The cost to maintain my last F150 to 92k was $4k+ and I did some myself. Last straw was when it spit #6 on my ex on Xmas eve.

I love most things about F150s and have had two over the last 9 years--a 2011 Ecoboost 4x4 Lariat and a 2014 5.0 Lariat 4x4. Additionally, my friend owns several dealerships so when my F150s were in for repairs I got extended test drives of the latest and greatest, the longest of which lasted a couple of months. With that said, that article seems to be fairly blatant propaganda for Ford.

The good: F150s are comfortable, the Ecoboost in particular has great power, they probably get ever so slightly better mileage than a Tundra, they ride well, the interiors are really nice and the various controls and technology seems to work well and are intuitive.

The bad: the reliability was not good at all on my two F150s. Over 70,000 miles, my 2011 had A/C repair, valve body replacement (and transmission still wasn't right when traded) and over the last 10,000 miles was in 3-4 for engines issues. I can't remember what all they did to the engine but it was out of warranty at the end and costing $1,500 plus each time it went to the shop. Over the 80,000 miles with my 2014, I had a complete transmission replacement, 4WD actuator replacement, $2,000 cooling system repair and the transmission was starting showing signs of possibly needing a second replacement at the end. So a heck of a lot of the time in the shop over nine years and 150,000 miles, and I'm sure I'm missing a few things. I don't particularly drive them hard either. Mainly they are used as a car with some light hauling and occasional towing up to 6,000 pounds and mild off-roading.

During the same time frame, my dad put 150,000 on his 2012 Tundra, including about 2,500 miles of towing a skid steer, which is abusive for a 1/2 ton, doing work around a farm he owned and rented out, driving to and from oilfield job sites, building several spec houses, etc. He did nothing other than routine maintenance to the Toyota and now has another one. My wife's 2012 Sequoia is similar with 120,000 miles and nothing other than routine maintenance.

I didn't want to change because of all the good things about the F150 and really didn't care of the looks of the Tundra but finally my wife and my father talked me into the Toyota. I bought a 2020 TuRD Pro (as they call them in my office). I've had it a month and have a couple of thousand miles on it now. I like it better than I thought. The ride is firm but it seems really good off-road. The suspension really soaks up bumps, dips and rough roads in ways my Fords never did. The interior technology and interface seems to work well. The seats seem to be more comfortable than my wife's 2012 Platinum , which was my complaint about Toyotas. I think these seats are every bit as comfortable if not more so than my Fords were. I love that Toyota's off-road truck has around 32" tires on 18" rims, which was the final deciding factor for me to buy the TRD Pro over other models. I don't understand why the factories so often put 20" and even 22" rims on 4x4s, which is a set back over the smaller rim sizes when it comes to off-road performance. I guess it must be a fad. About the worst thing I can say about the Tundra is that the TRD Pro low restriction exhaust are really loud and when talking using Apple Car Play, I get negative comments from the people on the other end about the exhaust noise and it is hard to hear what someone in the back seat is saying, but my hearing isn't great. Maybe I can take it in when getting serviced and have a quieter exhaust system installed. Also, the lane departure feature is super annoying, especially in winding construction zones. Neither of those are deal killers for me and if I get the reliability my wife and father are getting, I will be super happy with the Tundra.

Never say never, but I doubt I will be buying another Ford anytime soon. So far, I prefer my Tundra to the F150s I've had.

I'd look into adding soundproofing to help quiet it down, put it in all the doors, roof, and floor. I've seen a few members who have done it and all have said it was noticeably quieter. And for the exhaust you could look into swapping a standard exhaust into it, find someone who wants yours and you can take theirs - and you'd make a little money doing that.

As for the 20's on some trucks I've been told some areas where rocks and debris can get between the caliper and the rim if you have 18's.

We all love our Tundras, we all know they are severely outdated.
That’s why we modify n upgrade them!

