If I had the V8, I'd be all over it.

    I did find a rust-free donor truck...20200610_070316.jpg 20200610_070335.jpg 20200610_070409.jpg 20200610_070440.jpg 20200610_070306.jpg

Blue is somewhat of a lowered portion (when bed is right side up), and red is a lowered portion also to create a mating surface to frame.

I do not think I could cut these out, remove old material, and weld them back in efficiently enough.

Thoughts about just a simple flat plate?

I don’t like using Bedliner in the undercarriage because as soon as it gets a crack or chip, it will trap moisture behind it and will make things even worse.

It’s fantastic from the outside. Underwhelming from the inside. Inside the cab the side pipe was way better. It was clearer sounding.

I tried many different LED's and was never satisfied, HID retrofit has been amazing and very worth it. I did the morimoto H1, but if I did it again, I'd go d2s and use the generic brands. Everything I've seen lately is they are just as good and so much cheaper. Southpaw does the whole thing with new housings for $350 I believe. If I ever buy a vehicle without modern lighting, that's the first thing I'll do. (And the baking thing was really easy and kind of fun, I actually did it during a work conference call during quarantine).

I can honesty say if I had to pick between my Milwaukee impact wrench and the HID, I'd get a second job so I could get both!

Just found out my ‘2’ button is broken on my stove and can’t program it for the magical required 240° bake temp on the headlight assys. :annoyed:

Might just try it with 199° and then heat gun the backside of the reflector for a boost to the goo. :bananadead::yes:

I did 220 for 10 minutes and it wasn't enough so did it for 18 minute and that was perfect, so 199 for longer is probably safer anyway.

Cool! Might do 199° for 30 minutes. I’ll then heat gun the reflector backside if needed.

Your mainly wanting to heat gun the edge where they seal together, you can work your way around the headlight prying and heating as you go around. In your oven place the light on a piece of cardboard, you don’t want any metal touching the housing

I recently baked some MTB brake pads in our toaster oven. My wife is small, yet crafty and mighty...so I advised her of my plan in advance.
I wouldn't say I'm afraid of her, but I would absolutely 100% commit to saying I respect the danger she can pose if properly motivated.

Pressure washed the inside of the bed to fully inspect the rust. Even with the holes in the two middle ones that I can lay hands, and eyes on easily... tapping on them with a hammer still results in a metal sound instead of a crunchy, rotted mess. Not what I was expecting. Still going to see about welding in new through-tubes.

    20200610_134453.jpg 20200610_134504.jpg 20200610_134627.jpg

I was going to cut the old ones out today...

    but I thought about it.

I do not know for 100% that I will have permission to use the facilities. So I elected to wait until I know for certain. I may not like it knowing its there, but at least I can still use my bed as it is right now.

If I cut them out, and they say no I'm fucked unless I friction fit them.

Success! Put the oven on 199° for about 30 minutes and then baked the assys for about 30 minutes. Turned her up to 350° for the last couple minutes for a bake down and then turned it off. Used that breaker bar with some paper towels taped up for scratch protection and pushed through the hole. Went very easy.

Do a tension fit. You should be ok after the bolts go on because it will be holding downward pressure. Maybe use some Fuzeit to hold the tube in place (let it dry) before setting the bed. The Fuzeit will keep the metal from chattering around, too.

That does eliminate a lot of problems I have...

Fred, I bought some El Cheap-o O-rings to go under the washer that comes with new bed bolts.

Whats your thoughts on that? Can't hurt, right?

Keith @dirtydeeds is awesome to work with. Super helpful. I enjoy my 12 x 5 so much that I ordered the 16 x 5 for my girlfriends 06 4.7 4Runner. Should be here any day now. I noticed I regained all of my lost torque & power from the Magnaflow series 40 Delta Force. I love the way it sounds on my truck now. For anyone looking to do his "budget system", it works best if you have the factory OEM tailpipe still. I had to round one up because I did away with mine and they are not cheap. You have to cut the tailpipe off of the muffler assembly and clamp/weld it to his exhaust/muffler.

I like those Morimotos Bi-LED 2.0. They cost more than HID, but in the end are about the same once you add all the HID accessories.

These 2.0 are inline with the dS2 performance per Morimoto Review. Just less wires and easier install.

I just bought my first truck a few weeks ago, an 06 DC SR5 with 50K miles. I live in IL and the rust wasn't too terrible (for IL anyway), but I'm paranoid about rust so I spent the first two weeks of truck ownership with it on stands going over every inch under the truck with a needle scaler and a wire wheel. Anywhere with surface rust got treated with corroseal and painted, then I gave the frame rails a good grease rub and hit everything else with woolwax. Hopefully that will help fend off any future rust20200509_142702_HDR.jpg 20200522_124318_HDR.jpg 20200525_114902_HDR.jpg
