Cool! My family has had one house or another down there since the mid 60's. It's in my blood. I sold my last place up the river at Selkirk Island about 6 years ago. I just found another one I'm considering buying last week. I miss being down there.

That's sick man small world! Crazy how much has closed down there, no more riverbend or even snappers which sucked anyways. I'd be down to go out there even for the day with some Tundra folk if anyone is ever down! The guys on ih8mud used to do a beach camping trip out there every year it was pretty cool.

Looks like your a realtor, im an active agent but I don't use it really unless helping out friends/family...Do you use har for searching properties down there typically?

Hello all seeking some advice from you guys, I'm seeking a job transfer to the Houston area, any insight on good areas to go house hunting besides what I find on google.... Looking to rent my first year and hopefully buy after.

My suggestion is get a place as close to work as possible. Once things are back to normal, traffic is a killer here

Depends on your budget and what kind of atmosphere you'd like to live in. If you're looking for something in the suburbs, I'd start with Cypress and Katy areas, maybe even Richmond, and start moving in towards the city. If you like the city life, maybe look at the Heights (either section), Washington area, downtown/Midtown (if you can afford it).

I grew up in the westside so I'm partial to that area.

I'm currently in Nor Cal, Bay area more specifically, and believe me I'm tired of city life... I will take that advice and hunt in the Cypress, Katy and Richmond areas... Have heard good things from those areas...

Yeah housing down here is definitely cheaper than the Bay area. If you don't mind too much of a drive into the city, you could also look in the Spring/Tomball area. Also, they are starting to develop a lot of neighborhoods along the 99/Grand Pkwy corridor in the Katy/Cypress/Spring areas...so keep that in mind if you want a newer home.

I'd add Sugar Land to your list. Of course, depends where work is and what kind of commute you are willing to put up with - that goes for pretty much any area down here though...

I retired about 5 years ago, still an agent but put my license on inactive a few years back. Paid all our daughters fees an trained her, so I use her as an agent for free now...LOL

HAR has quite a few listings for down there, but there are some mom and pop agencies down there still that aren't on the HAR radar in and around Bay City.

I'm going down to look at the place below on Tuesday. It's not for everyone due to the $875/month maintenance charge. It's a great spot though on a 24 acre island that only has about 13 or 14 houses. It's right across the river from Selkirk and on the back side of the water is all So Tx Nuclear plant land all the way to the ICW.

Haha! Thats the right way to do it! Very cool spot! Seems secluded away from the other properties around it. I searched HAR last week when we started this conversation and low n behold the house and one if its lots in which I grew up in is for sale. 00 Beachfront Dr.

Yeah... the newer houses on Beach Rd are crazy expensive now and the traffic and theft in the hot months is terrible. It ain't what it used to be... where thieves had to worry about getting shot. Plus, I have a labrador and a brittany that go where I go usually. Just too much traffic and most of the lots are too small. Plus, I spend a lot of time going up the river to jug-line for big blue and yellow cats in the hot months. It's a blast! I pretty much just wade the bays in the winter looking for big gals now... Anywhere from Matty to Riviera.

Looking to trade tire/wheel setups. Conroe area.
    Here is what I have:
    35x12.5x20 Kumho Road Venture MT
20x10 -18 KMC FMJ wheels in excellent condition

You would need to have same size tires on 17" or 18" wheels. Prefer 17". TPMS sensors must work and condition must be excellent. I would like to stay away from all black as I'm looking for something different. TIA!

Hi fellow Houstonians! Does anyone have a recommendation on auto upholstery shop? Preferably in Katy area but willing to drive if needed. I need to get leather seat redone. Has anyone done it before? What is average cost for one driver seat? Thank you

Thinking about getting my chrome bumpers sandblasted and powdercoated. Has anyone had this done? Flawless Powder Coating quoted me $175 + tax for this. They did caution that its possible the powder might bubble during the curing process.

Anyone here in the Houston area good with body work and paint? Need to replace a bedside passenger fender and paint it. Would like to do paint correction on the entire truck as well. I live in Houston part time so I'm here alot. Can provide gumbo, beer, and money

Or are there any body shops yall recommend that won't charge me an arm and a leg?

I need some work done also. Had a quote from a local body shop that is highly recommended on our neighborhood facebook page. Quote is expired, but heres the details.

Quote was $1325 to repair/repaint front passenger door (about a 12" dent/slash; no rust) and passenger side of bed (4" scratch/dent and scratches on fender flare). Showed 9hrs body labor and 8.5hrs paint labor @ $46/hr and 8.5hrs paint supplies @ $32/hr. This was about a 1/3 of what the dealership's body shop wanted. That's for Lev's in Richmond. Not sure what area of Houston you are in.

That seems like a reasonable price. I'm in the west part of Houston near Katy. But willing to drive anywhere in Houston for a good deal. I'll give them a call
