You’re almost certainly going to have alignment issues eventually due to this. Not knowing the impact to the frame, it’s hard to say extensively what you’re looking at. However, don’t let the kid’s old man pay for it. Go through insurance. Someone else mentioned this: the old man will be surprised when it’s a lot more than what he anticipates. Good luck!

I’m going to pile on the insurance wagon... you have insurance for a reason. There’s a reason they guy doesn’t want to go through insurance - could be a lot of things: maybe his son wasn’t on the policy, maybe he doesn’t want it to skyrocket... whatever the reason it’s not your problem. I think he’s trying to hide something...

If he doesn’t your policy should have uninsured coverage. I had to make a claim when some a$$hole side swiped me in a parking lot.

He will think twice when he sees how much the repairs will come to. Just out of curiosity....was that the car he hit you with in the other picture?

Body work is expensive. Are the wheels scuffed to the point of being damaged? Or the rims? Are the doors still in alignment and working? Add in possible suspension damage and I'm curious why Dad wants to pay in cash. That just seems suspect...like he wants to delay this long enough to claim the damage wasn't from his son. Document the hell out of everything, pictures, your neighbors video, witnesses, etc.

As other's have mentioned, you have a diminish value claim as well because your truck is so new. I don't know where/how vehicles are tagged as damaged/repaired for companies like Car Fax, but it could be the repair shop. I got hit when my Explorer was 6 months old and got a check for about 10% of the purchase price (if I remember correctly). My cousin got hit in his new car a year later and he lawyer'd up and got closer to 15%. There are "ambulance chaser" lawyers that just chase diminished value claims for a % of the return. Figure out if any repairs will be reported so you don't get hit with that value drop.

I'm on the CYA train with this one. There is too much damage in the pics to not involve an insurance company. If it just scuffed the bumper or wheel, sure. You dent the body and hit it that hard, LEMME GET THAT INSURANCE INFO BRO.

Do Not Do That! Pretty much never ever works out. I'd file a report asap and let my insurance know. Not your fault. Why put yourself at a disadvantage?

Ok so if I hit you I’d say let me just pay you... if you hit me we’re going through police and insurance.
If you wanna be on the losing end here let him pay you outta pocket because if he doesn’t agree to how much it costs the body shop to do the work right, he’s not gonna pay you anything or he may hit a personal limit and be done.
it only hurts you to not go through insurance. Only way I’d do the you pay me outta pocket thing is if you’re close personal friends you trust with your life. And even then it could get dicey or ruin a relationship. So still go through insurance and let them fight it out if necessary.

That's really sucky, I hate getting in accidents. I would absolutely, without a second thought, go through insurance. Don't get screwed, this is never a good option for the person that's not at fault. You can only lose in this situation. Sorry about your truck but REPORT THIS TO YOUR INSURANCE

Collisions are no fun for anyone, but I think that karma runs both ways. When I was 16, I was at a stop sign and moved forward but the early rising sun blinded me. Next thing I know, the front end of my 81 Rabbit PU was gone. I put a small dent in the other drivers Chevy Square body. He was super cool, he didn't yell at me. Actually I think he kept me from having a nervous breakdown. I ended up driving a tractor for three months to pay off my body shop debt. A few years later, I was at a stop sign, and the driver in front of me backed into my 77 Celica. He just put a dent in the grill, I found one at a junk yard and met with him a couple of weeks later. Turns out the guy had a few DUI's and this accident would have cost him his license. I told him $100 would cover it. He was surprised that I didn't take advantage of him. I told him, I would rather have him be able to drive to work than lose his job because he couldn't make the drive.
Nowadays, with people lawyering up to make a quick buck, I would go through the insurance no matter what. There is probably unforeseen damage that will show up once your truck put up on a frame jig. The kid will be okay, he might pay more attention to his surroundings, and in the end a good lesson that will build character.

So just a small update , I had to take the highway to get to the reporting station and it tracks straight and true ( I lifted my hands off the wheel to check for any pulling or wondering ) no noises and road the same as always . Since the police took pictures of it and took my info they will notify my insurance company so when I call them they should have the info already .

So just an update , I took the truck into the body shop and they already knew about it . They told me the guy came in and explained it to them and that he was paying for it . Ended up costing $1,500 with tax , they did have to replace the rear wheel where the other cars fender caught it .
Anyway it’s all taken care of .A5A4F1DE-496D-46AA-8A5D-DDB826330D49.jpg141FB19F-C1C3-4BFC-B084-9A9D5781F0D2.jpg89EDF911-D9CE-4B21-BA06-CB36FAD9D4CB.jpg

My brother fell for that once. He parked at a parts supplier and a guy with his hood open drove into him. They exchanged info and they begged not to go through with a police report and insurance.

Things didnt work out and they called insurance on him saying that he was at fault and suddenly they had a witness. I'll never go that route after his experience. Worst of all he was driving our mom's car to pick up a part for his car.

I would be worried if it pushed my truck up a curb sideways.

I was , I had my insurance company book the appointment at the auto body shop and I had filed a police report . It was the body shop that told me the other guy was paying for it in full . I kept the claim open until after the bill was paid .

That’s great he paid for the repairs. Unfortunately you have waived your right to depreciated value on the claim as well as if there’s a problem related to the accident in the future. I think that kid lucked out based on you deciding to settle out of insurance but you took a loss I would have never taken. Hoping things work out in the future!
