Saw and participated in the 'famous people you've met' thread, and wondered if you've run across any who were flat douchebags. LOL

For me, as much as I LOVE(d) his books, I'd say Tom Clancy. I met him twice (both times to get an autograph), and both times, he wasn't engaging in discussion with anyone, didn't want to, lit up (smoked) in no smoking areas, etc. A buddy of mine in the Navy confirmed that he was also a douchebag to him as well; he was accompanying him on a helicopter flight out to their ship, and as we're told to, he was giving him the $2 tour. Tom Clancy interrupted him @ some point and said "I wrote books with these in there, thanks." LOL

Literally every other famous person I've met has been cool as hell, but not Tom Clancy.

Opinion of douche-iness is not political just because the douche happens to be a politician.

Texas Rangers game, ball park Arlington. met Nolan Ryan in the parking lot while walking into a game. Got his autograph. Do i need to continue on how awesome it was? He was obviously retired at this point but I’m not kidding we walked in between cars and he happened to be getting out of it with his wife. Light blue Lincoln town car.

To be clear, is it ok to name a douchey politician if you actually met him/her and were treated with disrespect?

    Sorry, no.

Forum experience is that it gets carried away and turns into a crap show.

By all means take it to PM’s.

The "Totally Awesome Computers" guy. Dale? Dell?
Whatever his name is. I was a kid working at a gas station and you had to leave a card, cash, or you had to prepay to get the pump turned on. Same rules for everyone. Well he just wanted to leave his keys. "I don't need your keys. Need a card, cash, or prepay." To which he said it was so he couldn't forget to come back in.... Long story short, he left his card to get fuel, and he left his keys in order to back up his position of not forgetting. Total condescension in his tone the whole time.

Let's just all agree that all politicians are douches and move on to just celebrities.

A good friend of mine met lots of celebs at comic con in SLC and he said Lou Ferrigno (TV's Incredible Hulk) was terrible. Screamed and yelled at anyone that took a picture because he was trying to sell his autographed ones. Same friend said that Kevin Sorbo was the coolest guy about everything, and actively engaged with every fan he met.

I was going to cynically say "all celebrities aren't douches too?" But I know that's not true as most of them are nice, decent people.

My mother in law once spent time talking to Tom Clancy pool side and never knew who he was, had a whole conversation without realizing it. She thought he was nice, later her husband let her know who it was they were talking to.

This doesnt really relate to the threads purpose very well, but Ive met Henry Rollins and despite the tons of videos out there that make him seem like a hardcore guy, he was a wonderful person to speak with.

Steven Tyler at the flight park I hang glide at back around 2000. Brought his own personal paragliding instructor, basically took over the hill, acter holier than thou, and was a general prick to everyone. We were fairly unmoved, treated him like anyone else, didnt pester (nobody really cared he was there, we were busy flying). The end.

He may have been on the defensive expecting us to freak out, or was butthurt we didnt treat him like a god. Couldnt tell, but wanna give him the benefit of the doubt he was having a bad day maybe

John C Reilly. He's not like he is in movies or TV at all. He and his wife were very pushy.

One of the most humble was Paul Walker. I talked to him a few weeks before he died. We were talking about the new Burton snowboard lineup. He was supposed to come talk to me again when we had more bindings. I asked him when he was going to bring the kids in for rentals before their annual Big Bear trip (not HIS kids, but kids from a charity he worked with). He didn't get to go on that trip. His assistant brought the kids in like a month later. They were excited, but you can tell they were missing Paul.

Another encounter was with Patrick Swayze. I saw him about shortly before he died. He was wearing a hoodie with the hood up and was really frail looking. He asked me about repairing some bikes that he wanted to give away. His assistant brought them in a few weeks after he died.

The former CEO of our group. Had the chance to meet him doing support for one of their in person meetings that was so unnecessary (flying people in from all over the world to talk about how much money they are making, how much could you be saving by staying at home and doing video chat but I digress...). Granted I'm a lowly grunt down in the trenches and he's the big wig CEO out of London. It was during a break in their meeting, I was doing IT support, No one was around kissing his ass and he was standing right next to me so I spoke to him, "Hello, I'm Bob, your IT support this week." asked him if there's anything I can do for him. He just kinda looked at me for one of those long uncomfortable pauses.. "yes, thank you." in his cottony accent and turned around and walked off. Hate to say it but glad he got fired. (probably golden parachuted out with more than I'll make in my life but another reason he's a douche).

That does remind me....the former captain of the carrier (USS Enterprise) I was on. Not sure if he was having an off day, but was in his stateroom once doing a computer work order. I happened to put my hand on a personal laptop he had only because it was the only flat surface he had on his desk that wasn't cluttered. "Don't put your hand there!" he said; so I lifted it and put it somewhere else....unfortunately, it landed on top of his Palmpilot (that oughta date me). "DON'T touch my Palmpilot!"

I looked at him and slowly raised my hand and held it there for a few moments as I looked for a safe place to put it, intentionally glancing at him. I think he eventually realized he was being kind of a jerk.

Fun fact, though - the guy was the 'actual' Iceman. (He was the guy who flew "Iceman" in "Top Gun" - which happened to be filmed on yes, the USS Enterprise. LOL)

Coworker of mine had the opportunity to meet Stone Cold at a comicon I believe. Said he was a douche too. Don’t remember the full story but something about he paid the extra money to have that opportunity and he just got up and left.

For me the Douchiest award belongs to Jane Fonda.

Edit: Forced meeting while I was receiving treatment in my Dermatologist office. She and Ted was sitting in the waiting room as I was leaving.

No kidding. Dad was over there (though not 'there' at the time) and yeah, suffice to say her stunt did not go over well with the US military.
