finish our move to the communist state of Illinoisistan so I can get the price break on product.
Any issue with filter o-ring seal issues on the Amsoil filters? This tundra filter is annoying and messy (I guess it’s “good” to see the condition of the filter but I’d rather have a screw on disposable like every other car on the planet). I had many folks in Alaska who ran Amsoil and their 10-20 year old Diesel engines with cold starts 8 months out of the year and mountain pulling they swore by the stuff. I don’t see that with Mobil1, Pennzoil, Castrol, etc.

Everyone has their brand loyalties. Can’t get away from that in the internet.

The orings they use are orange Silicone. Not sure I’ve ever seen issues with any manufacture oring before honestly. It’s usually operator install error if there is one.

from my understanding, the push to a canister type filter is for environmental purposes, manufacturing cost reduction, and “convenience”. Although in my eyes, 1 spin on is more convenient than two removal tools, two orings, and a filter drain hose. Whatever. It works. Haha

Who wants to buy a truck with 20K oil change interval? 100,000 mi truck with 5 oil changes?? Well, I'm going off topic. If I have to pick one, I will go with the Amsoil.

you’re assuming that the goal is resale of a truck after 4-5 years as opposed to keeping it for 20. I prefer to not lose even more money in a depreciating liability, and am looking for smart ways to extend the longevity of the vehicle until repairs exceed the value I place on the truck, not what Kelley, NADA or a dealer “says” it’s worth.

Aren't amsoil EA filters made by wix? And Napa gold made by wix? Just a whole lot cheaper.

I don't think so. It's not like Truck Hero who makes nearly every tonneau cover on the market.

Bobistheoilguy forum probably has gobs more research on filters though.

Amsoil filters (and Wix, Napa Gold, Mobil 1, among others) all seem to be made by Champion Labs, but they’ll be made to whatever spec the brand wants.
