Anyone regret getting a double-cab?

I thought to myself the dream configuration would a CM with a 6.5’ or 8’ bed. If I needed something today I’d get a 3/4 or 1 ton Ford/GM Crew cab and 8’ bed. But I’d need it bad enough to forgo the reliability issues.

First truck I ever bought was a 2003 Ram Quad Cab with an 8 foot bed and the Cummins. I loved it, but holy crap was it impossible to park. Had it for about 7 years and I only ever used the full 8 feet of that bed once... while also pulling a trailer. That made me realize that having that bed is nice, it isn't a need for my lifestyle.

 

Anyone that has kid car seats that are anything bigger than a booster will need to go CM.

 

That 6.5" bed would make all the difference in the world though.

 

DC's are safer. Throw in a bed extender...even better than both worlds. CM= kid hauler
DC= obviously a truck

 

A bed extender gets you there pretty easily, or I can snag a little utility trailer. Like I said, for my lifestyle a bigger bed just isn't a need. Don't get me wrong, I've made use of the bed in my CM a plenty, but I've only ever not been able to fit the full load in it once, and that was a pallet with my rock sliders on it. Wouldn't have fit in an 8 foot bed either. Some need the bigger beds because they are hauling more often than not, but my Tundra is my DD so it has to be a jack of all trades. As previously stated, you can never add cab space, but you can always pull a trailer.

I have the DC. No issues with room. I have 2 kids, 21 & 17 they have plenty of room and I'm 6'2 and my 17yr old is 6'. I prefer the bed space of the back seat space........anyway I don't site there.
You won't have any issues with the size of the DC.

I have owned Tundras with both. 01 Access Cab, 2010 Rock Warrior DC, and now 18 Platinum CC. All of which were preceded by Tacoma single cab, then access cab Tacoma.

I find myself upgrading the interior room each time. Have never felt like I am limited by the smaller bed, but use and appreciate the larger interior much more often. The only thing I miss about the longer bed was sleeping under the toppers I had on both AC/DC’s.

I have a two place snowmachine trailer when needing to haul anything I don’t want in the bed. But CC bed handles lumber, couches, snowmachines, bikes, quads, etc just fine.

 

You own your own business and are going to haul, but what kind of stuff do you haul and in what quantities? If you are a carpenter and you are hauling 8 ft sheets of plywood or OSB on a regular basis, then neither bed is big enough to haul it with the gate closed. If you are a landscaper, then a mower and various tools will fit in either. If you are a massage therapist then your massage table will fit in either too. Just a few examples.

It really does depend on how often you haul and what you haul. A CM has a 5'6" bed and a DC has a 6'6" bed. Will 12 inches make or break your hauling abilities? Another thing to look at is the payload. If you are hauling heavy stuff, even if you don't need the longer bed, you might want the extra payload that a DC has.

If you're thinking about the DC to save some money, you won't be saving any when you go to sell it. CM are easier to sell and retain value a little better. Not by a lot, but the msrp difference between the two is not a lot either

DC is still huge in the backseat area. You just lose a little bit of leg space.

 

I have a double cab, more than enough room and the bed space is worth it.

Took a drive from DFW to South Padre (over 7 hours) with my 3 teenage boys in the back seats and no one complained. 2 of my 3 boys are over 6 feet tall.

 

I regret NOT buying a dbl cab . :/

 

I have a DC and my 8 year old fits in the back, no problem. Never had a problem with car seats. Even took a road trip last year and my dad, who is 6' 3" rode in the back for a time and his knees didn't touch the seats.

I do wish I had the rear power window the CM has... but i prioritized bed space

 

1500 lbs of double cab enjoyment. Can’t do this with a bed extender. Choose wisely, you’ll have it a long long time!

 

I loved my 6.5 foot bed until i had kids. Car seats are terrible in the DC, once my kids are both out of car seats, I imagine the DC will be ok for them

 

This is a prime example of lifestyle needs. If you do this kind of stuff on the regular, then a DC is a no brainer.

One perk to the CM though, when people say "can you help me move?" you can just say "oh, sorry, my truck only has a tiny bed."

 

Hauling? DC full bed all the way.

CM Bed size is just big enough for Grocery shopping.

 

No regrets. On my 2nd DC by choice not chance. I know what I want when I buy something, especially a truck. I know my needs so I'll purchase accordingly. Anyone regret getting a CrewMax? Silly. Anyone regret getting a gas guzzler? Equally silly...

 

07 DC Long bed, no regerts, lol... only 1. I lived in an extremely hot place and the AC wouldn't really make it to the back with the kids, so I "fixed" the issue, my eldest forever kid is 5'8 and he fits fine behind the driver side.

 

Unless the kiddos are well over 6ft they will be fine in a DC. I could see adults not enjoying a road trip back there, but how many road trips do you take with adults?

Every CM owner brags about the trailer they have, great for moving.

 

Or back up with the camera.

 

I have a trailer for my Quadzilla, but I don't let anybody that is moving know about it. lol. I've moved 4 times in my life, and always moved it all by myself, but I've moved other people over a dozen times. I've met my quota for moving other people's shit.
