REAR SWAY BAR 1st GEN

I'm looking to add a rear sway bar to my 2002 AC
I've seen the

$500 Hellwig 7700 Solid, Heat Treated Chromoly, 1-1/8" Rear Sway Bar

Hellwig 7700 mentioned a few times with mostly positive reviews.
-- Wondering if there are any other options out there that people have used & are happy with?
First Gen application, will be used more or less on street & some country gravel roads.

THE 7700... I have had it on 3 trucks that I have rebuilt... now on my 4th... one of THE BEST mods/upgrades you can do for a driver...

 

Thanks all — So, next question would be, Where are you guys buying them? I talked with one online seller today and they said they get them shipped from Hellwig and the lead time is weeks....I would like to get one faster than July.
Any leads?

 

I bought mine in the early winter of 2018 from gleebay for around $300ish. They are flashing up on my lower advert bar on this site for $374 right now. They’ve shot up in price.

I do remember having to wait for the order somewhere around 3 weeks. I should have ordered from Big Gurrl, who dropped their price a few days later, to $274 and had 2 day ship at the time.

None of the 1st gens came with one, did they? I'm thinking not, but if so that could be an option.

 

My 2002 came with a front bar, but no rear bar. The 2003 was the first year there was an option from factory with the rear sway.

That's a 3/4 and a 1" bar, respectively. What size is the hellwig?

 

1 1/8”. Stout.

 

So we've got 19mm, 25.4mm, and 28.57mm. Just for more info to decide, my car has 24/26mm bars f/r. Now I'm curious what size the front is...

 

Slightly larger, but getting close to your tape measure breaking point at 1 1/2”.

 

Does anyone with a rear bar from the factory have pictures of how it is attached? I just picked up a stock rear bar and want to install it but have found no pics of the rear bar mounting spots. Thanks!

Hellwig 7700. They are now $560. Almost doubled in price from 2020. Greedy bastards.

That's up for debate but there is evidence that a rear sway bar can actually have benefits. It also depends on how you use your truck.

I installed the hellwig when I was on a mission to fix my sloppy suspension and thought that was the problem. Didn't make a difference because my leafs were shot. The HD leafs made a much better improvement in highway body roll.

PHM installed them also and he liked them, but he towed a lot. I guess it comes down to your truck usage.

 

TRD optioned trucks with a swaybar have a different differential housing which has brackets welded to it to hold the sway bar.

You should be able to find and weld on a bracket that will work. I bought some weld on brackets that use universal sway bar 'D' bushings to do mine.

I installed one as well. One of the best things I've done handling wise.

 

I didn’t watch the video above but a rear sway bar will limit rear wheel articulation. That’s a no from me personally. If it’s solely a street truck, maybe.

 

You should watch the video. With the front sway bar removed but a rear SB in place, the difference in rear articulation is extremely small (.2") but he gained more travel in the front and more overall travel.
