Recently retired, so a new Tundra was one of my last large purchases. Previously owned a 2008 Tundra xsp with 264,000 care free, well used miles, but now was the time to prepare for future. After researching I decided a crew cab limited 4x4 was what I needed. My wife went with me, so I came home with a 1794 Edition. I really like the truck, satisfied with my price point. After meeting with the business person and completing paperwork I came home quiet let down. She was doing her job which was to up sale me by explaining how this truck was basically a big computer. Telling me all the different sensors that make it work and how expensive it was to maintain. At this point enter extended warranty. After considering cost, I refused and decided to take my chances with mfg warranty. I am definitely not tech savvy, so I'm pretty confused. This took the total edge off of a new truck. I know most will think this is crazy, but I look at the different components and wonder if today is the day my dash is going to explode. I can't get past information dealership gave me. If I had it to do over, would not make this purchase. Does anyone have any track record information. Thanks

Sales person was an idiot. Tundras have relatively few issues. End of story.

You should be able to get a refund on the warranty. Looking through the forums for issues with computers and electronic modules/sensors should answer the question for you. I went from Ford to Toyota so I didn't have to get any extended warranties.

Enjoy the truck and forget about the salesman. I have a 2019 1794 and love everything about it except the chrome accents on the interior. The majority of the electronics in this truck have been around since 2014 or earlier so I'm sure Toyota has them pretty dialed in by now. The two big changes from my understanding were the keyless ignition and entry and apple/Android audio. I'm sure there are other changes but I say just love the truck and clear your mind.

    TEXAS!
my response to the warranty pitch. "so, you're telling me that you're selling me a piece of junk?". they typically don't say much else after that. i like quiet sales people... :woot:

also, no need to worry AT ALL. 3rd gen tundra is a dinosaur and has been proven for many years. no extended warranty on my '19. it's a 'yota.

now, let's see some damn pics of that nice new rig!

My father in law's response is "you have 3 seconds to stop talking about the warranty before you lose this sale."

I’m on my 3rd tundra. Current is 1794. None of them break. None of them give or have given issues. You will love it. Ignore the sales pitch and love your truck. It won’t let you down.

    1. That is how they make $$ back when they sell at a discount. They are professional manipulators, and play off a script.
    2. You can buy a Toyota extended warranty direct from TOyota (through a dealer) ANYTIME before the 3 years/36,000 factory warranty wears out and only go to 100 or 125K miles.
    3. You likely won't need it.

    GO ENJOY YOUR TRUCK!

Love it.... I was at the final point of closing a sale and the dealer (Jeep) wouldn't stop. Extended warranty, paint protection, carpet protection, prepaid service, and on and on. I told him I wasn't interested 3x and said I dont want to talk about this, let's close the sale. He wouldn't, so I reached across the desk, took my check (pre-approved loan bank check) and contract and tore them in half, took my check and walked out.

30 minutes later, I got a call from the GM asking why I left. I Explained what happened. He invited me back, and gave me another $500 off the vehicle, Chrysler financing for lower interest rate, and no hassles. I hate dealers...... I bought my Tundra while in Afghanistan, $43K before tax/tags and NO additional fees. My wife did the final paperwork with POA. Was the last Cement DC on the East Coast. They even stored it for me for 7 months before I got back. Was a very good experience, none of that baloney.
