What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Got new headlights with projectors and corner lights installed today. @SouthPaw did a nice job on these. His communication was awesome too. I've not adjusted them yet and I'll post pictures once I can.





One thing, I couldn't install the top screw on the passenger side as I lost the anchor. If anyone knows that part number I would love you. I zip tied it for now. There is a red anchor that the screw goes into on the driver side. It's MIA on this side.

 

Woohoo! Finally!! Glad they made it safe and sound. Let’s get those bad boys aimed/adjusted for your trip! For that retainer/bolt I used a bigger push body type fastener and it’s held up great.

While you can do this, it isn’t necessary. I go to great lengths to make sure they are sealed gut-n-tight. I personally wouldn’t because silicone can be messy.

 

That's really awesome. When I lived in apartments I was super tempted to throw some nutserts into my tailgate and bolt a vise in so it could be removable, but I never did. Instead o bolted it to a board and used it like that lol. I would lay it in the bed with the spare tire over one end and the vise at the edge of the tailgate.


You're right, the anvil is pretty cumbersome and smart of you to use that low profile one. I love this kind of creativity.

 

I have a vise for the hitch.. works for the rare occasions I need it

 

While I’m sure you have sealed the internals, I’d still run a bead of caulk along the aforementioned areas just to prevent dirt/grime build up that eventually will happen with road force winds, etc.

Silicone can be messy, but not if you tape off the areas around prior. I’d use a squeeze tube style and cut a small tight angle on the tip for ultimate control.

 

I'm going to work on this tonight. I've been using the search feature here to dig up old pictures. It looks like PHM has some old posts on this.

Need to see if I have a screwdriver long enough for the job.

 

Yes, be extremely careful with those adjuster wheels. They are a super soft plastic and strip pretty easy (ask me how I know).

 

I took the corner lights off to reach one adjuster and the other can be reached from underneath with a ratcheting wrench on both

 

Use a long shafted Klein #2 black tip phillips head for perfection adjusting down through the access shaft indicated by arrows above.

This morning I jacked the truck up, and tried all the methods I mentioned in an earlier post. Couldn't get the drums to budge.

Re-tapping threads for jack bolts didn't work. They are too fuckered. Did not want to try drilling out larger, and tapping new threads.


Backed star wheel off, and went to town.
Even with "the maul" (the wood splitter I use when splitting fire wood. Head is rougly 8 lbs.) I was unable to budge drum. Wire wheeled the part of the axle that sticks through the drums. Lubricated. Never moved. Tugged on it pretty hard. N fucking G.

I think I messed up my back. Chiropractor appointment for me.

Also, broke my M12 impact driver. Sad day. That was my first "personal" milwaukee tool.

Contracting this job out now.

Pre-gamed some OEM horn additions locations. Planning on doing an in-line set up. What do the Sparkys think? Will I blow a fuse? I’ll be installing used OEM horns next to each of the original horns. 4 horns total. Used horns are same amps/spec (see pic) as the originals pulled off a parts donor.

How awful/involved was the installation of the newer radio into your truck?
As you know, we're going 'hands free only' on July 1 and I'm exploring options to get bluetooth in my truck (for phone and streaming).

 

Get a relay and seperate fuse. Trigger off the other horns. 4 horns will blow the factory fuse

I don't think cost of contracting job out vs. Driving to Texas is something I'm looking to do math on.

 

It can be plug and play if you use the Toyota adapter harnesses for scions and their microphone (Bluetooth won’t work at all without a mic connected) all in all with the anytime camera I’m 400 into this thing. Can’t beat it. Yes there’s better aftermarket. But this just works

 

One of my good friends is the parts guy at my local Toyota dealership. (He's trying to get me a job there as well.)
If this is a matter of buying a radio and a harness, I reckon that's a lot easier than wiring in all new speaker wires since my truck has the stupid backseat amp.
...unless my stupid backseat amp means my truck needs a different wiring setup. I've never been big into stereo. I just want something I can hook my phone to and stream some music and answer the occasional call.

 

Where is your amp?

 

Under the passenger side back seat. My truck is an 06 Access Cab.

 

Then you may have issues getting this radio to work. If it was the amp under the radio then it wouldn’t be a big deal.

 

FML. This is the only thing about my truck I don't like. That damned amp in the back seat is a day-ruining bastard if ever there was one.
I really don't want to re-wire the whole stereo system (and dismantle 2/3 of the interior) to change the stereo.
Even VW/Audi never did anything this wildly inconvenient. And those pesky Germans love their multiple redundancies. Like triple-redundant PCV/CCV systems...made of plastic.

Wire them in parallel. Otherwise won't get the right voltage across all horns

 

Like such? The passenger side horn has one wire and I plan on using same technique as this driver side picture which has two wires.

Hows those Amps looking. Fuse is 20Amp. Only fear is when the alarm goes off with horns and haz lights flashing at same time.

I got curious why a panel in my 05 GTI says "sound"

 

Got my drive shaft back from the balancing shop. Didn’t fix my vibration issue. There’s literally nothing else to replace on the rear end. Now I’m wondering if it was my cheapo CV axles binding up. 2.5” of lift can’t be terribly good on them.

anyone got any suggestions? I’m about to sell this pile if I can’t get it fixed it’s driving me bananas!
