TRD dual exhaust leveling

I just bought a new 2020 Platinum Tundra and installed the TRD dual exhaust. It sounds amazing! However, the OCD in me was really bothered by how different the driver-side and passenger-side hung. The driver side was at least an inch higher. I thought it was really noticeable.

I searched a bit on this forum and found others complaining about the same thing, but I didn't find any solutions other than that the passenger side hanger may have been stretched. Comparing the hangers though they looked the same. It appears the hanger mount that comes with the TRD dual exhaust for the driver-side places the pegs closer to the frame, so using the same hanger was going to result in different heights.

The Tundra (or maybe many Toyota vehicles?) seems a bit unique in that the hangers use two holes on the top, but I tried a hanger using a single peg. That resulted in the pipes having a lot more slop, which I didn't like. So I tried another set off Amazon that worked perfectly!

Now they're nearly perfect! I used the middle hole for the driver-side and the top hole for the passenger-side.

Thought I'd post this here for the next person that wants to level the exhaust and save them a little time and money.

 

You can also adjust it by loosing the bolts at the tail end of the mid pipe. When I installed my Bamuffler pipes it was uneven, I ended up leveling it just by loosing the rear bolts and having someone hold the exhaust tip level. Torque down and good to go.

 

Interesting, I didn't try doing anything like that. The hanger seemed to dictate the height of the tip, since when I took the hanger off it would slump down about where the 3rd hole is in the hangers I bought. Are you able to rotate that connection? If so, that would definitely change the height of the tip.

 

Yes, a little bit at least. I still need to fine tune it, OCD here too.

 

Well… now I know. At this point it looks great, so I'll just leave as-is. No use messing with it again.

Next will be installing the TRD sway bars. The instructions look simple enough, so that should be no problem!

 

Rear bar is simple, I havent done the front.

 

I had read about this being an issue for a number of inmates. So, before tightening the passenger side hardware, I used a bungee cord to pull upward on the exhaust tip, holding it upward, then tightened everything down and it seemed to work. Pipes look even to me.

 

trowski, like you, I am OCD. I paid too much money for the TRD dual exhaust system for it not to be right. My issue was both that one hung lower AND one hung about 1 1/2 inches out further than the other. Your recommendation for the new hanger was great. Now, they are almost perfect. The factory rubber mounting that coms with kit will have both sides even. I just installed my TRD dual yesterday. The mounts should all be the same type.

 

did the new hangars fix the issue with one side sticking out further than the other? I have the same issue.

 

Thanks for this. Just had it installed today. Not as loud as I thought (that is a good thing) but looks awesome. I purchased those hangers. Somewhere between the bolts and these hangars, my OCD shall be in check.

 

I might have to get one of these. I have one side that is lower than the other on mine also

 

I had them loosen and re tighten. They lined up perfectly

 

I did the same and thought they lined up right, but the passenger side extended out the side more, which I really didn't like. I bolted back the original way and zip tied the hanger to cinch it up a bit. It looks much better and will do until I get a $2 hose clamp to draw it up exactly even.
