Yeah I've heard great things about Gullo. My wife teaches in Magnolia ISD and Gullo is a major contributor to their district.

My supervisor’s wife worked for both Toyota dealerships in Colorado Springs (Larry H Miller) and she went back to being a paralegal at a big firm.

Only thing she said was “I thought lawyers were crooks until I went to sales at dealerships.”

I don’t blame them for trying to get as much profit as they can. I do the same thing in my job. Straight up lying isn’t ok though. At least we have the internet on our side nowadays, so it’s more difficult for them to get away with it as long as the customer takes the time to educate themselves. It used to be near impossible to know if you were getting screwed or not.

I think it was here somewhere that I read about them eavesdropping on you by leaving the speakerphone active on their desks. They’ll do it at both the salesman’s desks and the finance guy’s office. When they go to “check on something”, they’ll leave the phone on, and go listen to you and your spouse talking when you think it’s private. People literally tell them how much they’re willing to pay, or how eager they are without knowing it. Pretty brilliant actually, though possibly illegal.

The other big thing I try to tell people is that the finance guys are salesmen also. They aren’t accountants. The guys in finance are usually former salesmen who did well enough to get promoted into that department. Their job is to get additional profit for the dealership once the sale is in hand, either through extended warranties or financing.

What a lot of people don’t know is that the dealerships build markup into the financing. Say Toyota approves 3%. If the dealership gets you to sign off on 5% they keep the difference.

They take advantage of the fact that you’ve already spent a ton of time working out a deal. You’re tired, and eager to take your new vehicle home. Most people think the work is done, and let their guard down once they hit the finance office. If you’re going to get screwed at a dealership, that’s most likely where it’s going to happen. Best way to combat that is to get pre-approved through someone else before you even begin to negotiate at a dealership. That way, you know they can’t pay the number. If they can beat that rate, fine. Just know beforehand where it should be. Be sure you know your credit rating also, and this goes for anything. You should always know that number whether you’re looking for a loan or not.

On this occasion, I hadn’t actually gotten pre-approval ahead of time, but I knew that I would be approved, and where the rate should be. Takes less than ten minutes to get an approval from your bank on your phone without even talking to a person. You’re already taking a hard inquiry on your credit, so one or two more aren’t going to affect your rating.

I do also benefit from being in a major metropolitan area, so there’s plenty of competition around. I imagine it’s harder to get a good deal if there’s only one dealership within close driving distance. (That only goes for sales price. Finance rates aren’t affected by distance.)

I’ll get off my soapbox now. :)

Serra Toyota Traverse City Michigan. Back a few years ago I was in the market for a new truck. Pulled in to their lot on a Saturday evening after they were closed. The General Manager Brad was still on the lot arranging vehicles. He had a white Limited he was driving and asked me if I wanted to take it for a drive. Didn't like the interior so never got that far. He said I have a white platinum that is loaded on the side of the building. Asked me to come in the dealership. Handed me a bunch of information on the truck. Looked at my Titan trade in and said he would love to work a deal. 24 hours later I had a new 2015 Platinum that I was taking home. Gave me a great deal on the trade in. They have a Mechanic (Mike) who is the most conscientious tech on the planet. He does amazing work. Ralph is their best service writer. Its a great dealership to deal with. No issues or complaints and they take great care of my truck and me. I would recommend them highly.

2011, May, I emailed Eastern Shore Toyota in Daphne, and asked about a base Tacoma, 2.7, regular cab, 5 speed standard transmission. The sticker price was just under 20k on this one. I received in return a stock photo of that truck with its vin#(so the quote was for that truck) for 16k flat, brand new. So I dragged my wife an hour drive to the dealer on a work night, with all my ducks in a row to get my 16k Tacoma. I joked with my wife and said literally "if they pull crap and try to stick us in a used PT crusier, we walk".
Well, the guy who emailed refused to honor the price he quoted, and said it was a mistake. Merely hours after confirming the price, BEFORE A 2 HOUR ROUND TRIP DRIVE. Then a salesmen on the floor tried to push us into, a used PT cruiser, ffs! We laughed in their faces, and went back home.
At 11pm, that night, when we got home, I sent an email to the owners secretary, not angry, but simply stating exactly what happened. The next morning, things became exciting.
I received a call at 9 am the next morning, From THE OWNER!! He said he will honor the price, and send out the truck and all the paperwork, Delivered to us, by 11 am., and it was. No shit. Still have the Taco, best vehicle I have ever owned(too soon to call the Tundra that).

