Oof, a correlative study that suggests noise causes heart disease. Oh well, I guess we can lump noise in with, well, everything else since basically everything kills us now days lol.

Since Im bored and not working today, I ran some SPL tests on a quick drive.

Heres the start up SPL with no mufflers: 64db
    IMG_1449.jpg

Heres peak noise under full accel: 82db (drone on the uphill section was 74-76db)

    IMG_1451.jpg

Now, heres the stock speakers with a Kenwood headunit, playing classical at about 40% volume: 84db

    IMG_1450.jpg

So the numbers might not be exact as I suspect theyre a bit low on the meter, but it gives perspective to how loud the exhaust is in the truck. Basically not as loud as a violin crescendo at <1/2 volume.

Cruising SPL was about 66db. It's like stock while cruising. Keith does good work.

I went with 10” as I tow distances. Loud enough for me

I dont enjoy drone. My Tacoma with only a muffler replaced with a 60 series flowmaster had more drone. Then there were my earlier days with my S2000, I sure I lost some hearing there. The Tundra does drone, at least audibly, but its not bad. My stereo can completely cover the sound of it at less that 1/3 volume (see my previous post).

Adding the resonator completely transforms the exhaust FYI. I just posted a write up the other day about my impressions.

The raw aggressive sound the system makes without the resonator is intoxicating for a while, but life is so much better with the resonator installed. Performance is the same with or without the resonator, but the whole experience is more refined and civilized with.

I towed a few thousand pound trailer a couple hundred miles in and out of the city the other day. I recently installed an 8” budget without the resonator. I thought it sounded better in tow haul with a load. No complaints, very satisfied.

I don't tow or haul much weight.

I ran a custom 7 (with rez) for 3 years, same sound as an 8.
It was a tad loud and a little raspy for this old man.
Especially coming home from work a 3AM at the time.
Neighbors never complained, but it was a little loud in my head.

Had Keith swap it for a 10 (kept the rez) last year and love it.
If I bought a new Tundra, I might opt for a 12, but probably another 10..

    @Speedfreak675
If you run alone 99% of the time and want some noise and a little rasp, go for an 8.
If you have the wife and kids during the week and on weekends, go for a 10.
    12 if you're hauling a trailer...
As others stated, run it without the rez for a week or 2 and see what you think.
But that Helmholtz kills drone, and I hate drone.

I can tell you for a fact after having Keith's 10" Stainless system for several years; there's no way you'll mistake this exhaust for stock-sounding. Idling, cruising and especially under full throttle!I had a Corsa system for a while and liked the tips, so I had that style welded-in.0424191331[3041].jpg

It seems like more people than I thought have the 10”. I guess I should have added that option on the poll.

10 here also....perfect balance. Still a little loud towing but not annoying. I have the resonator installed also

I went with the 10" system. I don't want my truck to be obnoxious, but I wanted to be able to make it growl a bit if I stomped on the pedal. I don't have the resonator installed, but I do have it lying around.

I've had the 8 for over 2 yrs now. Absolutely love it. There was a small time when I did not but that was my fault I decided to cut the tail pipe for more clearance right after the axle so it caused some drone. But Keith being the guy he is some how he found out that people that were cutting the tail pipe were getting more drone so he sent out longer helmholtz resonator and that made it go away. Thanks to Keith now I enjoy the exhaust again.

I indicated 10" on your poll. But actually, I got a 12" and yes, I love it. And have had comments from strangers on how good it sounds.

Currently have the 8" and like it, but I want long tubes now. I will be shooting for the about the same volume level. Maybe a smidge louder. It is a little on the quiet side for my liking. I'm thinking something equivalent to a 7" would be perfect.

Voted! Love the sound of my 8 with resonator, but
    ....
anyone just weld these up to factory though? Developing exhaust leaks at both flanges again. First and second times were each just rusting out factory bolts, but now I’ve got good stainless hardware in there torqued to specs and I can pick up the airflow coming out at the flange. Not as obnoxious yet, but worse after warmed up. Haven’t even had the exhaust on a year at this point.

not sure what else to do, and if welding were a skill in my arsenal I’d do that, but really don’t want to spend the money for something that shouldn’t have this issue

pm’d @dirtydeeds couple weeks ago, no reply. I know he leaves his number, but vm is always full and phone calls don’t work well for me to be available in my profession so I almost always miss return calls
