Washed, clayed, washed again. Tomorrow morning hitting it with the compound and waxing it for the first time in maybe 10 years.

I did the clay at night on the roof just to see what happens, it feels a lit smoother. Not as smooth as the rest but we'll see if there is any clear left tomorrow.

By the way, I went through 4 beers on this and when I was spraying the wheels with the iron remover the squirter busted so I only cleaned 1.2 wheels. Fawk me, oh well.

I’m glad @Rex Kramer talked me out of this shield removal and Bubble test yesterday. :D

My flanges behind the cats are slightly gnarly on certain edges, but for the most part solid. I’ve used 2 part epoxy to fill and that lasts a 4-5 months. Last round of jack leg repair 8months ago I threw on some Fuze caulk and its holding, but looks to fail soon.

My mind has been working on ways to seal up the flanges without replacing everything as 99% looks good!

I’ll draw up a repair which you look used to performing in the plumbcrack industry. :D

Still need to figure out the patch material, but was thinking some of that heat shield wrap cloth. Any welder guys here think these flanges can be welded/beaded for a permanent repair?

@FirstGenVol I tried to beat the sun and I did, although I skipped the roof entirely. The roof is pretty failed and the hood is on its way. Front bumper is essentially satin black at this point but the compound removed so much contamination and the wax gave it more pride. I did what I could with a "no wax in 10 years" paint job, came out okay I think.
    20200517_095649.jpg
Dont mind the windows and wheels, this isn't a serious detail job but a "can my paint be saved" job.

Wow. Nice job Luis. Seriously. I've noticed your bumper before and it looks substantially better. It actually matches the body now.

Bummer about the roof and hood. At least it's not every panel though.

Thanks man, I wouldn't have bothered if you didn't point out how bad it was.

The hood is doing this sort of thing, just super pitted, tried to get a pic of it but kinda hard to see. It does shine though.

The front of the truck has chips all over anyhow, it's a truck so I don't mind much. Just contemplating now on if I bed liner my roof or go a different direction with paint.

Today I am planning on pulling rear drums apart to investigate what internals need to be replaced.

    Any advice from the pros?

My only advice is to have a few cans of brake cleaner on hand. You'll be able to see everything better after cleaning them up.

Maybe I was over spraying, but I easily used one can on each side when I did my rear discs. Next time I can pick up in bulk I will

    .

    Sounds like a good plan.

    On topic.
    Here's where I'm at.

It has apparently been so long since the drums have been touched that the drum itself is seized. I've tried to watch a few videos, and from the pixelated mess I was looking at, I could see the techs hitting the drum with a non-marr hammer a few times, and it popped right off.

That didn't work for me. Seems like she is stuck good.

Have you tried backing off/out the star wheel adjuster? Get the pads to come off the drum. After that, I think even the rear drums have the threaded bolt hole, to send two bolts in slowly and it presses against the axel flange and pushes the drum off

I haven't tried the star wheel yet. Looks like whoever serviced these last (most likely pops) used the wrong size bolt in the jack bolt holes. (Looks like standard into metric. I see where you're talking about but someone has fuckered up the threads, and its very rusty. Looks like what should have been a M6 or M8 bolt, but is now just another hole with partial shitty threads.)

    Update:
Adjusted star wheel. I went the wrong way the first time, and essentially engaged the parking brake. Got in the cab, and actually engaged the parking brake to release the tension. Turned the star wheel the other way, and backed the pads/shoes off until my screw driver broke. Tried the ole beat, and tug. No dice.

    Jack bolt method:
I found two bolts that fit in the fuckered threads on jack bolt holes. Ran them in until I could no longer turn by hand.

Put a wrench on one at a time, and turned until I felt them bottom out on the axle flange. Gave each of them one final turn.

One snapped off clean. The other stripped the threads out.

Already removed the snapped bolt using extractors.

    So I'm still fighting.

Once I get this fucking drum off I will drill out the old jack bolt holes to a bigger size, and re-thread them (if they are good by then.)

You need a bigger hammer. Also new everything because you're going to fuck them up getting them off.

    5lb sledge should do it.

Every time I look at peoples location, I cringe and feel bad when I see they are in rusty randy-ville. I’m sooo thankful I live in the popcorn fart corner of the country. You guys are troopers to work on trucks that have seen nasty winter roads

Okay, on that note. I'm going to put everything back together, and start ordering parts. This is happening one way or another.

Anyone have a general list of what I will need? I've seen videos, and pictures but nothing really makes sense to me until I put my hands on it. Or someone explains in depth...

@FrenchToasty small price to pay, friend.

OR would it be worth my time to do the sequioa disc brake conversion?

Drums, shoes, hardware kit, and bell cranks.

I believe the Powerstop kits come with everything besides the bell cranks. The Dorman bell cranks are working well on mine.

Dorman cranks are supposed to be here tomorrow lol. I was wanting to take everything off today to loosen everything up, and see if I would need anything else.

Powerstop kit ordered through who? Big Gurll?

Looks like new units the whole way around on the rear.

Also, I fucked up one stud. Mishandled the hammer. I think i can file out the ding for temporary fix.

Big gurl or Summit Racing both ship pretty quick or Napa if you don't want to wait for everything.

A rethreading die would be my choice to fix the threads.
