If you're buying Ford, GM, Ram/Dodge, or Chevy....buy used. If you're buying Toyota or Honda....buy new.

Advice given to me by a friend who owned 6 dealerships in the DMV area before retiring after three decades. Nothing wrong with buying another brand, just resale value on Toyotas and Hondas are much better than the others (along with reliability). I was looking at '16s-18s before I had a chat with him and settled on a '20 the following week.

If its not an inferno TRD OR double cab its out. No limiteds, no pros (tried one, dual exhaust was horrendous and i’ll be towing), no crew cabs, no chrome, no leather, no gangsta’ rims, no lifts (itll have racks and im 5’3”) Just want a stock TRD OR with cloth. Leather makes my hair frizzy anyways

Ive scoured every inch of the internet, every site, the double-digit page catacombs of google, even searched through the ‘red’ listings on every site because they get miscategorized. Its my morning routine over coffee: truck hunt.
If its the correct setup ive already got underside pics. If theres rust, its out. I plan on driving this truck into the ground so i’m holding out for the right one.
Im just complaining loudly.. female, you know how we are..

I was browsing some dealer sites yesterday in a fit of boredom. Base model SR5 Tundras are $50K now.

Quite a few people didn’t understand why I moved so quick to get my 2020 when I found it. I got the TRD Offroad SR5 with cloth seats. Leather is just not my thing in a truck and all the fancy technology. I had the opportunity to ride in a standard SR5 (without TRD package) and thought it rode nice but the Offroad suspension rode much nicer in my opinion. I had a Tacoma TRD Sport and that truck was downright uncomfortable (handled better on highway but was a stiff riding) driving in NYC in comparison to my older Tacoma TRD Offroad. My truck was equipped with the bed liner, the winter mats/door sill protector, and stainless steel steps which I were all things I was going to have to buy anyway. I know I paid for it but time is worth more money and extra time with my kids is paramount. I live in the NYC area and most of the dealerships of all different manufacturers want to pump out the highest equipped models only. It can sometimes be tough finding a low to mid vehicle around here.

The internet is your friend and the dealerships enemy. If you are buying new shop dealers that will do: invoice-rebates-dealer holdback. That is the price that gets me to buy. It will take time and patience but this approach has never failed me.

Yup. I thought I was doing well to get mine for $45k OTD. A GM with all the features I wanted would have been north of $60k.

Is there anybody on here that has paid $50k plus for their Tundra? Or at least that will admit to it? I understand that there's a lot of people that get new vehicles every 3 years or so and they just roll equity so going from a $450 to a $500 payment isn't a big deal. And that's what the dealerships want, "let's talk about the payment on this $58k truck over an 84 month term."

There's no way they can justify the MSRP increase on these trucks, especially the Pro. I struggled paying $42k for my pro back in 2015 no friggin way I'd pay $50k for it.

i think you would be hard pressed to buy a brand new PRO for even 50 or less. All that I see are 53-55 and they wont budge.

Anyone who believes the figure Edmunds gives you for "dealer cost" is actually what the dealer paid, I've got some beachfront property in Kansas I would like to sell you.

I bought my 2019 CM SR5 TSS two months ago “used” on the lot with 7k miles and it was $10k less than what they have on the sticker for the new ones. Just got to wait for a deal.

Held out for six months and finally found my unicorn truck in KY yesterday. Was for sale about 6 hours, called, paid, flying out Friday and driving her home. Exact config, year, and color I wanted with only 10k miles.. Saved about $10k over buying new and got the color I obsess over that they don't make anymore.2018TRD.jpg

I’ve also noticed that the sr5 with 4x4 is going for almost 50k which is absolutely ridiculous too imo. Sometimes you can definitely get a used tundra cheaper. However, when I bought mine in 2018 that wasn’t the case

What are your thoughts on getting a 2019 Platinum 4WD, upstate NY area? They are giving a price of 47,900? Would you get a 2019? Think the deals will be better going forward?

This. Also the prices on used Tacomas are atrocious. That's why I ultimately landed in the Tundra because a used Taco is basically the same price as a new one and a new Taco is basically a few thousand off a Tundra.

I agree that the prices of new Tundras/Tacomas are silly high given that they are old designs but with some up-to-date electronic aids. However there is a factory cash rebate of $2000 on 2020 Tundras going on now that ends on 6/1/2020 that softens the sting.

A dealer here in the SF Bay Area advertises dealer invoice price minus $2000 plus tax and title, which seems reasonable.

I'm thinking of going for a new 2020 Tundra Limited (or SR5 with options) CM. It will be my first truck that I would like to use for family camping trips and carrying dirt bikes. I did consider the Ford F-150, but I'd rather have the peace of mind of the standard v8 on the Tundra + the predicted reliability.

    True dat.

Bought my Tundra SR5 for $45k CAD
Sierra Elevation specced the way I like it: $65k
Silverado RST specced the way I like it: between $55 and 60k, depending on sales that month
Cheapest Silverado I could have lived with but without everything I wanted: ~$50k
F-150 XLT specced the way I like it: $55k

But people around here still insist the Tundra is more expensive.