A little this and that...Broke now
Since my injuries, I can no longer do my own maintenance. I have had an exceptional experience from the service manager David Anderson from Toyota of El Cajon, he transferred to Toyota of Santee. He is honest, fair, always tries to give me the best price possible on my work and if there is a cheaper alternative he shows me the way, even if its not from his store. When work gets done on his day off he calls the shop and calls my cell to coordinate everything.
I use him exclusively with no bs ever.

Bought my wifes 2017 Highlander when they were University Toyota. They have treated us well in servicing the High but the Toyota Care runs out after one more free oil change. Bought new tires for it recently during their Oct sale(3 reg price, 1 for $1) which means free rotation. The 2004 Tundra just got back from Timing belt and other items normally assoc with such work. The service rep and in particular the Master Tech did wonderful work. They'll continue getting our business for certain jobs except the Tundra which I'll be doing various upcoming jobs because I enjoy it.

Seeger Toyota/ St. Robert, MO: Solid group of folks there, techs seem to be real gearheads by the collection of rigs behind the service shop. Drove my '07 up from NC to have them do my timing belt/ water pump...if that says anything. Good prices & military/ vet discount. Sales folks are not pushy. We've done quite a bit of biz with them A+.

If anyone is in the Tupelo, MS area, my brother’s stepdaughter just started there in sales. Shoot me a message if you’re in the market at any point.

Great service - the service center is away from any show room, and is for service only...
The waiting area is massive, plenty of seating, wifi, TV is you wish, "bar" type seating, single comfy chairs everywhere.

Made an appointment, went in for service - had my free coffee and was able to telecommute to work from their space...

    GRAND!!!

Dang dude...I just saw this! I live in Tupelo and I took delivery today of a 2019 Tundra (bought from Vroom). Although I've pretty much sworn off ever dealing with the local Toyota dealership here again.

Milton Martin Toyota, Gainesville, GA - These folks made it WELL worth my time to drive over 11 hours round trip for my new Tundra. I have no idea about their service department.

Eastern Shore Toyota, Daphne, AL - This dealership is only 10 minutes from my house but I will NEVER let them touch any of my 4 Toyotas. There are so many nightmare stories about their service it could fill a book. And when I was getting prices for my new Tundra, they barely came off MSRP.

Springhill Toyota, Mobile, AL - THIS is who I will be dealing with for any dealer related services. I have heard as many good stories about Springhill service as I have bad stories about Eastern Shore. They were also very competitive when pricing my new Tundra. They even gave me my down payment back when I told them what Milton Martin would sell me the same truck for! Ask for Tina in Internet Sales if you don't want to drive to Georgia!

Modern Toyota in Winston Salem, NC

I have been to four different Toyota dealerships in NC including Modern. Modern was the easiest to work with from the get go for a few reasons. My sales guy was great, I didn't really know what I wanted and he put me in everything from a Rav4 to a Taco. He never balked when I said whatever I just drove wasn't for me he just said on to the next one. When we did land on one I went back and forth on the price via text for a few days and finally told him a number I was comfortable with paying and got a little resistance but I basically walked and he called me two days later and said okay. I went in, they drew it up, I got a great deal, they didn't work me into the dirt to get a warranty (I said if its reliable then I don't need one, right? You wouldn't sell me something that would break 40k miles in would you?), I signed and I was out in less than about 90 minutes with a running board installation and quick detail thrown in there. They then delivered the floor mats that were included in the deal two days later to my office and put them in. They did a bang up job honestly. I am in sales as well and I know they need to move cars to feed the kids and I get that; salesmanship doesn't bother me. Actually I quite like being sold to rather than doing it myself, a little gamesmanship I guess. My guy and his manager wanted to sell me a car sure but they never laid it on thick until I feel like I hit the number on the asking price that made them a touch uncomfortable and they then asked me to come back a few days later.

Modern Toyota... Would recommend, PM me if you are in NC and I will give you my guy's contact.

