What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I went into SDHQ probably 3 years ago to ask about future first gens and they took my number to call me back to use my truck... yup been three years and still haven’t gotten that call back.
Go with Hot Metal Fab. Super low profile. Rago Fab also makes some nice ones

 

My center carrier bearing arrived yesterday. Going to tackle that and replace all my soft brake hoses with SS this week.

anyone have a write up or tips for the center carrier bearing? Any special tools I should grab before I start?

 

Prep work for rear leaf job tomorrow. I have several other things to do now because of this, but it will be worth it to treat my frame.



The frame is much cleaner, and the pressure washer knocked out a lot of scale. In the 100° heat today it dried in about 15 minutes.

May look into an EBAY special bumper. Mine has a BIG OLE dent in it from when I slid into a stump.

The spare tire lift. Its crusty, but still works. Would you guys go through the trouble of wiring wheeling this or just get a new one?

Also, discovered the jam nut for parking break levers on the "lift bolt" had vibrated loose. I ran them down hand tight, and then snugged them with a wrench.

Fun Day! Finally pulled the bid for the swap from the parts truck. Gonna treat some rust on the new bed, install my new spare tire mount, and give the frame a coating of fluid film.



merit: yes I strapped taillights on because I did all this at my parents house and still needed to get home.

It had only been here a day, I usually get here as soon as Tundras/Sequoias arrive as I check their postings. Aka I'm the guy to ask for small to medium used parts.

 

I'd just replace it. Probably in the same condition inside.
Is now the time to replace your Charcoal Canister while it's easy?
PHM had info on cleaning the rear window track/drains. Now it would be easy for you. Probably details on his build page.
Maybe put some LED bulbs in your cargo light while you're at the back window. Regular bulbs seem to burn the housing.

Got bored after filetting some fish (how ever u spell it). So went out and bought two cans of fluid film and fluid filmed the shit out of any bolt i fan forsee being removed in the next few years. My oil and tranny pan bolts are in baaad shape

 

Now is the perfect time to get some woolwax and drench that frame

 

Leds are already up there.

Definitely change it while the bed is off. I changed mine from under the truck and it was a royal pain in the ass! I used this one...works fine:

Or you could just get a Ford F-150 bumper like the one I got at the scrapyard. I think it looks beefier, I'm never worried about it getting damaged since it was only $10, and I lucked out on the color.

The Stock Worshippers might martyr you since it's not OEM though.

How far out is the end of the bumper from the outer edges of the body?

If it sticks out a ways the last thing I need is a deer to side swipe me at 55 mph and it catches on the little overhang as it rolls down the side of my truck and peel half my bumper off...

 

There's a few videos on Youtube, but honestly it's a really easy job. You don't need any special tools, just a couple of 14mm wrenches.

Wanted to practice wire wheel, and ospho technique on a substantial piece, but something replaceable. I want to make sure I get the frame right.

I'm actually not sure what year Ford it was from, but yeah that sounds about right. I only had to cut little notches to fit around the Toyota mount. Let me know if you do go through it with it and need some pictures for reference.

I am experimenting with how clean the frame needs to be. Some spots were not touched by a wire wheel, some just had the surface rust knocked off, and same are so clean you could eat off of it.

Question for those who have done the ospho...

Is the metal supposed to fizz like peroxide on a cut?

That is oddly therapeutic to look at. I'm really surprised you have that much rust in KY. You must get more salt than I realized? We only get it 1-2 times a year here in TN.
What exactly is your plan once you get all the rust off?
