OBD Fusion Veepeak Discussion (Engine/Trans Temp, towing, volt, gauge, monitoring)

I Downloaded the IOS OBD Fusion App and using a Veepeak BLE+ OBDII Bluetooth plugin scanner to monitor transmission temps while towing and other features such as Engine Oil temp, and make some custom gauge panels for my phone. I believe there is a Android version of this app also.

Here's what I now am using and downloaded:
1) Veepeak BLE+ scanner (pictured above) ~$32 off the bay
2) OBD Fusion App ($9.99)
3) In-App 1996-2020 Enhanced Diagnostics for $49.99.

I'm starting this thread since the OBD Fusion App with the Enhanced features is very capable and at times a little cryptic IMHO but as I work through it and with the help of Mike19 have setup some nice monitor screens. My intention is to monitor all the possible items that are important while towing and travelling. I'm not over concerned, just maintain my Tundra the best I can and like a heads up if something is going wrong before any damage is done.

I only tow a boat that weighs about 3700 lbs plus another 4-500 lbs of gear and 3-4 people on 3-400 mile trips. I also tow a snowmobile trailer that weighs in at around 1800lbs with gear/fuel, 2 4-stroke sleds. So I'm not anywhere near max but liked the gauges on my 2010 that monitored transmission oil temp and engine oil temp and even under the loads I tow they would climb a bit going up steeper hills. The only downside of the actual 2010 dash gauges is that you didn't know the actual temperature.

With the Veepeak and OBD Fusion App you can monitor precise temperature, voltage, PSI, state of important variables. I'm hoping that others are interested and may want to share their gauge setups and what they found works on possibly different year Tundras.

Here's some pics of the gauges and some of the customization I've started to play with. I'm hoping to find a indicator of when the torque converter is locked and I'm experimenting with 3 gauges as shown to see which one will show it. There is a very large list of variables you can select to create a gauge and monitor, however, some of the descriptions are vague and may require some trial and error. You can also modify the size and placement of the gauges and create multiple panels to scroll through. There is a HUD option also for those that might want that.

Here's what I'm experimenting with now and the far right one seems to go from 0 to .5 and back. So possibly the .5 means TC locked? It is only after the truck is warm and usually on the highway or long straight run.




Anyway, hope there's more interest. Mike19 gave me some great tips to get started so hope he joins in and possibly some folks doing some max towing to compare notes on transmission temps.

I to have been playing with this same exact setup and love it. Lots of great data that can be pulled and monitored from the truck. I'm not sure if you have looked around on this forum but there is another thread that was started with more info about different layouts for the display and things like that.

There did you find the A/T temp? I couldn’t find it.

 

You have to manually program it through user defined PIDs
