35x12.5/18 before getting lift?

I'm needing some insight/guidance. I have a '12 RW that I'm putting wheels/tires on and eventually a 6"lift. I want to go with 35x12.5/18 tires with 18x9 or 10" rims. My question is, will this work on my truck before I get the lift. If so, what is the backspacing/offset I'll need to do it. Unfortunately I can't get everything at one time and I'm gonna need tires soon.

Seems to me that's a pretty wide set up, might have issues with hitting the UCA. Trimming will have to happen at the least.

In theory, yes you can put them on but you wont get a quarter turn out of em. You're gonna hit fenders, bumper, skid plate, etc

You cannot run a 35" tire with your stock truck.

 

If this won't work then how did the guy in the thread that Ardnut pasted in his response get it to work??? Am I missing something there?

 

Looks like that guy did it on RW wheels which I believe are +50 offset. That would help a little on rubbing but still can't imagine it would fit. And he's probably rubbing on his UCAs and doesn't even know it.

 

I'd like to run the 17" RW wheels I have but every 6" lift I read about says basically an 18" is the min diameter. That's what got me going down this road.

 

basically most 6in kits have knuckles that alter wheel fitment(backspace and offset) the material is thicker for rigidity and won't allow a 17 inch wheel to mount on it. That's why you are seeing it call for 18+ sizes with at minimum 5in backspace which is generally a 0 offset give or take a few millimeters. There's a reason why that post is probably showing the wheels straight ahead

 

So I just read that entire thread and that guy did get them in there. But it wasn't a true 35. With it being 34.5" and an AT tire with the +50 offset, I still have some doubt, but I can see it being possible.

The offset of that wheel had everything to do with it. Most lifts have ucas that require certain offsets on wheels. If you plan on running the rock warrior wheel then you might be ok with certain brand tires. Good luck!

As of right now I'm going with the 35x12.5/18 BFG KO2's. And for wheels it's a toss up between the black Method double standard and the Fuel Hostage III in a gun metal grey with black outer ring.

As stated, those bfg's measure out to 34.5", that coupled with offset will be the biggest factor as others have said. If you look at the pictures he has clearance from the body mount, UCa, and even mudflaps. and said he rubs at full lock "a little". Depending on tire and wheel offset, it's obviously possible as you saw in that thread with his picture at full lock. If you take your measurements and know the tire wheel combo you can see for yourself.

With that said, this is coming from the guy running 35x12.50r17 nitto MT's, rock warrior wheels, 1.25" wheel spacers, and a 3/1 kit and will soon be running 37's with a BMC. So I am all for the stuffed look. Either way, take your measurements and you'll figure it out.

 

OP, the Method will come in a 18x9 +18 offset (depending if you can get those as they have released a new fitment) which at that point if you run a 35x12.50x18 KO2 on that with 3in lift whether its a 3/1 or coilovers or 6in; expect to remove the mud flap on the back side of the front fender well, remove the bottom flap on the front bumper, trim/push back the front lower liner, and shave/remove the skid plate if you have one on there. You will need a body chop which is minimal and doesn't affect the structure of the frame. Im running the Method Roost on my truck with a 305/70/18 (35in tire) on Coilovers and did this mod(s) to clear at every angle and any amount of flex. You won't need spacers as the wheels you are referencing have either a 5.75 BS (Method) or the Hostage which is about 5BS depending if you get the dual drilled pattern as sometimes they share a Dodge Ram 1500 bolt patten, 5x5.5 which if that's the case your offset is going to be either -6, 0, +1, or +20. Keep in mind if you choose the Hostage with the lower offset measurements, know that you may have more to trim with the 35 on there. I'd encourage you to consider a UCA to help dial in the alignment so you won't prematurely wear out the tires. You're gonna need that to get some play in the caster adjusting.

You will benefit with the Hostages on the truck if you do the 6in lift because if you want the wheels to peek out a bit from the body line; the wheel should offer different offsets to achieve the look. However depending on which kit you choose, going with Methods will be too close for comfort due to the knuckles.
