    So I have a 2010 Tundra 4.6L V8
I am changing my spark plugs.
I've never done this service before, but I read my service manual and my owners manual and I saught YouTube and it seemed like a task I could tackle.

I've completed 7 of the 8 spark plugs

    1. On the passenger side of the engine, the spark plug closest to my cab seems to be impossible to access. There is a solid metal line of sorts that doesn't seem to want to budge and then all of the wire harnessing.

I did remove my whole air intake thing with the filter and what not, to give me more room....but for the life of me I cannot access that 8th plug.
    Help?
    Tips?

    2. I noticed on the plug just before this one in question, was covered in oil when I removed it. So far, that was the only one. Though I assume that 8th and final plug will also have oil.

I assume this oil is from a valve cover gasket needing replaced.

    Any tips on this?
Is this something the average DIY person could accomplish?

    Thank you, as always.

Might be a long shot but I know on other trucks that last plug was gotten from underneath and reaching up to it .

Not sure if you have tried, but on the 5.7 you basically need a bunch of short 1" extensions and the plug socket. Feed them in 1 at at time until you can put a wrench on it.

Oil on the plugs can be the tube seal and not the valve cover, but you usually replace them both at the same time anyways.

Seriously though, back in the 80's when I worked for an indy auto shop, I could not stand working on imports. Domestics then were easy in comparison. I didn't usually need any real specialized tools. The imports were a pain. It was hard to get to a lot of things without scraping knuckles or the bolts were just simply inaccessible without pulling off other PITA components.

Well, I got all 8 spark plugs

But now my truck runs really bad. My check engine light is on. I think a lot of fuel is coming out my exhaust, by the smell. And my truck thinks it's in 4low even though it isn't.

Not sure what I did wrong

Plug wires all on? Any loose vacuum hoses? CEL? Scan it for a quick answer.

I'd double check all your connectors just to make sure they're seated fully. It almost seems like you might have disconnected something from the air injection valves if the 4.6 is anything like the 4.7.

I'll double check everything....I got really nervous and just shut it down. But I appreciate the thoughts....I'll go over everything with a fine tooth comb.

I don't have an OBD scanner. I should probably get one. Blue driver is supposed to be really good, yea?

Well as it turns out, I had a connecter for one of my spark plugs disconnected.

After that, my truck started up and ran just normal.

My traction control light was still on, check engine light still on, and 4 low blinking. So after a Google search on that its something about an AIP something or other. So I disconnected my battery for 10 minutes. Now it starts up just fine and sounds great. No lights. And my truck shifts through all the 2wd, 4hi, and 4lo just fine.

I'll still probably have my mechanic check it over. But dang....that was scary!

I wouldn't rush to the mechanic. Drive it normally and then see what happens.

Honestly, I had to get very clever with a swiveling ratchet, extensions, and patience. There was a profound amount of cussing, kicking buckets, and taking breaks.

still can not remove the igniter # 8 , because the metal tube that welded-bar blocked the igniter to be lifted out,. I removed 2 bolts #10
that hold the electric- wires- bundles on the firewall, and the bold that hold the water heater tube , could not move that metal tube, no prevailed.
So I put back old # 8 , never got to see the sparkplug. :-( .

There are 2 12mm bolts that hold the tube in question, the back on is a little tricky to see. By removing them and you already removed the harness bolts you can move the tube and the wires around and change that rascal out fairly easy. Hope this helps.
