I've been here a little bit, just haven't properly introduced myself. I just recently got my 3rd Tundra, I strayed from the brand for a short bit. My 1st Tundra was a 2012 DC SR5 with the 4.6, it was a great truck. I got the itch a couple years later for the 5.7, so I got a 2014 DC SR5 with the 5.7. About a year of owning my 14 I got to talking to the salesman I do business with about a diesel, I had this itch for a diesel and was hopping Toyota was going to scratch it. After waiting almost 3 years I couldn't take it anymore, it didn't look like Toyota was going to join the diesel party anytime soon.

So I defected from the brand and bought a 2016 Ram 2500 with the Cummins. I was less than thrilled to discovered my new pride and joy had a vibration at 65 plus MPH. After 3 trips to the dealer I couldn't take it anymore, I drove a friends 2015 Ram 3500 and found it to ride nicer and smooth with no vibration.

After only owning the 2500 for 3 months, enter my 2016 Ram 3500 with the Cummins and Aisin trans. I thought I had entered truck heaven, the thing was a beast. But bliss was not to be mine, this one shook like a Chihuahua passing a peach pit. It spent 26 days in the shop while the dealer chased the source of the vibration, it turned out replacing both drive shafts and the carrier bearing was the solution. Unfortunately it wasn't the end of my problems, next up on deck was the transmission not shifting right and loosing battery voltage. I couldn't take it anymore, it seemed like one thing after another, something I never experienced while owning my Tundras.

    163500_zpsd2oi748i_2fd7834586f502882d9e431fdfa14abb3f1b166a.jpg

I owned the Ram 3500 for 7 months before I decided to ditch my diesel dream and return to the Tundra fold. As luck would have it, I found a leftover 16 Platinum. I'm once again a happy Tundra owner, sure the 5.7 doesn't produce 900ft/lbs of torque. I ditched my plans of buying a 43' 5th wheel camper and decided to just hotel it. I can stay at some pretty damn nice hotels for what I would have had in a new 5th wheel camper.

Welcome back to the Toyota family. Sorry about the troubles you had with the 2500 and 3500, but at least you won't have those worries / problems anymore.

More truck more problems.......However, I am curious as to why you went to 2500 SRW /3500 cummins which is substantially more truck than a tundra - then to a 3500 dually and then down to a Tundra? Sure - the tundra is a hefty 1/2 ton but in terms of capabilities the 2500 w/ the cummins and a 3500 w/ a cummins spank a tundras capabilities in terms of payload and towing.

Welcome from eastern CO! Despite the power figures, I've never been to impressed with Rams myself. Glad to see you're back from the dark side.

When I bought the SRW I was looking at 5th wheel and ball mount campers in the 35' range, which is also why I chose the Cummins. When I moved to the DRW 3500 I decided to go with a 43' 5th wheel toy hauler, the wife loved the idea. I was actively looking at some campers to decide what I wanted. When the troubles continued I decided the agrivationjust wasn't worth it. I can pull my bike or trike with the Tundra in a 12' enclosed trailer I already have been using for that very thing. I decided staying at a motel is a whole lot cheaper than a 70k toy hauler.

I loved that duality, it was a beast. I pulled the the trike in the enclosed trailer to Nashville back in August. No matter what the hill, it stayed in 6th gear with the torque converter locked up. I had the cruise set at 77 mph. I averaged 13 mpg. The truck never knew the trailer was there. Same trailer on the Tundra results in 9.5 mpg and it down shifts a lot on even the smallest of hill.

It was funny at the Toyota dealer. I parked the Tundra I bought beside the Ram, the Tundra looked like a Prius setting besides that dually. When test driving the Tundra it felt like I was driving a go cart. I had a dream, now I have a direction. Sometimes plans and dreams don't turn out like we want them to.

Damn man, two Rams down. I had two dodges and they weren't even in the hunt when looking for a 1 ton for myself. Well, I looked at them from about 400 yards when purchasing my GMC. I also figured two different trucks couldn't be total POS's. I was mistaken.

I think more often than not, people are figuring out that hotels vs huge toyhaulers pay for themselves in about 20 years. Only exception to that is if you camp in areas that do not offer hotels close by.

Great looking truck! Like that white.

Another RV'r who gave up the RV plan because of issues like yours. If only Toyota made a 3/4 or 1 ton pick up our problems would be solved. Instead of campsites, we'll be staying at B&Bs as we travel from Texas to Maine this summer. Wife is VERY happy. Happy wife,...

Welcome! My buddy tried to talk me into a Ram, but after he told me of all the problems he had, the Tundra was a no brainer.

Welcome to the forum from Texas! I had two dodge rams before buying my first 2010 Tundra DC. Both dodges always seem to have issues with something . After I had my first Tundra back in 2010 it was a big relief to not have to go to shop, unless I needed regular maintenance done. Since then I'm on my fourth Tundra and all of them have been very reliably Tundras. I like that white Platinum. Personally I think the Platinum has the best interior of all the various Tundra models. Enjoy your new ride!

I would have never figured I'd get 2 stinkers in a row. I almost bought a 2016 Chevy Duramax CC Dually with the High Country package, couldn't come to an agreement on price. I'm in a much happier place since I'm back with Toyota. My brother who has a camper worked real hard at talking me out of getting one, he said they were a money pit lit a boat. In my neck of the woods 5th wheel campers are a tough one to sell, people getting out of them take a bath when it comes time to sell them.

I fell in love with the Platinum also, it seems to ride nicer than my past Tundras did. I'm real happy with the interior, the wife is also quite happy it is easier for her to get in and out of the Tundra vs the Ram I had. Both of my Rams barley made it into the garage, they only had about 1" of clearance between the roof and the overhead door. The Tundra has a ton of clearance between the roof and overhead door.