The biggest one I won't name in Raleigh also has great service and a great sales team but they won't move on price as much because quite frankly they move enough metal to make it so they don't have to. The other two were small and using the old school four square wanting my signature wanting to bring in a manager and I'm just not interested in that whatsoever.

    I totally missed this one.

She wasn’t as concerned about how the dealerships made money off the customers. It was how the sales managers did shady business to the sales teams and individuals.

Can confirm this....because I just bought my truck from them March 19th, and wife has bought a Highlander from them. :) (I live here - civil service, work for NEC on post.) Salesman was friends with my next door neighbor, who said "Oh, Gerry? He's good people, he'll do you right." I felt the same about the techs - in fact, I once had a 4Runner with a rear wiper that was evidently tack-welded on. LOL Not only did they get the blasted thing off for me, they told me "No charge - I did that just because I was pissed @ the damn thing." LOL!

South Coast Toyota (Orange County CA) - Sales rep lied to me about Blazing Blue Pearl paint issue I noticed on Tacoma (said they cant sell the truck as Toyota Certified if they had painted it ) then I found out it was already painted by Toyota. This was not my only gripe as i had to call Toyota HQ on another issue I had with them and HQ agreed with me and covered the repair that had a TSB.

When I purchased my Tundra, I ruled them out from the start.

I purchased my Tundra from AutoNation of Irvine and so far they have been good to deal with.

You may remember them from this thread a few years back:

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/this-toyota-dealer-is-f-ing-crazy.15284/#post-311888

@Trooper2 brought to my attention that they had a 2019 TRD Pro with “7k off” on the windshield. Looking at their site, they show to have four of them. I decided to contact them and see what they would do on one.

He quoted me a “drive off price” of $55,891. Didn’t look like 7k off to me, so I asked for a breakdown. He sent it to me, and sure enough there’s some bs tacked on. Short negotiation as follows:

Bottom line: “our discount is bullshit, and were not even going to pretend otherwise”.

I’d say they’re not going to have much luck moving trucks that will soon be two model years behind at that price, but I’d probably be wrong. Somebody will fall for it. They managed to sell the one in the link above.

Toyota of Alvin (Alvin, Tx) as well.

Went to look at an SR5 Tundra listed online for $35,060.00. Discussed a tire upgrade or swap wheels/tires with another Tundra. They were going to see what they could do and let me know.
The $35k turned into over $41k :annoyed:

They have been unresponsive since asking them to remove the B.S. adders.

As seen in post above, this looks to be routine at this Steelership......
It does appear that I got a better deal on the B.S. stuff than @War Machine did. :p

2 weeks ago tomorrow I bought my 19 Tundra from Freedom Country Dodge in Killeen Texas. It's roughly 70 miles North of Austin. We had an Awesome salesman named Daniel. I highly recommend using him. The dealer is almost 2.5 hours south of Fort Worth. So it was a bit of a haul. But this wasn't the truck we were going to see. Another dealer was advertising a cement 2018 Tundra with 23k and asking $34k. When we got there and looked at it, it had been beaten to Hell. It also had 80k not 23k as advertised. It obviously had been a work truck. It was filthy and badly scratched up inside and out. The driver seat had a big cigerette burn hole in it. I was not happy. The dealer did fill my tank for the long drive we just had driven. And said they would find me a truck. We went to 4 other dealers before finding my truck at the Dodge dealer. It's a 2019 it only had 18k. I bought it on the spot. So that's my story.

Karl Malone Toyota: Extremely pushy salesmen. They will even get to the point where they will try to lowball insult you. The salesmen don't like people who are fiscally savvy. I bought my first Tundra here - walked out because the salesman was rude and very aggressive. A sales manager called me a week later and negotiated. Got a good price but wouldn't go there again. It's a shame because Karl Malone is one of my childhood heroes.

Bountiful Toyota: Great sales people, friendly sales and finance management. Service department sucks. Wouldn't go there again.

Mark Miller Toyota: Great and friendly sales staff, knowledgeable and competent service department. I went to this place AFTER the other two and wish I had gone there first. They acquired my current truck from Karl Malone when I was about to buy the same truck/options in MGM because I wouldn't deal with Karl Malone. Great dealership, highly recommended.

All of these are in and around the Salt Lake City area.
