Hey all! I have been loosely looking at Tundras for almost 6 months, and finally ready to get more serious. I am a huge Toyota fan, currently have a 4th gen 4runner that I may be selling.
I had my search narrowed down to the 3rd gens 2014+, but recently thinking I'd like to save some money...so a 2nd gen has become an option. I'd like to be below 25,000.
My requirements are crew max, 4x4, sunroof, and under 80,000 miles. I may need to open that up some, depending on what's available.
This one caught my eye....but seems over priced based off of KBB, Tmv etc. What do you think?

Looks like a winner for what you're looking for!
Seems like you could get them to knock a few thousand off that price. I know these hold their value, but this dealer looks a bit high.
    Keep us posted!

Compare NADA values with KBB, and have the truck checked by a mechanic you trust (not the seller) - do this BEFORE you buy. Good luck!

If you take trips with your truck, see my recent thread here in general about challenges going from 4Runner life to Tundra life.

You will need lots of add-ons for the Tundra to have enough space and versatility for trips, imho.... My needed mods list got real long today when I got home from the OBX after our first Tundra road trip.

Also I would buy the newest year tundra you can afford with the options you want. Rust is real, age also wears things out. But I also am not a fan of the 2nd gen front end really lol.

Just read through your thread, great points! This is exactly why I am looking at the crew max only...for the extra interior space. I do love the 2014+ refresh , but will have to be at the right price.

Thanks! It does seem a few thousand over priced. I'll see what the dealer says. A clean, low mileage gen2 saves money = more money for mods :D
At a certain price point, I might as well get a 3rd gen. Finding one with a sunroof is proving challenging near $25k. They seem to be more common $28k +.

I'm not sure if pricing is way different in your area of the country, but I'd almost say that truck is a bit underpriced, being a one-owner with low miles for the year. It would almost make me suspect something is wrong with it--just remember "No Accidents Reported to Carfax" means just what it says. I've checked out used cars at dealers with "clean" Carfax reports that had obviously been in some sort of accident and had body work done to it. But, if it all checks out, I definitely would not hesitate buying that! Good luck

Thanks! It may also be where the market for these has priced them above what the various guides say (KBB,nada, Tmv). NADA seems highest at 23900. All average out to about 22500....which seems like a fair price. Going tomorrow to check it out. I'll post an update on it after seeing it.

I was looking as this Covid stuff was ramping up. I even checked two out in person in MO, looking at the rust angle. The one was fairly good, didn’t care as much for the sales office, never got serious.

The 2nd in MO was bought at auction out of NY, no-go from the start.

The one we bought(2013) was from Rockford, much better condition, O.K., price. It spent it’s life in N IL, but was taken care of, so you never know.

Bring it to a Toyota dealer to have it checked. Usually around $125 and the report is quite comprehensive down to the millimeters of the brake pads. Here is one that you may want to consider:

They may even have a "deal" for you to get the business and take it away from the other dealer.

Went to look and drive the truck last night. It far exceeded my expectations. With the exception of a few paint swirl spots from brush car washes, it was immaculate. A few surface rust spots along the frame, but the previous owner was meticulous about doing oil spray treatment for the inside of the frame rails. It has Stone guard coating along the bottom of the doors. No signs of a cam tower leak. It has the 1794 20" wheels on it with new Duratrac tires. Definitely something I'd want to sell (hopefully there's a market for them). The dealer came down a little bit. I don't think I'm going to find a cleaner , same mileage truck for the price.

Do you like keeping your truck clean looking?

Black is a part time job...

Yes, I own a black truck.

Some good options here, did a search within 200 miles of this dealerships zip code.
Some listings are beyond 200 miles.....

I drove, and was willing to drive, 350 miles one way to find the right used truck for me, but I was also trading in the rusty white 2011 Limited 4Runner I drove there, so was able to do it all alone. 1 way rental car also works if your not trading anything in. Did that to go buy the 4Runner, cost me like $45 plus small gas in little cheap rental car.

    My old 4Runner is black.

Never will I own another black vehicle, I don't care how cool they look.
The heat sucks in the summer, rots the dash, destroys the electricals like power door locks, power windows, and radio.

My white Tundra averages almost 30 degrees cooler in direct sunlight all day then my black 4Runner.
Being able to breath when you get in the truck matters lol.
    I live in Norther Va.

Buy what makes you happy though
