So I got the Tech12volts package deal for my nonJBL, with the Hertz speakers, the Kappa amp and the infinity sub. At the same time, I got their dash tweeter setup. The sound was great with a nice high soundstage and incredible detail. There was an issue though, for me and my wife. I have tinnitus and found that the sound was triggering the tinnitus. It wasn’t sharp or sibilant but for me it was too much. Some work with tape and towels revealed it was probably the dash tweeters. For my wife, the sound was too bright also (she has incredible sensitivity to some pitches).

So lots of reading led me to decide to try the Morel ccwr254 in the dash corners. I also grabbed a set of older Hertz fabric dome tweeters to try for the center. My thought was that the Morels, being fullrange speakers, would maybe boost midrange and dampen the highs. With the other tweeters, my thought was maybe the fabric domes wouldn’t be as sharp to my hearing.

I just finished installing them and holy shit! The soundstage isn’t quite as high, but the detail is off the charts. I still really like what James offers, but for me they just aren’t the ticket. I will say that when I did the first install I replaced just the dash at diary and was stunned at what the tweets did to the factory (crappy) sound. Added great detail and lifted the soundstage beautifully.
If anyone is interested in the tweets, I’ll be selling them. And if anyone is interested in the morels, I was able to easily cut the factory tweets out of their metal mounts and reuse the mounts.

Did you disconnect the center dash speaker? How did you wire the Morel ccwr254 using the stock wire?

I put the two tweeters in the center a la Tech12volts since it already has left and right wires for the dual voice coil factory center. For the Morels on the side I clipped the wires and connector off the factory speakers then soldered them to the Morels (with the capacitor provided by Morel inline on the positive lead).

I have a non JBL system. I have added a 5 channel amp, sub, and replaced the door speakers with components. I'm still running the stock center and side dash speakers off the stock HU.
Are you using a stock or aftermarket HU?
If I were to install the Morel using the side dash mounts. I would need to pick up a set of Hertz tweeters and the center dash bracket from Tech12volts?

Thanks. So James's bracket is not compatible with the Hertz tweeters?

Not with the ones I picked up. They are too big. I’ll be pushing the limits of the available space If I don’t surface mount.

You installed a component set (mids and tweets) already, right?

If so, are the tweeters in the sail panels?

I ask cause having a basic 2 way front stage setup is very capable of being amazing. A lot of sound quality builds surprisingly don't use as many speakers as many would think. It's pretty common to not even have speakers in the back seat doors.

Mids, tweeters, good install, and proper tuning will sound amazing. As simple as that setup seems it's actually a very complicated process to get just those 4 speakers to correctly work together.

Im just suggesting that you might not really need all the other speakers. You can always add those speakers later but you might already have all you need. And there are down sides to having a bunch of speakers if you are more into sound quality vs sound output.

    Just some food for thought.
