So my perfect trailer isn’t made anymore. And it’s not even a quality of a trailer. Haha It was a Carson 17‘ x 7‘ wide toy hauler. You can get them with 2 drop down queen beds as well as 2 dinettes that could sleep two kids or one adult apiece. Bathroom, large refrigerator and air-conditioning as well as a small kitchen. Perfect and all I need! I like the open floor space. And I would probably get it with only one queen bed and two dinette beds. Plus you can get the add a room enclosure for the tailgate. So friends could come along with an air mattress no problem. Shit I could bring my lazy boy and a full BBQ LOL.

I like the versatility of the toyhauler too, even without a toy. Seems like a good way to carry your gear without having to pile it in the truck bed.

Exactly! That’s just what I told my wife. A travel trailer is great and all but the toy hauler does the same thing with a giant living room and a deck. Not to mention that it’s a garage LOL

They do make smaller toy haulers that the Tundra can easily handle. Not everyone needs to have a 40' apartment complex size toy hauler :D

So your 1/2 ton gas truck doesn't tow as good as your old 3/4 ton diesel, thats weird.

    That is just not true.
You can get one made any way you like them and if you go with an aluminum trailer it can be extra light weight too.

I have a 12' Featherlite that is crazy light and there are plenty of Aluminum makers that will custom make anything you can think of.

I also have a custom 7x10' cheap Georgia trailer that was a lot of trailer for the price and they will make whatever you want too.

It all really depends on the size of the toys which is something that you can control as well.

You’re right. I was always looking for a slightly used one. And they have now come few and far between since they discontinued the specific one I was looking for. But I’m sure I could get them to make it for me brand new as well as other makers.

I hear you but mine were all found used or new custom orders that someone backed out on?

I want to be able to pull them with whatever truck I have so I stay short and light from the start if I can and my Sprinter will pull all of mine and still deliver 30mpg most of the time!

They are out there you just have to hunt them down and be able to jump if you find one!

    This thread is hilarious.

Is this 75 mph actual or as read on an uncorrected speedo (~82 mph)
35" tires on a Tundra makes effective ratios closer to a Ford/Chevy equivalent 3.31-3.42 on their six speeds
Overdrive off = S4 = ~3000 rpm, better for the transmission anyways

Heck even at max GVWR the available power is definitely not the limiting factor in the towing equation. The stopping for fuel every 100 minutes does suck though. Or towing up the mountains and any song on the radio lasts longer than a single gallon of gasoline...

Actually you'd be surprised how amazingly capable the Tundra's brake are, at least at reasonable towing speeds. A couple years ago we suffered a total brake failure with 9k back there. If the brake controller hadn't started flashing when it died then we may never had known. We weren't in big hills though.

Had we been going 80 mph with china bombs back there, that story could have ended up on the local news at 6

Funny thing is I have the same set up but mine is a 6" lift I have no issues pulling my camper at all and I even have 22" wheels. I think the OP is just used to other trucks.

It plays the biggest roll once you regear to 5.29 no matter what its going to feel like a different truck for sure. And you will get better gas mileage and less strain on the transmission/engine which will increase the life of the truck. Lol im about to move to vero im from stuart...

Regear all you want, see how well the truck reacts to somebody drifting int your lane going 80 pulling that. This is just stupidity.

I was towing max load two weekends ago...9800lbs of clean fill and dump trailer. Truck had no problem keeping up with traffic. Yeah, it spent a lot of time at high RPM. That's what gas engines do. Don't see what the problem is here...

I'm sure tons just see the commercials and releases and think they can do it on the road. Tundra pulling the shuttle, F150 pulling a train, GM HD pulling a 250k lb yacht.

Although this thread started because somebody thought a gas engine pulls the same way as a diesel. But hey, they asked the question and now they along with a few others know what to expect from both.

Diesel's are just so much nicer to tow with. Definitely not a problem, but it's like comparing putting a tire on with a tire iron or an impact when it comes to towing with those HD diesel's now versus any gas engine. So if someone is used to a diesel, and doesn't do their homework and realize gas engines rev like crazy to get into the power band, of course they're going to think it doesn't tow well, it's just so different to what they're used to.

I think this is when we start to find the first limit to our towing ability. Without heavy duty springs that axle wrap on initial takeoff can make for some pretty good driveshaft vibes if going uphill

Last year I towed my 27’, 7000lbs pound deer lease travel trailer with my ‘16 Taco and it was all it could do. My 2020 Tundra was late on order. It did the job. Towing that rig now with my Tundra is easy. If I’m not careful I’m easily going 75 at 2000-2200 rpm. 3000 to go up the small TX hills on 287. I am on the stock 20s. I gotta agree with everyone who has mentioned that it’s your 35s and the lift.

Additionally, my first job 30 years ago was towing equipment in 20 year old service bed Chevys, gas. Those were dogs.
