What code reader do you all use? I'd like to get one. Don't really need one, just want to be able to see what's going on before taking it in (no codes now, just shopping). I'm not a mechanic by any stretch of the imagination, so a really expensive one isn't needed.

I purchased an Actron CP9695 when it was $200... it's now priced at $360.

Man, I just visited Amazon...geez...there is a ton. Are any manufacturers better than others? Or at any given price point are they comparable?

    Thanks

It's a crap shoot. I did a little research, and mine had great reviews. It does what it's supposed to do, read and erase. I'm not a mechanic either, thats why this one is all I need. Good luck:cool:

I use this and Torque Pro on my phone ($5). It's basic and decent. For more extensive diagnostics, I have tech stream on my wife's laptop.

With the COVID stuff and auto parts stores not reading codes, I picked up a low-end Autel code reader from Autozone to read a code on the wife's Odyssey. Works well, and cleared the codes. Pretty basic. Won't clear airbag codes or TPMS codes (other than what the van can do itself)

    I bought one of these.
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015GMRZH2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This model is unavailable, but Amazon shows others. If you get one that does WIFI or Bluetooth, make sure it has an on/off switch. I tried a couple of others and the little transmitters burned out fairly quickly. If you use an Iphone, I recommend Dash Command software. https://www.palmerperformance.com/products/dashcommand/
Dash command lets you log on to the ODBII connection on the car and get the codes along with other performance data. The check engine came on in my previous vehicle when we were on our way to the McDonald observatory. We were deep in the middle of nowhere. I turned on the ODBII connector, handed the phone to my wife, and she looked up the code while we cut down on the miles between us and civilization. It wasn't anything that would end our trip or leave us stranded, but it was sure nice to be able to find that out immediately.

I got a cheap Centech from Harbor Freight about 3 years ago. It pulls ABS codes also.
