UT has big open spaces, mountains and plenty of parks and outdoor activities. Yellowstone is drive-able distance too. Good minded people too.

Georgia be :bananadead: but nice coastal towns. Good fishing and don't forget the Peaches. Utah isn't that where the men are men and the sheep are nervous :D just kidding, that's beautiful land out there.

Savannah has a few blocks downtown that are historic and nice. Other than that little area, it is hot, full of humidity and mosquitos. Toss in some hurricanes every once and awhile, a military base, some real questionable neighborhoods and well, there ya go. Charleston SC calls Savannah it’s dirty little sister.

SLC is the one place in Utah that you will find a higher rate of crime and city issues than anywhere else in the entire state. But at least the weather is better there year round compared to Savannah. Additionally, you can drive to mountains and national parks in hours but in savannah you better like pine trees for days and days.

Out of those two I would go Utah and SLC every time over Savannah.

...well...somewhere in northwestern Wyoming would be nice. Colorado is just not to my liking anymore.

I have become pretty enchanted with the Bozeman area myself!

Few of the big city bad habits but big enough to get things done and crazy beautiful too!

I have yet to find any place in Ga. that I would try and SLC is too big for my good too.

    But thats just me.

NW Wyoming is a mini colorado/california, just so you are warned. It's beautiful, but it's also the highest cost of living part of the state.

To OP: I can't speak to GA, but I know SLC a bit. SLC is estimated to be about 10 years behind housing demands because their economy has been extremely strong for a very long time. Do your research on where (which city) in the Salt Lake Valley you want to live in. I would recommend staying out of West Valley City, and anything West of I-15, as those are pretty gang/crime filled. That side of town is cheaper for a reason. Also, read up on the inversions there. If you or anyone in your family have asthma or respiratory issues then that is going to be a major hardship.

Don't need to be warned. Actually north of Cody towards Powell is quite nice. Livability index #'s are quite good. Cost of living is very affordable. Average mortgage is $700's and house rent around $630. Done my homework already. Low population and growth. Somewhat boring. Perfect. Nothing like Jackson Hole area. That would be nutz.....

Lol. Yeah, if boring is what you want, then Wyoming is the place. It's at boring or as exciting as you want it to be. It may be early, but, Welcome to Wyoming!

I vote Utah, Albuquerque, or Boise. We were debating over Phoenix, Denver, Albuquerque or Boise. We're here in Denver now. We moved out of the South. Didn't like it at all.

I don't know much about MT. One other thing for Wyoming, we have California level vehicle registration prices. My Tundra is coming up on it's first renewal, and it's going to be over $600.

Low cost of living around Cody would more than offset the high cost here in Denver Metro area. It's becoming crazy. I've got cousins in Georgia. Not for me. Too hot and humid for my liking. Utah over Georgia for my vote.

so you can go anywhere in this country and Utah and Georgia are what you came up with huh?

I mean, those are pretty opposite. What is it that you don’t like about Colorado? There’s some places that might be more middle ground between those two. For instance you can get coastline and actual mountains in Oregon instead of choosing one or the other. You can get middle of the road weather there as well instead of picking between miserable god awful summers or miserable god awful winters.

The cost of living in general, and housing in particular, is astronomical in SLC right now. Even in the suburbs it's crazy. I live in a fairly rural area and the median home value has almost doubled in the last 10 years. It's obscene.

That said it's amazing here, with a high standard of living, highly education population, beautiful geography and lots of things to do if you like the outdoors.

You are leaving political climate out of your choices. Some do not want to live in Oregon or Colorado for the same reasons they do not want to live in California. That's as much as I can say without risking a banhammer on my head.

Utah is a beautiful state for outdoorsy things unless ocean fishing is your thing. I would think Georgia would have a better job market but that's a guess.

I spent my working career in Texas and California (mostly Texas). I built my retirement home in Colorado. Texas is hard to beat for work, raising kids, homes, taxes, ......California sucks for a working family unless you have specialized skills and a huge income. Based on the work you and your wife do, you're gonna need to do your homework on this. Follow the money.
