    Hey all,

I purchased a 2019 trd pro at the end of February but due to the fuel pump recall I was unable to take ownership until they Have a fix for it. Talking with the dealership this week and they’ve said that Toyota Canada does not anticipate a fix for at least two more months.

I asked them to work out a deal on a 2020 platinum for me to compare to what I paid for the 2019 trd pro. With both vehicles being pretty much on par with each other what would you guys do??

do you think all the extra bells and whistles in the platinum from 2020 are worth it over the 2019 pro?

Let me hear what you think! Thanks everyone

That is really up to you and what you want/need.

Even being a 2020, the Platinum should be cheaper than a TRD Pro..

Not sure how it is in Canada but in the US, 4x4 Platinums are usually $4-5k cheaper than Pros after discounts

Yeah, the difference is the year though in this case, a 2020 trd pro vs the 2019 I purchased is a huge discount.

I feel like that is the route I’ll end up taking... I like all of the features the 2020 has over the 2019 pro... I use my truck to haul tools for work and it’s primarily highway driving for me. Not a ton of dirt roads as the majority of my work is in Toronto.

I like the platinum, but you have to decide, you are the one driving it everyday. (Now I am not putting down any truck ) to me the Pro is the same as the SR5 with a few extras features, not worth $77,000 + GST in Canada for me.

That’s a great way to describe it. There seems to be a lot more going for the 2020 platinum over the 2019 trd pro...

I just got a 2020 Platinum and love it coming from an 18 limited. The JBL is tuned way better, bigger screen and it also is much nicer than before, the leather is very good quality, the seats are extremely comfortable, and the push button start and smart keyless entry is really growing on me in a big way. Power folding and tinted side mirrors with turn signals, ventilated seats, and no more antenna. You also get more USB ports, Apple Car play, and don’t forget you can’t get Front and rear sonars, blind spot warning, and rear cross traffics detection when you back up on A Pro. My sticker was 55 which is the exact same as a 2020 Pro. If I had to choose between a 2020 Platinum vs a 2019 Pro it’s no contest....unless your really heavy into off-roading

Sounds like a nice truck. IMO even if you are into off-roading, buy the Platinum and then put real/better aftermarket upgrades on it for off-roading than what comes with the PRO.

I would get the 2020 Platinum but ask them to throw in a TRD pro grill for the troubles.

The TRD is a really nice truck, it’s my favorite as far as aesthetics go. It just looks badass with the color matched bumpers and embossed emblem on the side of the deck.

That being said I think it’s the most overpriced tundra out of all of them. They added some paint and just a pinch of “performance parts” And raised the price to that of A tundra that is fully loaded with leather and all the bells and whistle’s. To me in the platinum is well worth the money

It sounds like you don’t need the pro for the purpose built features it has. (off road it performs extremely well)
Many reviewers have said that the pro ride on pavement is smoother than every other model. Maybe that’s a factor.
Another factor to consider may be ‘long term value’. If you plan to keep the truck for 5 or more years, the value of the pro will probably hold higher value longer. The more years you keep the pro, the more the value difference will increase.

    - What purpose built features? Different shocks? cuz that is all it has that would help it perform better than the other models off road. It even comes with the same passenger rated tires as the other models. There are no other features that the PRO has that helps with performance off road other than the suspension. All the other features are basically for appearance beside the skid plate...but a skid plate doesn't help off road performance.

    - Yes it has better shocks as mentioned so it will ride better on road.

    - I agree, if you are going to trade the vehicle in two years....buy a PRO. If you are going to keep the vehicle for a long time, or mod the vehicle (different suspension, etc)...buy a different model.

Yeah, when you look over everything that comes on the platinum you are right...
The only big thing I guess that I like more on the pro is the way it looks but that can change easily enough

Waiting to hear from the manager today to go over final numbers so I guess it’s just a waiting game now.

Our pros have the blind spot monitoring, rear sonar as well as heated seats up here so those are on the 2019

2020 all the way with all the few upgrades it has over the 2019. I hate to say it but value wise, you're better off buying a 2020. Doesn't the TRD PRO comes with high interest compare the Platinum?

Either way, it will be a great choice and I've read all the comments, maybe the guys on top are right. The value of a Pro might hold on for longer!

    Good Luck

I haven't looked at current models but my 2014 1794 non trd had crap black shocks all around. At 54k miles I'm 2nd owner. Very bouncy and soft, moves to much, like a boat or old Cadillac lol. After putting Bilstein 6112 and 5160s it rides the way it should have from the factory. Firm, forgiving, controlled, rides awesome now!

Also non pro has less ride height, so not as good off road.

Also no platinum for me, black interior is awful for places with real summer. In Canada your probly fine though lol.

My 98 4runner is a black Sr5. Super hot in the summer even with tan cloth seats. Never have another dark color vehicle, or interior in my area with real summers. It's just awful and rots the electronics and dash much faster from heat damage. Power door locks and windows go bad often in black vehicles because of the heat.

My tired brain read the title as " 2019 trd pro or 2020 platinum or both" and I said "obviously both."

My vote is for the platinum. Way more features and you could always lift it and change the suspension later.

I would get the platinum. You can easily add all the "features" of the Pro, and save money up front and get more creature comforts. In regards to actual performance there's nothing the Pro has that a basic lift won't give you.
