The Tundra is a 2015 Limited CrewMax 4x4 with the TRD OffRoad pkg. Only 40k miles. Beautiful truck. I have an '18 SR5 with the SR5 Upgrade Pkg so mine has the 38gal tank. Will his have the bigger tank as well? He's trading at a Ford dealer and they have no clue what size the tank is. I googled a brochure for the 2015 Tundras and all I see info on is the 26.4 gal tank. Anybody???

Uh oh. The last thing I told him was it'll get terrible fuel mileage but at least because it's the higher trim model with the 5.7 it'll have the 38 gallon tank. Luckily he doesn't drive a ton of miles. Thanks for the info.

The 38 gallon thing might be a deal breaker for him. I’ve always been a “fill it up when it’s half empty” guy but now if it’s below 3/4 on the gauge and I happen to notice I’ll go fill it up and usually get 12ish gallons put in.

He’ll still enjoy the truck. I have the smaller gas tank as well, and it’s one of only two things I dislike about my truck (2WD being the other). I still get pretty good range out of it, so if he doesn’t drive a ton it shouldn’t really be an issue.

You a few options, the way I see this, possible contact a truck recycling place and get a good used one. Or up grade to the new 16’ model one tank. Here’s a link below look around your area or a 200 mile search. Good luck to you and your son. Don’t forget to ask for the skid plate that might come with it.

Well, speaking on that line... I have the 38 gallon tank. When mine gets down to about 20 miles to empty, I can only get about 28-29 gallons of fuel in it. I know, I know...reserve, I've been told. Just makes no sense to me really.

I've seen the threads about replacing the tank and shared that idea with him. He's gonna drive it for a bit and see how it goes. He works 5 miles from home. Gets there at 8am, leaves at 6pm and this is Monday thru Saturday. He may be able to live with it ok...

Once he has it and see all of the others on the road, he will want to lift it and mod it. It's an addiction among probably 98% of us in this forum. Lol.

If he likes the truck and it checks out otherwise I wouldn't let the tank size scare me away. I had a 2018 Limited with the 38-gallon tank and now have a 2010 SR5 (long story) with the 26-gallon tank. Sure, I fill up more often, but it really doesn't seem that different. I guess I don't put a ton of miles on it, but even still it wouldn't be a deal-breaker. Enjoy your Tundras!

I'll skip it and try to look for a 38 tank...why spend 1 year in a gas station filling up gas.

I hear ya. But this truck is really nice and kind of a rare find. A '15 Limited with only 40k miles that looks brand new. He is pretty pumped. Tank won't be that big of a deal for him anyway...

The other day I put 33.6 gallons in my 26 gallon tank. I only run 91 octane since December and my mileage has gone up to 16.3 hand calculated and I have a driving range of 350ish but I fill up before the light comes on. We have a fuel station close by that has suuuuuper slow pumps so you can sit there and pump away after the first stop if you don't mind holding the handle. Mine is a 15 as well, the tank bummed me out at first since I got out of a 7.3 powerstroke that had a 36 gallon tank and was averaging 21 mpg empty and 17 with a trailer....seemed like you could drive for days....but I really like the tundra and getting gas more often doesn't seem to bother me anymore.

Because these truck last forever, you better off finding that 38 gal tank, cause you don't know what happens later in life and more accessory = more weight and less fuel econ...

Yup, 38 started in 2016 and you have to get at least an SR5 upgrade package for the truck to be equipped with the larger tank. My dad has a 2014 limited and his is only 26 gallons. Honestly, after having the larger tank, I don’t think I’d buy another truck without something in the 30s for a tank size. I get it at the end of the day. But I really enjoy having the longer range, especially if you’re someone who goes hunting or fishing in remote places. We go on an annual father son fishing trip every year and I can go up and back (3 hour drive one way) and do some buzzing around to different fishing spots and come back home with 100 or so miles on my range. They’re a few stations up there but it’s nice to buzz right on by and not have to take the time to stop or pay higher fuel prices due to the remoteness of the location. Another thing to consider, will your son be towing with his Tundra? 26 gallons is small for normal driving but if he plans to tow, he’ll burn through that obviously quicker than a 38.

I've seen comments like this on the forum several times. I would not let the tank size bother me. I have the 26 gallon tank and when I take it down to 'E' it's usually 24-25 gallons to fill up. I've never understood why you guys with the 38 only need a few more than that to fill up. What's the point of the extra capacity if you can't use it?

Does anyone with a 38 actually know how to USE that 'reserve' fuel? Is there a toggle switch somewhere on the dash to switch over? I've never heard of anyone using it. The most I recall seeing someone on here put in their 38 was like 31 gallons.

you’re right, it’s very misleading. Most I have done is around 31 and that was when I ran it well past 0 miles to E. I think my range is only like 450 miles average..?

I think I would only be concerned about the smaller fuel tank if towing frequently or long distances.

Towing our 6000lb TT was a joke with my 15DC. Depending on where the gas station was, we could only go 150-200 miles max before I got really nervous.
