I just traded in my 2016 Tacoma Trd Off-Road for a 2020 Tundra Limited. If I am not mistaken, this is the first year of Apple/Android Car Play for the Tundra. My phone is synced and everything works but when I try to make a call from the steering wheel I get a message which tells me to connect a device even though my phone is connected. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Are you connected via CarPlay or via bluetooth? I don't make many calls from my truck but the few that I have I've made with bluetooth and haven't noticed any issues. I also haven't tried Android Auto so no idea what issues it may have, if any.

The Apple Carplay in my 2020 has worked flawlessly so far. Are you using Apple or Android?

There has been at least one fix for CarPlay from Toyota. I was having issues with the screen locking up after making a couple of calls and the screen was garbled. After the update, it is much more reliable and usable, but not perfect. The screen still gets a little funky sometimes, but unplugging and replugging it fixes it. I am at the dealer for my first oil change right now, and I asked them to see if there is another update.

Carplay in my 2020 has worked just fine when using an Apple lightning cable in the left most socket.

If using cp there's no reason to even be paired via bt.

What ekinnee said; I use it with the plug to the left.

The only issue I've had is when I'm already on a call and I start the truck. The bluetooth in the truck steals the connection and there are a few seconds where I can't hear anything and the person on the other end can't hear me. Annoying.

I'm pretty sure that happens on every vehicle.

    none yet -just starting out
I’ve had a problem for about a week now - ever since the latest Apple iOS update. It worked fine before that but now I get the message “this accessory is not supported by this devise” and it boots me off of calls.

At the dealer yesterday, other than the update I received in May, there are no new updates yet. That being said, next time you are in the dealer, you should ask them to check to versions.

I am on an off calls and apps for work all the time, and sometimes things still get a little funky, but unplugging and replugging it in seems to be a quick temporary fix.

Before the update in May, the entire head unit would lock up until it crashed and rebooted.

I am using a brand new iPhone cable from Apple and I still get the occasional glitch. Much less problematic than before, but not perfect. As for Bluetooth, as others have said, you don’t really need it if you have CarPlay. The Entune apps are underwhelming, so I unpaired my phone via Bluetooth.

What version are you on? And, is it an Apple cable or an aftermarket?

And what would be great is for Toyota to integrate their app with Carplay so that it will display vehicle info. Preferably useful stuff like temps and what not.
