What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Got my MaxOak 500wH Battery in. I still might run dual batteries in the Tundra since I have the relay and the 00 cables but I definitely don't NEED to now.

Once I get back from vacation, I think I'll order my solar panels and the MaxxFan for the topper.

Also, ordered my 4.56 gears. Still need to order the rebuild kit and the front locker.

 

Pretty sure they come with 650s out of the box. Mine are set at 2-2.5", not sure. A lot of things happened at the same time, brute force fab front bumper, winch, 35s, skids, new lower A Arms....

Ride good though, pretty happy except I wish they came with a resivour and compression clicker adjusters.

 

I went with the same coating on my sliders and my front hybrid on the 4runner. It’s a good coating choice, but will scrape off if you use your sliders, but touch ups are usually easy with a rattle can of bumper liner spray(matches close enough)
I don’t know if it was me rubbing up on a tree or someone else tagged the bumper but I’ve found a few chips over the years and just rattle can bed liner them, the sun fading isn’t helpful with color matching but it’s close enough.

 

Archive pic. Did this to remove the play/movement in the Throttle Cable. Added a Zip Tie in the void. You’ll also need to tighten/remove slack at your Throttle Cable Adjustment next to the Throttle Body, as the cable stretches over time. This applies to the 2000-2002 models (throttle wire). Cheap and easy.

 

But remember that if you do this, you'll need to clip it to remove your intake manifold.

Well it was a good day...

Next up. The interior was decently cleaned by the prior owner but he had a dog. And I knew what that meant:


I have a dog too, but she is a yorkie- chihuahua which means no shedding. So time to pull the interior out:


Head unit came today. A kenwood dmx706s with apple car play. Anyone with an iphone know that apple restricts what apps you can display. (thanks mom!) but if you know how to jailbreak your iphone (pretty much every phone except if you have a new one with 13.5.1 but that'd likely change soon) and use "Carbridge" for $4.99 you can use the display just like your iphone. It accept touch inputs for pretty much any app.

Head unit installed and back up camera works right away. I am waiting for a rocker switch that fits in the 2002 blank spot to the left of the steering wheel. This will also send power to the camera (but not reverse lights) to use the camera at any time I'd like. Why??? Really I don't know but it seems trick.




While wrapping up the HU, FEDex drops off something that takes about 30 min to install:



Boom! We are ready to backpack and throw all our gear "securely" in the bed.

It is getting late and you are supposed to install the sound damping mat at "lower" temps so I will do that tomorrow morning.


Hey, not a bad day and it was only 100 F or so. Wish my old house's car port could fit this vehicle with doors all opened but alas no. So I was under a tarp in the driveway. Lots of water...

How long did your old LEDS last? I was gonna grab the same katanas you had but sounds like they failed quickly? I bought new headlight housings and need bulbs or just maybe through some standard bulbs in.... whatever you think I should do Ill probably do. Keep me in the loop

 

Well I realized that I am approaching sound damping a bit wrong. Seems that the vibration damping material does not need to have 100% coverage. BUT, to block road noise, I need a layer of close cell foam and then mass loaded vinyl on top. Looks like that will have to wait for another time...which means I'll be pulling out the interior again in the future. haha.

 

Installed a Sound Ordnance B-8PTD amplified compact subwoofer under my drivers seat today.




When testing it out as pictured I was a bit disappointed in the sound but when I installed the seat it sounded much better. Exactly what I had hoped for, something to compliment the existing radio.

 

whats the clearance seat to sub look like? its the only reason i've held off knowing if it'll actually fit or not..

 

I must be legally blind because I can't see what you guys are pointing out. Is it possibly weeping from that bolt?

 

Find another shop. That's obscenely overpriced. Swapping springs is 2 hours labor max, $100 each side is generous.

 

It touched only when the seat is fully forward but the amp wasn't secured with the hold down brackets it comes with. When I fastened it with those brackets it seemed like it just cleared. I thought about adjusting the lower seat area with a BFH but figured I'd try to shim the rear mounts first. Worked great since I'm kinda short and didn't mind the small seat height increase. I can check and get more pics tomorrow if needed.

Oh, and I removed the tie-down of the pictured seat belt minder wire loom just so I could push the sub/amp as far forward possible.

 

hmm, so this should work for me... reg cab life means underseats are all i can use unless i want to lose the little bit of space i have behind the seats!

 

Here's the dimensions I used to determine that it would work for me. dimensions: 9-1/8"W x 3-1/8"H x 13-5/8"D

They lasted 14 months. I have the daytime running mode and do lots of day driving. Looks like the Original Katana is discontinued as of recently. These are the Katana II (my term). Not sure any brand of these LEDs are meant to last or by design can last like they would in a home due to heat.

I’ll be installing them soon and will report back. Standard bulbs are expensive so you might want to make a decision before a double purchase outlay.

I’ve disabled my DRL mode and now people don’t pull out in front of me as much.

 

Actually, I lied. This pic was from last week but the ‘mod’ was done last year sometime? It really does take out about 1/8” slop movement in the cable. The other slop can be removed at the throttle body adjust. Pedal is tight!

 

Center of the pic kind of in the background the bubbles are coming from where the header attaches to the head on two of the runners.

 

Oh man I see the foam now. What gaskets did you use?

I think it's between the header and flange though.. not sure if it's possible to be there without a Crack in the welds. Going to see if I can tighten it any.

 

You mean between header and flange on the mating surface, or outside where the pipe comes out of the flange? That's pretty odd.

 

Outside of flange where the pipe exits... which leads me to believe it's cracks in the weld but idk. I had trouble getting to both of those bolts when tightening so I'll try that again first.

 

Can you identify where this goes? Putting the carpet back in and I forgot where this piece goes?

Test plugged the new Katanas without drivers. Looks like they are good to go. I’ll finalize install after lunch. Feel good about being able to go back to my old feather duster again!

 

I think it goes into the underseat compartment in rear passenger side. Just a weird shape.

Yeah, stains. It is the only piece I rally didnt clean too much. Doh!
