@Professional Hand Model that's almost 3x what I paid to have one side done at the local dealer.

Pretty sure they fucked up and know it and don't want to do it again.

So the 2uzfe is regarded as one of the most reliable v8's ever. I dont know a ton about engines but i am very fascinated by them. Could someone explain to me why/how this engine is so good, compared to lets say the ford 5.0, or the chevy 5.3. Or the mz series toyota v6's. I know its hard to top the gm 5.3. But what about the 2uzfe is so great? It looks very complex as it has dual ohc's. Maybe @empty_lord or someone else could help me out.. thanks!

Built like tanks, valve train design can survive on very low oil pressure... lots of things going for it

Actually the 1uz is one of a VERY small list of engines that are legal to use in a plane..

My opinion of Toyota is over engineered / under powered.

In peaks numbers they appear under powered. But Toyota’s broad powerbands make them actually faster than competition. The 268hp 3.5 in my Avalon is way peppier than a ford non turbo 3.5 or a GM 3.6. Peak power is nice but with modern vvti, broad power is more useable

the 4.7 when it came out was much faster than any of the big 3s trucks. Vvti added pep to keep up with the advancing big 3 motors in the mid 2000s

Not saying Toyota makes the fasted ya stuff, but they don’t make the slowest

I meant underpowered for what they are, not versus anyone else.

The 2jz can take a ton of power, the 1uz can take a ton of power(pre-96). Rods ended up being a weak point later on but under stock hp these motors can take so much more than they actually deliver which I think helps in their reliability.
Hypothetically, If they are built for 1000hp but only make 250hp the longevity is increased.

Again, just opinion based so I could be completely wrong.

Oh yea they’re built well (other than the flimsy rods on the 4.7.) but even those are fine till like7 psi

Very true about the 3.5, but that EcoBoost is pretty good.

I wanted to like that motor. Till my
Mothers 3.5 water pump took a shit and dumped coolant into the oil... why the hell did they think an internal pump was a good idea?

Guys, maybe slightly off topic from 1st gen. When I joined there were a few really active people like the Bastrd’s, oside punker,Papa surf, pinay. Where did they all go?no posts for awhile.

Yeah, I've seen the horror stories. Dont forget about the "lifetime fluid" in the ptu going bad in 30k miles and destroying it. Rear turbo failures, timing chain stretch, the WP you mentioned. This motor coulda been awesome, but it was designed by Ford. Maybe they shoulda went to Yamaha again...

Anyone running Toyo Open Country AT's?
Trying to find an all terrain for the Rav4 and that's one of the few made in that size.

Looks like, for the most part, all you ugly people are back to work except for the too cool for school teachers. Now I feel better about going to the grocer without having to wait in line all day with menopausal women that look like this.

I have the AT2 right now, I’ve read good things about them. I feel like they would be to aggressive for A Rav? But maybe you need that kind of action. I’ve also read really good things about the coopers(forgot which model) but great on road and off road characteristics. A guy at work with a 2wd brodozer titan has them, I’ll look what model he has this morning. And tool should go out this morning!

No you're probably right. I'm wanting an all terrain on the milder side but the issue is that there are only 4-5 made in that size, 225/65/17. The Falken Wildpeak is another option.

Stealer manager called this morning and straight up says they will attempt a 3rd repair at no charge, but this will be the last time. They will be:

    1) Removing Old inner retainer ring and axle seal

    2) Replacing with New Toy retainer and axle seal.

    3) Replacing old oil soaked shoes with Toyotas (they earlier replaced my rebuilt OEM $80 Japanese Altroms with NAPA $23 cheapies).

    4) Putting on my paper hub gasket and star adjuster inspection cap of which was forgotten on the last round. :D

    5) Doing everything at no charge.

Moving/planning forward on being present during repair operations just in case I have to tackle this one on my own. They still want $1500 to do it with TOY parts/labor on next go around.

Told them about the magic marker on retainer test. Will re-explain on repair day.
