Another thing to consider is that this frame has not been touched in 18 years.

I have driven to Ohio, and Virginia during the winter time. Gotta keep that in mind also.

In 2009 we had the ice storm. LOTS of salt was used in that one event.

Edit: just saw your plan question.

My plan is this. Use the bumper mount as a test bed to see how the ospho does because I've never used it before.

Some spots I went down to bare metal, some spots I just took the surface rust off, and some stops I didn't touch.

Brush on the ospho, and retire parts to the camper for at least 24 hours to "cure" per directions. I may leave longer because we have 60% humidity.

Remove, and then spray Rust-oleum rusty metal primer, and then spray Rust-oleum semi-gloss black as a top coat.

    @FirstGenVol

Once all the paint is dry it will be time for grease rub.

Attempted to beat out my big ole dent.
    20200608_113745.jpg

    Here is the results.
    20200608_114809.jpg
    20200608_114814.jpg
    20200608_145111.jpg 20200608_145121.jpg 20200608_145131.jpg

Laid a 12 inch section of 2X4 down that I had kinda eyeballed the shape on. Beat it in with an axe, while bumper was laying on a rubber mat.

    What do you guys think?

I should have left it alone, eh?

I ordered a new chrome bumper, thought it was going to be a quick job. One of the bolts was extremely rusted and I ended up snapping it off. Took me way too long to get it out. When I got to the rear support under the bumper it was completely rusted to the point where I am sure it wasn’t safe. I took a different route and just ordered a new one, they were only about 100bucks. The frame is extremely clean though, does anyone know if they replace the frame, do they do the rear support?

@MartyE12345 This job in particular was not about saving the rear bumper support but more about seeing the best way to apply ospho.

If I mess up the support I can replace that. Can't replace the frame that easy.

That is my thought process anyway.

Testing the waters with the bumper support.

Could not get the rusted studs to come out for the life of me.

I have new 12X1.25 MM nylock nuts and fender washers to go in their place when I put the bed on.

Edit: not sure how I will do the ones in the middle. Both are rusted solid.

Sprayed pb blast all over all of my suspension bolts. I dont think ill be replacing them till next year or longer, but god damn everything has some decent rust on it, so I'm going to keep spraying it like once every other week or so for a long ass time. This truck is from Massachusetts, and now is living in illinois. Rust is pretty damn bad on a few spots, but the frame is good.

Spray that entire frame while you are at it. She’ll love you for it.

I'm thinking I made the right choice by just completely removing the ones I can't budge. Obviously the two that didn't break, or rust through will be left alone.

I'm going to convince myself that this is the best course of action anyway. Sure looks like that now that I can see everything in the daylight at least.

I sprayed the entire frame in march, bought about 5 cans of fluid film. It stayed on only in certain areas. Pretty much only inside the frame rails and shit. So the other day i touched up all important bolts, brake like brackets, my rusted to shit rear pumpkin, spare tire thingy twist thing. Etc. Will buy one or two more cans, then spray again until the fall where i buy 5 gallons of woolwax and an air gun. Does some rust occur in the summer too?

I was creeping through old threads, and you claimed to spray the frame with pb blast through any place u can on the frame. Why so? Is it effective against rust like fluid flilm?

Took a 5 State Tour into the Bastion this past week trying to catch the Corona without a mask, but so far failed. Truck seems to really like the all new o2 Sensors (All 4) in terms of MPG. I’ll post results up after the next fill up.

Bad news report: My Katanas are failing after 14 months. Specifically, the passenger side inboard side of the LED is dead leaving the light at half power on Low Beam. High Beam works fine.

I’ve decided to disable the DTR Lights Connector in order to save the future LEDs. I’ll order another set of Katanas in the meantime which I hate doing due to made in China. Can’t find any made in USA that work with DTR systems.

I researched the heck out of Morimoto Bi-LED 2.0 Projectors and really like the simplicity of them, but the whole $500 plus baking the lens cover off thing is a deterring factor. Not scared, but not really up for all that work at the same time.

Received the axle seals for the passenger side and pre-gamed the attack. Hoping I can bust those 4 hub nuts with a 3/8” Ratchet and cheater pipe, as Momba Impact won’t fit. Got enough miles on the driver side stealer repair bow to see if their 3rd repair job is holding. This week will determine if I need to go into therapy or not. :D

Read the PB Blast can. It penetrates rust. Our frames need that penetration especially up on the front c-frame portions where the metal overlaps and can cause rust. The PB serves the deal where other just lay up. Use the straw and stick it in the punched frame squares or anywhere the frame overlaps. Soak the crap out of it a little at a time. Doesn’t take much.

I hear thunder off in the distance. It hasn't rained a drop here in 2 weeks. The second day I have my bed off, and start making good head way crystalbal blows through.

I'm a thunder-boomer for sure through, and through. Seems like I'm always racing the rain.

The rain has Effed me pretty hard in the desert. It usually never happens, and when it does, IT DOES! only one “life threatening“ time, but my Eagle Scout know how kept my friends and I safe; we were in a series of slot canyons; in huge water drainage basin for the area, haha it was intense! And then it’s put a thorn in a lot of recent camping trips, adapt and learn

Re-checked torque on the rear shocks.

Driver shock at axle was 2 full revolutions from 64 ft. Lbs.

Passenger shock at axle was 1 full revolution from 64 ft. Lbs.

I wasn't really sure how to do the frame mount when we installed them, and still honestly don't know. The 5mm Allen obviously won't go through the socket or wrench. 15 ft. Lbs is easy enough to achieve so I'm not THAT worried about it.

That might be a good investment.

Yeah their reasoning for wanting to leave was dumb(girlfriends) and there was literally no way we would have had ankles after the hike thru the slot canyons to get out haha. One of the friends, and I had just recently “survived” a bear incident haha so he was ruined on camping till this day, haha says he will come but then bails last minute Larry

I know a guy like that. Except he was never injured to begin with. He woke up in his sleeping bag with a 3 foot corn snake cuddled up next to him. He said, and I quote.

"Fuck this, fuck you, I'm leaving" he then called his mom, and we all cooked breakfast on the fire, and we fed him. Gigantic sour puss. He waited 4 hours for her to show up.

We offered to help him load his gear. He said naw, I got it.

Grabbed everything but his sleeping bag, and threw it in his moms car. He literally threw it.

He broke the back glass out of her camry wagon. (Always loved those.)

We watched his momma turn from a sweet lady into the devil. She grabbed him by the ear, spun his little ass around, pulled his pants down for all the world to see and went to smacking. I had no idea skin could get that red.

That was one of my last adventures with the scouts. Cole, and I were roughly 14-15.

After that he would always bail also. Eventually fizzled out of scouts from what I'd heard.

Sounds like fun. I wished I had friends that enjoyed the same things as me. Its hard to find anyone here locally that still likes to camp without breaking out the "Glamper."

Thats not camping. Thats glamping. You set up your camper, and wheel out your 72" flat-screen in your ac, and think your camping?

Sorry, step back down off your soapbox like I will right now.

That man has some serious furr going on. Y'all seen a squatch before? I think you got one on film
