TRD Exhaust

Hey guys,
There's a used TRD dual exhaust for sale on OfferUp I'm interested in. It does not have the tailpipes, just the muffler. Is there anything I should be looking for in particular with the muffler, and would any of you guys buy a used muffler?

 

I bought mine used with about 7k on it and would do it again. That muffler look a little rusty though? The tailpipes are about $400 retail. Might be worth it to talk to Dirty Deeds first.

 

A good muffler shop can help you out with tailpipes, you could prolly run them the way you want too, if you don't like the dual side out look.

 

For the price Trd tailpipes are a bargain. Mandrel bent. Stainless steel. Polished tips. High end hardware. Best of the best.

The muffler sections that used should be $250ish.

 

He's only asking $150...

 

For that price, if that's the sound you're lokkkng for, that's a deal

That said, i normally recommend running single exhaust if you're not supercharged or running long tube headers.

Also, if sensitive to drone, or your truck is 2014+, be aware some guys have reported a helicopter sound.

I recommend dual exhaust if running long tube headers

I say it's ok to run dual exhaust when supercharged. But until we can do more tuning on our ecu dual exhaust is neither a benefit nor harm.

I recommend single exhaust with the stock tailpipe when running stock manifolds and no supercharger. There is no benefit when dual exhaust. And matter of fact the low end torque loss is noticeable, unless you run an x pipe.

But, even with an x pipe properly built single exhaust has better low end torque than dual, and there is no top end benefit either way.

 

So just to clarify my thinking. So the TRD Exhaust on a regular SR5 is not really worth the money unless I am just looking for sound?

The TRD is exhaust isn't going to enhance the performance of your SR5.

Whether the sound is worth $1,000 to you is subjective....Plenty of people around here have spent that for the sound and they're happy.

 

Hey Keith, long tube headers aren't smog legal here in Cali right?

 

If you're not supercharged and not running long tube headers then Trd dual exhaust is good for 3-10hp and 10-20 tq. There is gain. But it's at the expense of low end torque.

 

Correct. Long tubes are only legal in America. Not California. They have been banned for two reasons in Kalifornia. 1. Fun and there's no way to tax that. 2. Butterflies. California has an abundance of butterflies which may be harmed by badassery.

Pardon my lack of knowledge regarding all things exhaust. And thanks for all the input.
So my question is...are these exhaust pipes compatible with the TRD muffler? They are BANKS pipes.

 

Very happy with my TRD exhaust. To me it has just the right amount of sound and no drone at high way speeds
