Cold air intake or no?

Not looking for any, cause I'm not looking for a cai. Just saying it's kinda worthless to tell someone yes or no just from hearsay or buttdyno

You will gain a little HP/TQ if you increase your engines ability to both
inhale and exhale, a tune / re-flash will make the results more noticeable.

I added a dry drop in AFE filter, a BAMuffler cat back and a DAP tune to my 2007.
My butt dyno confirms an increase in performance.

DAP tune: 15-20 hp peak gain, and 20-30 low & mid-range power gain with 91 octane.

BAMuffler cat-back with single stock tail pipe: 3 to 10 hp, no loss in low end torque.

Drop in aFe Magnum FLOW Pro DRY S Air Filter: 5 to 10 hp, but only if the exhaust is freed up.

It would be nice if a company would be honest and show true gains. I'm sure there might be a drop somewhere in the powerband but I'm positive there will be a peak at high RPM. Anywho, I remain interested. I've looked at the Air accelerator and I'm not so sure about it lol...

 

You do usually gain some HP at high end RPM's. Who drives at 4700 to 5000 RPM's all the time?

 

What do you need actual proof for? You got internet butt dynos

 

Lol I don't know about you but when I pass someone on the highway, I go full throttle. What do you care what RPM we drive our trucks?

Ok for 2nd gen and 3rd gen guys. heres the scoop iv tried s&b, k&n, stock with drop in filter and trd intake with sabm. I cant give actually numbers only butt Dyno. Out of all the intakes i had the worst was k&n and than s&b was second worst. They both lost low end torque for me no neck snapping acceleration. Stock with drop in filter with trd accelerator was really good for the money i spent notice alittle midrange and top end. The kicker is i installed the sabm 2 month's later and it made a big difference throughout the rpm especially at 3500rpm where the torque climbs. No its not a supercharger no its not long tubes headers but it did help. And than i installed the trd intake with the sabm because it still used the stock lower portion of the intake. On 2nd gen tundra the trd intake uses a cone style filter which is huge rather than a flat filter like stock and 3rd gen trd intake but anyway with the sabm and trd intake to me it was a big difference than anything i tried. It made startup louder people thought i had a different exhaust. A good upgrade from stock and other aftermarket intakes. I am running bullydog running 93 octane with shorty headers. Now it never downshifts going up a big hill for me it was worth it...

 

Yea doesn't mean you can beat the crap out of it and nothing will happen because its a Toyota just saying...

 

I only recall saying I pass people on the highway with a heavy foot. Nowhere did I mention I beat the crap out of it LOL Stop being so worried for others. I love maintaining everything that I own and put great care in them.
That's just like heading to the drag race and leaving your foot on the gas for 1/4 mile. If the engine is warm, doesn't mean you are beating the crap out of it. LOL You guys just make me laugh so much. Stop jumping to conclusions so quickly just saying....

 

Umm you quoted when i pass someone on the highway I go full throttle but thats not beating the crap out of my truck thats normal right.. Im not worried for others at all. You just have a 2020 tundra and going full throttle or in other words heavy foot in a brand new truck thats smart...

Tell us the proper way to break in the engine while you're at it...

 

When I'm rolling on my 31" summer tires, I am always spinning higher RPMs than most of you... I stay in the POWER range most of the time. It's not economical, and it increases wear & tear, but it's also a lot of fun.

 

Trashing would not be the word. To inform you. Think about it why would anyone go full throttle on a brand new engine now if you had like 15,000 miles on it than thats fine. Its called the break in period is the most important part of the engine life. You have a 2020 tundra pretty sure your still in the break in period. Wait atleast 30 seconds when you start to drive its common sense...

 

Plz show us where you got your information. No need to be angry. I just find your posts pointless as you're not helping anyone out. We're here to hear and see some positive outcomes and here you are lecturing people on how to drive their trucks. LOL

 

You have nothing to worry about i can put 33 on and run 4.88 gears yes it might have alot more revs but wear and tear is minimal. 80% of engine damage is at start up when you start and go fast when cold...

 

Lol im relax not angry.. Research it i know countless people drive new engines and have them fail prematurely because they didnt break the engine in correctly. First at 2000 miles change oil than at 5000 miles than at 10000 running synthetic at 10,000

 

But anyway i tried all of them stock or trd with sabm is better than any of them. S&b lost low end torque but quality was great just like trd but trd intake only gains..

 

The oil interval has nothing to do if you can step hard on it or not. I did some research and they don't recommend any brutal acceleration until 1000 miles. I broke it in properly as I already passed that amount That's from the Owners Manual. Please don't provide any false information to anyone else...15 000km without stepping on it LOL are you kidding me

 

Ok buddy calm down my info is not false and please dont accuse me of false information. Iv been building engines for over 30 years. No matter what engine, change engine oil at the first 2000 miles period.. Now for stepping on it which im guessing you like to step on shit i like to step on it too. I saw 2020 and realise you like to step on it probably more than others which is cool im not telling you how to drive your truck just trying to inform you. To me if i bought a 47,000+ truck i would be safe and wait 15,000 miles to let everything to break in good and let a couple oil changes to filter any metals thats in the engine which is normal for a new engine, so than i can go full throttle when i pass someone. It would be interesting to hook up a 0-20" H20 range vacuum gauge to the intake tube for testing. Would a filter minder be sensitive enough? Probably not.

Just for boredom giggles I am tempted to grab the TRD airflow accelerator rubber horn of doom out of the truck and measure the inside dimensions. It is noticeably smaller than the slash cut factory extension which is flush with the airbox connection throat. The bellmouth should reduce head loss by letting it use the entire tube cross section though. Supposedly a non-curved tube end forces the airflow to make its own bellmouth pattern in a different way. The atmosphere air pressure is from all directions pushing towards the lowest pressure zone at the center, so at the tube inlet edge the air is moving inwards perpendicularly to the overall flow, and it will cause the area near the tube surface to remain stagnant, reducing the effective pipe cross section.

Replacing the 100% functional and efficient Toyota factory OEM cold air intake with any aftermarket item strikes me as a total waste of money, but it's your money and your truck, do as you please.