I wouldn’t trust any of them “Millennial Muppets” at “float a biscuit” to give a real test n review of a fisher price car nevermind pickup trucks...

The Tundra has very few issues, but it would be the only truck I would purchase in the 1/2 ton lineup.

This truck is made for show or work, every day within the designed limits.

My father in law must have gotten really lucky with his 2011 EcoBoost. As far as I know, he hasn't had any major issues, though it has been in for a lot of recalls.

Assuming your 2020 is the same as mine, you should be able to turn off lane departure warning and leave it off. It doesn't come on every time you start the truck like the pre collision system. In fact, I think you can turn it on and off right from a button on the steering wheel.

Before 2019, I would have said a GM would have been a reasonable buy as long as you got lucky and got one with a good transmission. (It seems about the only thing on the T1s that's better than the K2s is the 10 speed.) In fact, one Consumer Reports article I read said that the 2018 Sierra had similar expected reliability to the Tundra.

Now I agree that none of the big 3 are worth buying from a reliability standpoint and it's not likely to get better if Ford does another redesign of the F150 next year.

Top trim Tundras compete with F150 Lariat or lower end King Ranch, not Platinum. That’s the price difference.

I just did a google search for most rear legroom in a 1/2 ton truck and it goes like this
    Ram crew cab - 45.2”
    Chevy crew cab - 43.8”
    Ford crew cab - 43.6”
    Tundra crew max - 42.3”
    Titan crew cab - 38.5”
I’m assuming that the GMC would be the same as the Chevy . Until the 2019 redesign of Ram and the GM’s Ford did have the most rear legroom from 2016 .

    My input:

Pricing advantage does not go to Ford. Sure "theoretically" you can get one cheaper but option them out similar the Ford costs more. I also found in my area dealers gave me better deals on the Tundra.

Gas mileage definitely goes to Ford. I had a limited F150 ecoboost (entry level one) for a month as a loaner while my BMW was in the shop. I easily got 20-21mpg out of it and driving the same routes and patterns in my Tundra I only get 16-17mpg.

Quality/reliability: Tundra all day long. I should not even go into detail on this but Ford truck reliability is garbage. I dont know a single person that has a Ford without issues. One of my friends even had a lemon law buyback.

I just did the exercise of comparing trucks last summer and chose the Tundra for my own reasons. Having said that, the article didn't even mention the F150s real advantages (to me), hauling and towing capability.

If you go crew cab you get maybe 500 lbs more towing, and 200 lbs payload. Get the wrong configuration and an F150 can tow 7600 lbs.

But then what would we talk about on here? We have mods, build threads, and we welcome new members, but if not for the "Click-Bait" we wouldn't have much to talk about that would get such emotional responses. :D Nothing better than a classic, Ford is better, thread to get your blood going in the morning....

Problem with any truck review is they drive it for a day only. Many reviews dont capture reliability, which Tundra wins hands down, many members on the Ford and Ram forums agree to this.

Buy Ford on a lease or <5 yrs if you want the bells and whistles.

Buy a Tundra if you plan to keep your truck >5 years but don't expect too many bells and whistles.

That's in specific regard to the stupid wax coating that GM uses on their vehicles for some reason, not every aspect of the truck.

I looked at all the half tons when I bought a year ago. They all look pretty nice new. Then I looked at and drove 3-4 yo models. That's the tell.

Valid point. I wasn't clear. I was not disputing what they said, I was pointing out that the article they cited did not say what they were trying to prove. So, in essence, they are shit "journalists" with zero credibility because of lazy practices. Shit journalists may still get somethings correct. Broken clocks are right twice a day too.

I am fully aware of many shortcomings of the Tundra, but I bought it for reliability over all else, so I don't really care what the trendy new age hipster auto reviewers say. lol

If you want to get near Ecoboost quiet, the OEM single muffler + the dirtydeeds resonator works amazingly well. Above 60 mph the engine is almost electric motor quiet.
