What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Sometimes that happens. Hopefully it’s something that simple!

 

I took my bed trim off to clean my truck and I actually really like it with out it but its not practical. Anyone know any low profile bed trim?

 

I have a black rear bumper coming and the rest of the logos are coming off soon. I just need to find a good way to get the residue off. You have a picture of the front of your truck with black headlights?

 

Spray WD40 on the gross stickies, let soak in, gently rub off with a microfiber, repeat until bare

 

Got the driver side flange fixed up. I'm not sure if the headers are just louder than stock (which I'm sure they are) but I think I'm going to do a once-over to make sure everything is snugged up. I still hear, what I think, is a leak but it could just be the headers and how they sound?

On the BAMuffler setup, not really happy with the sound. Would a resonator help clean the tone up? In the cab, it doesn't seem so bad but outside it seems nasty. Feedback is appreciated!

@Darkness i just replaced my lights With those also, I love them. Makes the truck look brand new.

 

It doesn't sound bad but it's a bit raspy. Reminds me of an old muscle car. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

 

@imDementeD most resonator only work at low rpm, once rpm kicks up above say 2500 the pressure defeats the effect.

If you mean the higher rpm snarl, I don't think a resonator will help there.

 

@Darkness - I want to clean up the raspy sound at the lower RPM's. It just doesn't have a clean rumble to it.

@FirstGenVol - It's def raspy but I think the mic makes it sound cleaner then it is in person.

I think it sounds pretty good a little hallow might just be the phone recording . Also you instantly made me want to get a supercharger love that whiiiinnneeee!

Dropped the truck off at the shop.

Spoke with the tech, and owner (same dude)

Told him what I'd like to have done, and that I had my wheel bearings on order, but had not yet arrived. He assured me that he had done that job before, and knew what was required.
Told him that when they came in I would run them by his shop.

He tried to steer me away from replacing bearings, seals, etc and the like. Thought this was odd. He said "how we press on, and press off bearings here, if they are not leaking we can re-use them on your type of truck." Edit: maybe @empty_lord with his mastery of toy can confirm just for the sake of my curiosity?

I explained, "Well I've already ordered the whole kit, and caboodle. It should be everything you need as far as the bearings go. The ones in right now have 313k miles on them, and since you'll be in there anyway... may as well slap new ones on too."

He agreed, and said "that it was smart that I stood my ground, and was looking to be proactive instead of reactive."

I thanked him, and then we talked about my truck. He asked me how it had been running since he installed the jasper transmission replacement. (OEM tranny was just a hair too short on the end so it had "wallered" out the (joint?) Where it meets drive shaft?) I was young when that happened probably 10 yo.

Not 100% certain on how it all got done.

 

Just finished with an oil change, front diff fluid and transfer case fluid.
For all of you fumoto valve owners that say it takes forever to drain......here is a picture of my valve and after a quick 5 minute drive I came home, let the truck sit for a few and then drained the oil. Took just under 10minutes which is fine with me.

Also, It looked like the front diff fluid hadn't been changed in forever since it was really sludgy and gray but is there supposed to be this much 'gunk' on the drain plug? Looks like a big pile of grease??? I also wiped half of it off so imagine the plug being fully covered.

 

Plug looked like mine on the front diff except yours has some chunks which might be the original from new usage. My rear diff Plug looked the same as that after 30k miles, as well. Real fine sludge magnet build up is normal from what I understand. You just don’t want mostly big chunks.

 

Really sick actually. Love getting on it and hearing the v8!

Did you paint your mirror covers? I have "black" ones but I was suppose to paint them and they are starting to look scuffed.

 

You have to press the bearing off the axle to fit the backing plate. Typically pressing it off will damage the old bearing

 

Long ago I had chrome mirror covers and I did paint those black. After a year they started chipping and somebody from a different forum gave me a pair of black covers from a limited tundra. The caps are hard to take off withoutbreaking them.

 

Every time I see a limited in phantom grey, I’m tempted to wait for them and ask for a parking lot swap........

 

Crunching numbers on the Amps for Horn/Haz 20Amp Fuse. Looks like the 4 corner Haz bulbs are currently eating up 8.5 Amps.

The two horns currently are at 9 Amps.

8.5 + 9 = 17.5 Amps

New Horn adds 4.5 Amps

Need to add some LED turn signals to free up Amps. Do not like resistors. Will Zevo LED work in rear turn signals just on their own without resistors? If so, this will free up 4 Amps for my additional Horn.


Do I need resistors in Rear Signal Assys for Zevo LED?

Get a led relay and no need for the resistors. Zevo is what I run in the Avalon

Ya i broke my chrome ones when I switched them out. Ive been on the hunt for limited ones but They are hard to find unless I buy the whole mirror which i dont want to do.

 

What style flasher relay does yours have? I have a diode dynamics flasher relay in the Avalon and have one coming for my tundra

The flasher relay is going to be on the inside fuse box attached on the box towards the bottom
