Spray or replace entire grille assembly?

Looking to replace the entire chrome grille assembly and trim with all satin black option. Any recommendations? Spray it black or purchase?

 

If painting i recommend getting all the chrome off some how i got mine painted but they went over the chrome and what do you know I scratched it like 6 months later so in a few spots chrome is showing threw . Now I may just wrap it.

When I had a second gen, I sprayed the whole center section. Lasted the 6 years I owned it.

I just asked my dealer if they could come close to Sparks price of $177.95. I got a brand new grill with tax for $199 from my dealer.

 

Never thought to ask the dealer. Good advice.

 

I told my dealer that I bring my truck here for service and I would prefer to spend my money locally.

Tell me about your fog lights. That’s on the radar too.

 

Baja Designs XL Sport. They're a several years old so I think the new ones are a bit brighter. Having said that, they're pretty darn bright and do what I need then to do.

It took a bit of effort to fit them in down there though. Lots of heat gun work to get the plastic buckets to fit around them half way decent. They do make some round ones now that might fit a bit better. Mine are pretty much square with rounded corners.

 

Replace it or get it done professionally, IMO.

 

When you go to take your grill off.

Take the bolts out of the bottom of the hood latch, not the screws on the front.

Don't forget to try and sell it on Craigslist or market place.

 

Too bad I can't get one in Barcelona Red for my 13. @Roman, why did they not offer the painted surround for the Barcelonas?

Nice. I have to strip and try repainting mine. It sucks that Barcelona was not available. I scuffed and sanded the chrome and painted mine a couple of years ago but it is all cracked now. I'll strip it and try adhesion promoter.

 

The grill I ordered was for the Rock Warrior Edition, which color matched the grill and front bumper. Colors offered for the Rock Warrior were Black, Radiant Red, Magnetic Gray Metallic or Super White.

Maybe there was some other trim package that would work on your truck that offered a Barcelona Red grill? @Roman would know.

 

Unfortunately ,there was no grille for the second gen offered in Barcelona red. Best bet is to grab a black one, and have it painted locally.

 

I went with this matte black EAG grille. Although the grill is made for the 2010 - 2013 tundra, I had to fabricate some brackets since mine is a 08. I think it turned out great! Got the amber lights wired up and slapped on a Toyota emblem thats originally for an fj cruiser

 

Where’d you put the amber lights? Fogs???

 

There are 3 amber lights built into the grille. Kinda hard to see from picture

 

Looking for amber fog lights. Got to be halogen tho...I think - 2013.

 

Man that looks really sharp. What bumper did you have. Is the grill pretty solid?

 

The bumper is a nfab mrds front bumper and the grill is very solid with the right brackets. Definitely recommend it.
