Wow... I think Vroom values newer, lower mileage vehicles. I sold a car to them a few years back. I got a quote from them just for kicks and they came back with what would have been my lowest price selling it on CL. It was easy as pie - didn’t have to deal with all the nonsense you get on Craigslist and they came to pick it up too.

Why not enjoy a year or two with no payments then get a brand new Tundra with the twin turbo v6? You’ll have power, reliability, and fuel economy.

Haha...who knows what it will bring. I saw 2 posts last night that someone mentioned that their local dealers said they will be in the mid 60's price range.

Hell if it’s that much I’m going to hard pass on a new Tundra. Truck and SUV prices are getting out of hand. That’s one thing that makes Tundra so good you get a lot of truck for the money. I may just have to go with the Cybertruck for my next vehicle...ugly but functional, around 50k for the AWD model, and motor is good for easily a million miles.

Local dealers may be saying mid 60s to entice people to jump on the current models as "$40k's are cheap".

So, I have to tell you I love how your current truck is set up. I'd totally pay it off and see what happens on the newer ones. the 4.6 is the million mile one, right? in a year or two it will just be that much more equity you will have in it. Heck, take that 600 a month payment and put it on yours and pay it off by next spring. If a 2019 or 20 is still what you may want, there will be a lot of them around to pick from, and more data on whatever the next version will be.

If you happen to want to drive that thing to check out South Dakota, let me know. The idea of putting you on a plane home with a check for $12k sounds pretty good! There is a not as nice one for sale locally here for over 15k. I passed on it because it is black. if it was yours on the same lot, I would be strongly considering trading my 2018 CM being payment free!

    Once again, beautiful truck!

Yeah it had been a solid truck. It would be awesome if it had the 5.7 in it. I think I just got the 5.7 bug. The dealer is trying to sell me a 2020 in a bad way lol. They even offered to swap my lift and wheels over. I have so much stuff on it that would have to come off and I would rather move everything myself if I did do it. They are just too low on the trade. They just texted asking my thoughts. I haven't replied yet lol.

I’m in the same boat. Have a 2015 with 4.6 that will be paid off next month. The 4.6 actually fits my needs fine, but I really need 4 wheel drive. Considered looking at the 2020 but figured I’ll just stack up some $$$ with no truck payments for a while and wait and see what the 2022 redesign looks like. Hate to buy a 2020 and then Toyota hit it out of the park with the 4th gen and leave me wishing I had waited.

How much of a need do you have for the 5.7? Do you tow a lot? That's about the only reason i see to upgrade. You have a very nice truck, i don't really think you'd want to get into another car payment for largely the same chassis but worse MPG's. You can get way more money via private sale for that truck too, those trade values are pretty bad.

So they called again today and asked where I needed to be on trade. I told him as close to 15K as possible and both trucks for 2 days so I can swap everything over.

Holy shit, $900 doc fee? I thought out dealer's profit padder (doc fee) of $4-500 was stupid high.

Yeah it's crazy here. They want to offer 14k now bc I told them that they were too low and I needed to be closer to 15k.

It’s a buyers market for sure. What the dealers are not saying there are a lot of cars and trucks sitting on the factory lots ready to be shipped, dealers are making it look like there’s a shortage but there’s not they just stopped shipping them because of the virus. As soon as the dealers sell what’s currently on the lot they will ship more. I’ve got relatives that work at the Ford and Honda factories here in Ohio and they were telling me their lots are full of cars and trucks ready to be shipped to dealers.
Go buy yourself a nice Rock River or Daniel Defense and get a nice Sig also. It’ll be a lot cheaper in the long run. Who knows the new gen may be what your waiting for.
    Good luck

Tell them you will take $14 if they eat the doc fee. They will counter that it's illegal which is technically true, they have to charge everybody the same. So you counter with, "Then add the doc fee to your offer ($14,900) or I walk. I used that after all other negotiations on the wife's Venza a few years ago.

It worked until the douchebag finance guy tried to slip the doc fee back into the paperwork. At that point we literally got up and walked out of his office. Our sales guy ran up and caught us at the door leaving the dealer. After a few words we got a free 7/100,00 platinum warranty out of that.

Yeah I figured there were vehicles hiding somewhere lol. Now they are trying to offer 14K for mine in stock condition. The lift and wheel pkg will get moved over if I do it. I don't know if it makes sense financially. Having the bug of wanting and not needing the 5.7 is killing me lol. My 4.6 isn't even broken in yet lol. I'm not even sure what the 5.7 gets gas mileage wise with a 3 inch lift and 285/70's. Dealers says they are close lol.

Yeah dealers can be shady for sure. I just don't know if upgrading makes sense financially just to go from a 4.6 to 5.7

I know what you mean about the dealers when I got mine I got a lifetime warranty through the dealer with it and the finance guy tried to throw an extended Toyota warranty package on me. Got to watch them guys.

Whatever you do, set a price in your mind and don’t waiver. They need to sell you a truck way worse than you need to buy one. If you want $15k on your trade then so be it. Tell them “no deal” otherwise. After all it’s your money so negotiate that way.

Yeah trying to decide if I want to do the deal or not is giving me a headache. Lol. 4.6 with 95k or brand new powerful 5.7 and a little more gas expense. My lift would get moved over to the new one.

The used truck market is stronger than most people believe. A father and son team on YT are going through the used car market (Wholesale and retail) and saying COVID is making prices surge and used car lots are getting bare. I believe them, i had a bunch of used Tundras saved on my cargurus list. Most went up in price and then sold right away. They want your used truck. Id hold steady unless you can REALLY afford it or REALLY REALLY need the new truck. P.S. the gas mileage SUCKS with the 5.7 If its a daily driver, u might get buyers remorse quickly. Mine is not a daily driver, so it doesnt really hurt much. P.S.S. They are offering you 14 for your tundra because you said 15. Hold at 15.

I don't really need it. Just more available power. I don't tow anything that heavy and I drive 50 miles a day round trip for work. This is my 13 with the 4.6, 34's, and Pedal Commander. 20200520_115259.jpg

I know what you mean I get that urge every time I’m close to paying off my trucks in the past. I kept going to dealers every year after I’d pay them off and once I saw them 400-500 monthly payments I could never pull the trigger. After 14 years I finally pulled that trigger and got the Tundra.

I think you could sell it privately very easily; it’s actually a lot less hassle and takes about 15 minutes if the person has already test drove it and are ready to meet you at the bank.

Yeah they are trying to get 14K on trade so they can sell me a truck. I would love to have the 5.7 but it's not necessary as I dont pull that much weight. The gas mileage replies from everyone vary of course. The 5.7 would have the same 3 inch lift and 34s that I have now. I just dont know if its financially feasible to upgrade.

If all other things are pretty much equal, +30k is a lot for an engine.. Like you said, that 4.6 is just getting broken in. For what its worth, I have a 2018 Crewmax Limited with 50k miles. If I had a chance to swap to a '14 set up like yours with 100k miles and only owe 5k, I'd do it faster than you can believe... No TSS!!

It sounds like you have them working on it though. I looked online last night and saw several that are listed for low 20k's on dealer lots that are similar miles and year. They can come up a bit more if you have convinced yourself that you need it.

Yeah that's the main issue...its more of a want the power than need it lol. As I mentioned earlier, gas mileage with the 5.7 varies from each member, and it would have the lift and tires as well. I think.im only getting an average of 14 to 15 in the 4.6 with the lift setup.
